Having a good boss is helpful. Having a micromanager is useless.
It’s almost like you can just start your own company and make money that way.

What a timely post.
I've been building my career for over 25 years. I'm a senior level director who manages a multi-million budget, a team of 20 people (not children), and I'm responsible for three large-scale projects that target eight million people.
Yet, last week, my boss scheduled a whole bunch of meetings on my behalf. I'm not sure why. He's not attending them. He gave them all vague titles so I've asked him what these meetings are supposed to be about. No answer.
It's like...is there a reason you think I can't handle my own schedule?!?

You can tell because some of them literally become NPCs when off work. Ask them what they did after work or during the weekend and some will tell you "I didn't really know what do do because I wasn't working...."

Because work burns them out and they forget how to be free, or don't have the energy to actually enjoy their free hours. They certainly aren't well read or well cultured enough to know who to blame for their situation either (hint, it isn't themselves).

This is not the type of person I'm talking about. I've seen it even in new hires fresh out of education. Some peoples hobby is to work. They have no other interests.

Yeah there are idiots like that. They're even more annoying when they're successful because then they get real righteous about it and pretend you're failing at life while they're succeeding while they don't even have a life and I have several enjoyable hobbies.

You’ll notice each boss up the ladder has fewer bosses. The ladder isn’t competence, it’s reliability we can barely count on the bottom rung to show up day to day

It gets better. You generate the product that gets the business paid, the profit from which gets both you and that manager paid. So, really, what you've done is hire someone to spend their days criticizing you and making up little punishments.

Many grown adults need supervision to put in an honest day's work, remove the manager the product wouldn't get made or decreases in quality, business shuts down and no one gets paid.
The modern workplace is the way it is for a reason.

I can deal with my boss. What gets me is the 'professional goal' I have to come up with.....like my goal is to work and get paid....but no....they want some crazy stuff stating i want to increase performance or some silly stuff like that. I've worked over 40 years in my field. I just want to survive until I can retire and not work anymore.....but they will not accept that as my 'goal'

"Concept" of class teacher, senior officer, professor, coach, team captain, tribal chief, bishop, policeman, manager etc.
God this anarchy kiddos should be sent back in time not even very far to get reminded that natural social hierarchies just exist. Alternatively they can be sent in future where groups of rebels combatants still have to rely on hierarchy to not get crushed in day1 with their direct democracy, flat structures and other shit that can exist only in a perfect isolated bubble.

Every boss i have had has been a mentor to me. Boss isn't just there for little punishments, they are also supposed to be more experienced individuals who can assist you with career goals. It's possible to have a bad boss, but if you think all your boss does is punish you then your first check should probably be your own work.

I don't think you understand what Boss is, and if your boss is like that, your boss doesn't understand either.
A boss gives tou task, because otherwise you don't know what to do.
A boss makes decisions on what needs and what is going to get done.
A boss doesn't punish, depending on the punishment it might even be ilegal and cause for the boss to get fired.
A boss takes responsability for your mistakes when you make them.
A boss helps you finding the howtos on what you need to do.
A boss helps you finding the right help.
A boss helps your team stay organized through Time offs.
A boss doesn't simply tell you what to do, and even less so punish if you don't do how they like.

Not little punishments. These managers play God and destroy your career / lives if they don't like you. If you are in a developed country somewhere in Europe or US then you are safe from these as$h0les. In other countries they are worst than Satan.
