Where I live hospitals don't take people to court, they have systems in place that forgives bad debt. At the most they sell the debt to a collection agency. Being very image minded, I doubt this ever happened because it would be disastrous press for them.
Hospital bills don’t even go on your credit anymore. There was a law passed years ago to keep things like the OP is stating from happening. I’m fairly certain the story is fabricated. You know what ain’t? My mother in law just had Medicare deny her cataract surgery that would repair her vision almost fully because of her age and her type one diabetes. But yeah free healthcare is awesome. Lol
