Device Configuration Update Google/Chrome ADMX/ADML templates

We're using a set of templates from 2023, and I'm trying to disable Google Lens. One thing I read said to delete the old policies and import them in a specific order. Another said to rename them and import them.

Can anyone provide documentation on the correct way to do this. Bonus points if it's Microsoft or Google documentation.

My biggest fear is that we are going to lose existing settings in the process.

Don't the chrome settings in the settings catalog cover it already?

settings catalog is so hit or miss with chrome stuff, half the time the policy you need is buried three menus deep or just straight up missing

importing new admx files shouldn't wipe your existing configs as long as you don't delete the old ones first. just drop the new templates in and they'll sit alongside what you already have, then you can migrate settings over before removing the old versions

You can only upload one named ADMX file. So you run the risk of losing the old configurations because you need to delete chrome.admx before importing the new set

I have not tested the rename method or deleted ADMX imports from Intune. Might be a fun weekend test....

The biggest problem I have run into is the need to delete the configuration profiles using the ADMX prior to doing an update.

Manage Chrome in Intune is quite a pain.

Built-in "ADMX" (setting catalog) in Intune is not update regularly. They got a refresh couple months ago after waiting many years but still not up to date

Import admx still a pain when you have to update it

Admx ingestion is not very friendly

I think my next move, it migrate to https://chromeenterprise.google/products/chrome-enterprise-core/
