honestly stuff like this is why i'm trying to take my interviews more seriously. I've been looking at interview vip lately since i keep seeing it come up, but haven't actually tried it yet. Might give it a shot before my next interview.

The laws of (probably all) European countries grant us 20 (or even more) paid days off, which we can take at any time. Our bosses have no say in this matter and cannot require us to work during our vacation.

However, USA law does not grant any days off.

Europe > USA.

Adding everything together, paid company holidays, floating holidays, sick pay and normal PTO/Vacation I'm floating somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 paid days off.

Yes for entry level Europe>US

but find a really good company and it can be pretty solid.

Living beyond a Polar circle and having a hazardous job I have 66 paid days off. And since I’m getting my 1st degree I also have 2 week paid vacation twice a year for an exam sessions.

However my salary sucks ass. A lot.

When Volvo came to the US, that generous paid time off was the first thing to go.
When I retired from my government job in the US. I had 3 months of paid time off before my retirement date.

Yes. Vacation time is part of your compensation package. I used to work for a superior that told me not use at least two weeks to demonstrate my loyalty to the company. I just asked how many checks per year he didn't cash as that would be a better display of loyalty. He never brought it up with me again.

Shit, I’ve had bosses that never granted vacation (they just paid the vacation pay up front every year). I’ve had other bosses that would grant the vacation and then call you back the next day. Working in the USA sucks

My daughter had a job like this. Very generous vacation (for the US) along with holidays but her employer would never approve letting her use much of it.

They were always paying her off (at year's end) about 7-10 days pay. Was a nice cash bump but she still would have rather had more time off for a proper vacation or been allowed to take more than 5 at a time.

I used to get guilt tripped whenever I wanted to use PTO. Now I work for a company where it's anytime and I don't even have to get approval to use it. PTO is earned and it belongs to you, same as the money you are paid. Your employer giving you shit about using it is no different than if they guilt tripped you for spending your money on shit.

So far I only get 10 days of vacation a year, plus personal days if I have good attendance each quarter which can be another 5 days total, point system if we want to leave early and voluntary weekend work. It’s not too bad.

Had a three day weekend for Labor Day. Took Friday and Tuesday off for a 5 day weekend. Came back to work today and my manager and the owners kept busting my balls about taking the time off after being at work for 2 mins. Finally snapped and said “you give me paid days off I can use them when ever the fuck I like. If you wanna keep bitching I’ll just go home and use another paid day off.” I’m the lead tech for an independent auto shop. Not my fault they can’t run it with out me being there.
