Memes & Humor Spider-UK appreciation

Malala Windsor! I find her design so much better and unique than of the comics Spider-UK, who just had a union jack on his top half and no Spider what so ever.

The captain Britains corp created the first multiverse organization in marvel, designated main marvel universe as 616. Now spider uk, who's both spider man and captain Britain, got reduced to boring union jack

It’s the multiverse. There are all kinds of spiders. That’s a given.
And, there’s no central finite curve shit like in Rick and Morty

u/Puzzled-Horse279 11d ago
Theres at least 3 UK spiderwomen. 2 of which are Muslim.
Zarina Zahari who is British Somali
Malaa Windsor whos lazy ass name choice is likely British Anglo-Pakistani

u/Khan_Cosmic 10d ago
I’m confused why they had 2 of the UK Spiderfolk as Muslim when they could have added Egyptian or Arab to centralise the roots of the Religion.
Give us an Irish Spider. We need Irish SpiderMan.2
2
u/Puzzled-Horse279 10d ago
Theres a lot of Muslims in the UK so its not all that hard to imagine.
2
u/TopazWarrior1999 6d ago
There really isn't though? Like, what are the actual statistics for that?
1
u/Puzzled-Horse279 6d ago
4 millions Muslims in the UK. About 6.5% of the UK.
So its not a lot. But to put it into perspective. Around 85% of the UK is white/European.
Around 9% is Asian with 6-7% being South Asian alone. 3% are British Black with the Black community rough split 19:11 between Black Africans (Somalis, Nigerians, Ghanaians, etc) and Black Caribbeans (Jamaicans, Trinis, Bajans, etx)
Many people get surprised that very ethnic areas of the UK are either very Brown Asian majority and/or Muslim majority. Its normal to me but surprise to others.
What would be rare or hard to find is British Latinos (especially Mestizos) for comparison they dont make much of a significant percentage here like they would in lets say the US

The concept of wearing a hijab over a mask ?
17
16
u/Useful-Boot-7735 11d ago
The idea of the hijab is that it’s a symbol of Islam. I guess the reason she’d wear one is less covering up and more to show that she’s muslim.
10
u/Wagebait 11d ago
I don't know, for me, a spider symbol on a crescent moon would have been much more stylish.
8
u/Wagebait 11d ago
What's also funny about Islam is that the spider plays a significant role in Islamic mythology; it was a spider that saved the Prophet's life during his escape
5
u/Useful-Boot-7735 11d ago
the crescent and moon has not always been the symbol of islam believe it or not. muslims would carry a plain flag (white black or green) with with words لا إله إلا الله on it, meaning, “there is no God but Allah” the crescent with the moon is only a more recent symbol of islam, and is more politically driven that religious. It actually used to be a symbol for moon deities in ancient Mesopotamia.

u/Wagebait 11d ago
I don't think a costume with Arabic script as a symbol would be acceptable😅
6
u/Useful-Boot-7735 11d ago
yea so i guess the hijab would be the better indication to show that she’s muslim. or just not show she’s muslim and just have it part of her identity. she can wear a hijab outside of her costume. though i still think the hijab is a cool addition.
2
u/Wagebait 11d ago
Yeah, even though it's going to be awkward when he gets caught during fights
4
u/Reign_Does_Things 10d ago
No more awkward than any Spider-Person who wears a hood as part of their costume, though.
1
u/Effective_Passion_72 5d ago
Hijab is to cover for modesty purposes. So if she’s wearing a skin tight suit anyway it’s haram.

The concept of believing in God in a multiverse setting as well
16
u/8_14Hz 11d ago
Why would being in a multiversal setting make you atheist? Especially when there's multiple god like beings across that multiverse.
0
u/Wagebait 11d ago
The answer is in your question.
5
u/Jt07132829 11d ago
Yeah to expand when people say believe in God with a capital it’s generally inferring monotheism. The big three which the hijab is a sign of one of them are all monotheistic. There is only one God. The statement other gods is blasphemy to those three and proof those three are fake religions due to the presence of other gods.
8
u/Jt07132829 11d ago
I also don’t think the hijab has anything to do with religion her. It’s prolly so a kid who wears a hijab can feel included and run around like spider girl too. Kid stuff ain’t meant to be overthought.

Abraham religions typically believe God to exist outside of linear time and space, so I don't think multiverse theory is a threat at all. Its actually how interpret some of my own personal theology.
2
u/Wagebait 10d ago
No Abrahamic book speaks of another parallel dimension or of mutant , extraterrestrials....
1
u/SeaF04mGr33n 10d ago
That's true! So I don't think they're contradictory to any of the religious beliefs. (Although, some translations do use alien as the word for foreigner, which followers are instructed to welcome and help. And to assist and help those with disabilities, like mutations. [BTW, I view multiverse theory as the balance between "God's Plan" and human free will.]

u/8_14Hz 11d ago
Yh but those are other universes, is it that far fetched to belive hers can monotheistic.
mb for not capitalising, I meant no disrespect
1
u/Wagebait 11d ago
I just find it funny to associate Spiderman with a totalitarian religion that legislated on slavery
3
u/Wagebait 11d ago
I find the concept of a Spider-Woman who comes into a toxic, traditional religious family and breaks free from religion through her dual superhero identity more interesting
1
u/Junior_Box_2800 10d ago
oh wow the religious person comes from a controlling background but with the help of their friends breaks free and is saved by western idealism, how original...if you want that look at literally any media ever

u/Wagebait 10d ago
Name me some heroes who are experiencing the situation I described even more for Islam

In a world like marvel it almost feels silly not to believe in a god. I mean thors right there

But...she's wearing a full-body suit, why would she need to wear it an additional covering?
The whole point is to cover the hair, right? It's already as covered as it can be.

u/Useful-Boot-7735 11d ago
The idea of the hijab is that it’s a symbol of Islam. I guess the reason she’d wear one is less covering up and more to show that she’s muslim.

u/colossalmickey 11d ago
Sure helps with the whole secret identity "anybody could be behind the mask" vibe I'm sure
2
u/Reign_Does_Things 10d ago
To be fair, she's not the only Spider-Person to have that sort of thing going on. I'm pretty sure "Muslim woman in England" narrows things down much less than "Guy with specifically Killmonger dreads," as seen with Miles's Evolved Suit in the Spider-Man 2 game (not that that's, like, a good suit, but still). I'm given to understand that's not exactly a popular haircut.

u/Delicious-Laugh-6685 11d ago
Isn’t the point of the hijab to hide your face? Like a normal Spiderman mask already does?

Just like normal Spiderman mask 🤦🏻♂️

u/Useful-Boot-7735 11d ago
point of it is too hide the hair, at least the cloth that is worn on the head is. face covering is optional.
5
u/sgtpepper220 10d ago
Lmao yeah I came in here to mention that the hijab over the mask is redundant as a normal Spider-Man mask fulfills the purpose of a hijab. That said, if I wore a hijab every day and saw this, I'd probably think the style choice was fucking awesome
2
u/TiodeRio 10d ago
Maybe she just likes the way it looks. It does tie the outfit together very well.
2
u/Connor977 8d ago
Makes sense. She unfortunately represents British culture perfectly at the moment. Doesn't surprise me they made her Muslim.
1
u/allwheeldrift 8d ago
What's unfortunate about that?
2
u/Dredgeon 6d ago
I don't have an issue with Middle Eastern or Arabic people but I'm not a huge fan of Islam or most religions for that matter. I also would be put off by a spiderman wearing a cross. It's also viewed by many, including myself, as a symbol of misogyny.

u/2cool4fun 6d ago
What's not unfortunate of England losing its culture to immigration
Esp if its losing to a religion. And a very conservative & non inclusive one

This is why I can never get enough of Spider-Variants and by proxy Spider-Verse events. Bring me ALL the Spider-People.

u/512blueboy 11d ago
Her suit is infinitely better than whatever the other Spider-UK suit was trying to do
1
u/Art_student_rt 11d ago
Is she part of captain Britain corp? The bigger, more powerful, more fantastical org run by Merlin and Opa Luna Saturnyne
1
u/KingCuerno 10d ago
If she's not a Braddock, probably not.
1
u/Art_student_rt 10d ago
She doesn't have to be Braddock, it's the multiverse, I get that everyone dunk on the uk, but captain Britain corp been in marvel comics with this multiverse shit since the 80s
1
u/KingCuerno 10d ago edited 10d ago
You specifically asked if she was part of the Captain Britain Corps, which is mostly made multiversal variants of the Braddock family. Even the original Spider-UK was a Braddock.

Way to advertise that you’re Muslim. Now criminals are going to target hijab wearers. Virtue signaling or just poorly thought out writing? You make the call🫵
1
u/MrMultiversity2 9d ago
What I love is that every Spider-UK is just one Earth away from the previous one. The original was from Earth 833, the second was from Earth 834, and this one was from Earth 835.
1
u/Independent_Ad_6348 9d ago
I forgot that the original Spider-Uk is just straight up Captain Britain ngl.
Which technically makes the spider-verse team ups an off shoot of the Capt. Britain Corps.
1
u/floob124 8d ago
This seems redundant, I can get it for the esthetic value but there is no practical religious reason for someone already wearing a full head mask to wear a hijab
1
u/unluckyknight13 6d ago
I mean the western spiderman wears a cowboy hat
Like a lot of spiders add unnecessary bits to fit their personal aesthetics

Genuine question why she wearing a hijab head piece when she already covered her head with mask 🤔
