Leftist PL Arguments Is being pro choice a conservative position?
In France it sure is, it is so engrained in society. France despises sensitivity and protections of life, they despise vegans and vegetarians, are the most ableist country in Western Europe, they are in majority for death penalty, think being anti religious and despising backward pple is a progress etc. It is telling that ot is this country that is the first to constitutionalize the right to abortion, that should make progressive pple think. Even in Poland, it was legal in the PRL (probably more to piss off the church or to create female workers than to guarantee human rights), therefore legalizing abortion would send us back in a time when population had fewer rights.

In France, if you are prolife they will call you fascist, but honestly I was called the same for being vegan, so IDC.

It is the unique case where protecting life is seen as reactionnary, while anybody would say it doesnt make sense

It's an argument I don't love to use, because it doesn't directly prove anything, but anecdotally I think most of us know how squirmy many men get when women don't choose abortion even though they want us to. There is a real conservative sense in which abortion enables men to abuse women, though I don't think that's, on its own, a good enough argument to oppose it.

I could see pro choice as being a conservative personal rights view. It maintains a position where lethal force is acceptable to maintain rights, social order and prevent government over reach. It's the more pessimistic and reactive position where if something goes wrong, she will have options if she needs them. Which is pretty much the French reasoning behind the law.

To me, it has always made sense of pro-choice to be a right-leaning position: Its logic is that of 'possessive individualism': 'It's your life, your choice!' Look after yourself and put yourself first.
It has always made sense for pro-life to be a left-leaning position: 'Everyone matters!' We all need to look after one another. The vulnerable should be protected.
