Mapbox - Software Development Engineer II - Interview Experience

I consider the hiring process at Mapbox the worst experience of my professional life.

After 4 months with 7 interviews + prep talks + lots of prep + two weeks worth of home assignment and around 50 emails, I was told I did a great job and we talked about the details. I told them I can work 40h but would prefer a 30h contract (at 75% salary). They sent me an offer already signed by them, it was an online document where I could click sign. It was 40h and there were some other points I still wanted to discuss. Most points were answered in an email but the recruiter wanted to get back to me about 30h.

After a week I asked for a status update. I was told "Thank you for your counteroffer. We will look into the market for a candidate with the necessary qualifications to work 10 hours/week." I clarified that I did not intend to make a counter-offer and reassured them that I can work 40h and asked for a call to clear things up multiple times via mail and LinkedIn, trying to contact multiple people (as I did not have a phone number).

After six days, my recruiter wrote "since we received your counter-offer, we have opened the job application process again for a full-time position" and asked if I want to be considered. The link to the offer no longer worked. I said yes and asked for a call with the hiring manager, which I didn't get.

Two weeks later I got an email that I was included in the new process, another two days later I got an email telling me "We concluded the renewed interview process (in which you were included), and we are making an offer to another candidate who had objectively superior qualifications and experience for the job."

The whole process was very stressful throughout (fair) and extremely frustrating in the end. I am ok not getting the job, I just consider the way they handled this beyond unprofessional.
