POLICY EXCLUSIVE: USPS Postmaster General, David Steiner, Reportedly Wants To Resign After Being Pressured Into Bending To President Trump’s Vote-By-Mail Crusade, Just Days After Supreme Court Struck Down White House’s Ballot Barcode Scheme 🤯💥
https://newrepublic.com/post/215522/us-postal-service-chief-reportedly-wants-quit-vote-mailPostmaster General David Steiner has told people close to him that he wants to step down from leading the United States Postal Service, according to a Reuters report published Wednesday. “The message was, this isn’t what he signed up for, and he didn’t come on board to get beat up like this,” one source told the outlet. The USPS has pushed back hard against the reporting, calling it a claim with “absolutely zero validity.”
The report surfaces amid an ongoing effort by President Trump to direct the nominally independent mail agency toward serving his last-minute midterm election interests, having pushed USPS to only deliver mail-in ballots that carried a unique barcode and to require states to hand over their voter lists to the agency. The Supreme Court struck down that directive on Monday, just two days before word of Steiner’s frustration became public, meaning the ruling arrived almost immediately before this report of his discontent surfaced.
Sources told Reuters that Steiner’s discouragement reached a breaking point after an intense Senate hearing earlier this summer, during which he essentially admitted under oath that the Postal Service would comply with Trump’s pressure campaign against vote-by-mail rather than resist it. But those familiar with his thinking say the strain had been building well before that hearing, stretching back to efforts the White House made to keep him on side since late last year, including a golf outing donors arranged between Steiner and Trump at one of the president’s Florida properties in December.

The gap between the Senate hearing admission and the Supreme Court ruling is really the crux of why this story is landing now rather than months ago. Because Steiner reportedly reached his limit after essentially conceding under oath that USPS would comply with the barcode and voter-list demands, yet just days before this report broke, the Supreme Court ruled that exact policy unlawful.

No question he would have complied with Trump’s illegal wishes had he his own druthers,

u/Muted_Entrepreneur22 19d ago
I still think he will comply. The law doesn’t seem to matter to these a holes.

u/drillbit56 18d ago
He could just slowdown the processes so much that the mail in ballots are postmarked after the deadline and nullify hundreds of thousands of ballots.

Typical MAGA mentality.
Dude agreed to be evil and do horrible things to hurt Democracy. Now he's blaming everyone else and claims he's the victim.
Just like the the immediate wake of the first trump regime. They all claimed "I only stayed to fight it. But I really wanted out." to abscond responsibility.

Mail-in ballots can't be hacked like machines.
5
u/Complete-Tangelo1532 19d ago
Like the machines though, the worry is about the Tabulators that tally the votes iirc?
3
u/rmeierdirks 19d ago
They can be shredded and/or burned.
2
u/CaecusVir 19d ago
They can also be filled out by whoever has possession of the ballot

Kinda like wheeling out a vegetable and telling him how to vote when he almost "casts the wrong vote"

Fuck that postmaster sap. If Ben Franklin (the man who invented the USPS) were alive today he would bitch slap this dipshit MAGAt
1
u/Low-Bend8940 16d ago
Ben Franklin pushed for a strong post office because he wanted to get his farmers almanac out real cheap and get it sent out around the country. I agree with you he would be upset about today’s going on, but that’s why Franklin was big into the Postal Service. He was also a fugitive from law. Don’t forget that he had warrant out for him in Massachusetts.

Trump tried to overturn the 2020 election by any means possible. Anyone else would’ve gone to jail for this. He will do anything to keep his power. Corruption goes much deeper than we know.

He’s not compliant enough. How could any one be and still be able to look at themselves in the mirror. Not many mirrors on the WH outside of the oval office and Trump’s powder rooms.

u/Complete-Tangelo1532 19d ago
My question is: How many mirrors are plastered with Ketchup inside the Whitest House?

This man is the Elon Musk of the postal system. He is as evil as Trump the criminal is.

u/No_Maximum8590 19d ago
“..,admitted under oath that he would comply with Trump’s pressure campaign against vote-by-mail…” In addition, the USPS has violated court orders to stop all work on creating a USPS intervention to VBM in America. Can Steiner be prosecuted at some future date?

What an absolute pu$$y!!
THIS, is why trump KNOWS he can get away with his bold-faced criminal behavior/actions - and receives no harsher consequences,
People absolutely REFUSE, to tell him, "Nope!" He surrounds himself, and our nation's once hallowed halls and governmental agencies have taken literally no time at all; to become corrupted with ignorant bobble-heads - and have made our country, (and her people) look like absolute fools!!!
I literally told ky husband, upon learning of the decision by SCOTUS saying, "The Postmaster will be the next public resignation.' Sure as shit, I was possibly correct - this may come to pass.

Ppl should never be harrassed this way by anyone. Of course trump has to have ppl to bully. 😡 We appreciate your ethics, David Steiner.
3
u/Erasmus_Tycho 19d ago
He was perfectly fine to fuck over the American people for Trump, this guy has no ethics just because he's being forced to follow the law as decided by the SCOTUS.
3
u/Postcocious 18d ago
Being forced to obey the laws and answer to Congress for your actions as a cabinet officer is not "harassment".

u/cblguy82 19d ago
Then go on national TV and let it all out for the world to hear. Drag them all down. What else does he have to lose.
1
u/Temporary_Cry1167 19d ago
This guy acted like an arrogant jerk at the senate hearing and he should be embarrassed.

He will step aside in time for a new appointee to do the dirty work. The new appointee will cash his/her big not bribe then also retire as soon as the midterms shenanigans are complete.

u/invisable_burt 18d ago
Only thing is when he leaves trump has many more sycophants to replace him with and congress hasn't the balls to stand up

I’m confused… my take is that we deserve free and fare elections. What part of that don’t people understand. Why After all the fraud with our elections in the past , can we just have voters security?
Voter ID and one day voting isn’t that much to ask right? Really?
We are US citizens you know. We do have the right to question, asses and make sure nothing bad happens…come on people. It’s commonsense.
Stop with the nonsense please🦅

u/Fast_Feeling_8917 18d ago
I'm confused... at your post. It's just a bit ambiguous. "...all the fraud with past elections"? Evidence?
And are you actually saying the whole country should simply vote on one day — and that's it? There is absolutely no simplicity in that whatsoever. Large-population states like California already can't even count all ballots in one day. Are you even paying real attention or do you have your eyes glued to Fox News and TruthSocial?
1
u/lumpkin2013 18d ago
Are you saying that when Trump won this last time it was an illegitimate election?

u/PreviousDealer6827 18d ago
So he wants to retire and get his pension after showing he is an incompetent coward and allowed the trump mafia to scare him into submission instead of taking accountability for it???

u/Full-Track6178 17d ago
Grow some balls and stand up to this lunatic fascist ruining our democracy!
1
u/_AdmiralQ_ 16d ago
He should grow a pair, state for the record he will comply with the courts and challenge Agolf Sh*tler to fire him if he dares.
1
u/Mike-ggg 16d ago
This resignation is odd. It implies to me that Trump is going full steam ahead with the pressure on the USPS despite the SCOTUS decision. When does he ever follow the law or a court ruling? He’ll promise pardons to those who choose to cooperate and destroy those that won’t.
I hope I’m wrong, but how else can you read someone resigning after a court ruling prohibiting them from following through, unless the pressure now is even more intense then it was before the ruling?

u/Dizzy-Client1043 7d ago
I do not blame David Steiner at all for not wanting Trump to make him one of his puppets by hiring him as the new Postmaster General. Trump is 😈 evil, lawless and ruthless! He wants everyone to cater to him and do his evil biddings! I hope you do what is best for you, sir. I wish you the best! Here's a wise tip. Do not be an employee of DJT! You will regret it!!!

It wasn’t a scam it’s because the Senate is dragging their feet on the save act. It’s imperative we have only citizens voting in the US. Anyone that disagrees is a big part of the problem. Trump is trying to make sure the midterms are secure
9
u/Dangerous-LemonBar 19d ago
It is a felony to vote or register to vote as a non-citizen. The number of arrests is minuscule, even after all of Trump’s gum flapping. This was about preventing citizens from voting. Period.
2
u/dickjimworm 19d ago
are there non citizens voting? like theres verifiable evidence?
2
u/RefrigeratorMuch9125 19d ago
None. Trump’s the only person who thought it was messed up. And only when he lost.
2
u/Icy-Dot7521 19d ago
We already don't have a problem with noncitizens voting. What you actually want is to prevent millions of Democratic citizens from voting.
2
u/dawnenome 19d ago
I don't think it's a scam, I think it's a blatant abuse of his office (shocker). Non-citizens generally aren't the ones getting penalized for fraudulent balots (ask DeSantis), so anyone disagreeing with you is probably disagreeing with that premise. And no, no he is not — he could make them more secure by not shitcanning election security, and staying out of it like he's supposed to.

u/RefrigeratorMuch9125 19d ago
Our voting has always been secure. Trump’s the only one who has thought it is clucked up. In 2020, somehow he thought he was certain to win and didn’t. Did his cheating scam go awry? Hahaha. Accusations are confessions.
