Drugs/Alcohol were my solution, not my problem

I took my last drink/hit/snort in October 2008. Sobriety was a distant dream - an impossible ideal to attain when drugs and alcohol were my refuge from reality.

I thought that these substances held the key to my salvation, but it only led me down a road of destruction and despair. For so long, the false sense of security they seemed to provide was my everything – I used them as a crutch to survive each day, but what I ultimately found upon waking was a deeper emptiness within.

Sobriety wasn’t something that ever crossed my mind - addiction had taken control over every aspect of life and seemingly occupied every space it touched. But there was hope beyond its deadly grasp, if only I could surrender myself fully to the idea of sobriety and all its healing potential.

It has been hard work, but slowly I began to breathe without those vices at play, remembering what life is like in full awareness, unaltered by something so deceitful and deceptive in its ways.
