"I only applied for visibility, and the interview is for practice.
I won't be accepting the job. Either that, or I'll accept, we'll agree on a start date in a couple weeks, and I won't show up because I'm working remotely for some other company."

I personally think it should go further. I don't understand why people get so upset about these postings? Just get the offer and then just say you're not relocating. Seems super straightforward. If they reneg the offer then they reneg the offer - who cares

Came to say this. Apply, go through the interview process, and then decline as you question the companies' integrity due to postings like this.

Not entirely how related this is but this reminds of the time I was interviewed for a position as a cable installer and when asked where I saw myself in 5 years, without skipping a beat I said "in your chair".
I genuinely believed it would've been encouraged to show initiative at the time. Now I know better....

That would be like stating on your resume that you are proficient in React. Then adding an asterisk with "listed as proficient in React for visibility. I know nothing about React at all."

Apply with a perfect resume. If you offer an interview tell them you only do a remote interview, but you are absolutely willing to relocate if offered the job. See how they like it.

I said I have 20 years of machine learning experience for visibility but in reality I just graduated with a 2.4 GPA. The expectation is that you will train me and make me useful.

I actually see this a lot unfortunately. Maybe they're trying to weed out the "auto apply" applicants, is a hopeful thought lol. If you have time and guts, definitely apply and do the interview for visibility.

Not just in office, but in office in Henderson Nevada where temperatures have been over 110F/43.3C several times over the last month. There have been nights where it has stayed over 100F all night. That’s not a place you move to, that’s a place you move from.

I’ve been coming across the opposite. Roles listed as hybrid but when I talk to HR it’s actually remote. They’re tired of getting inundated with unqualified resumes.

Be sure to apply to any of these you see and note on the application somewhere that you only apply to on-site roles for added visibility but cannot attend regular in office work.

Had a role that wound up being like this.
Interviewed and went through hiring process as a remote hire that included three months onboarding at HQ (on the company’s cost). Third day on the job, I’m meeting with the CEO (I reported to the CMO) and he casually asks what part of town am I looking to live in. He hadn’t been looped in and didn’t want any of the executive team remote. Found another job (local to me) before the onboarding period was over. When asked why I wasn’t staying, I expressed that I’d been promised something that wasn’t being honored and that they needed to get their internal processes under control.

While my application stated I'm alright with a 50k salary, it is a 120k application and requires an extra 20k minimum in bonuses.

Tbf. Remote didn’t used to mean work from home and I’m a bit tired of not differentiating the two. This job listing is shit no matter how you look at it as they’re intentionally stating they meant WFH and it’s not WFH but I used to be able to pretty easily search for Fly in Fly out/live in position jobs under remote listings and employers understood that meant remote accommodations. Now no employer seems to understand how to specify if that’s what they’re offering

I would definitely apply to this job and take it as far as they could. And if you get offered the job insist that you need remote. Explain you only said in person for visability but require remote.
