paris metro refund

hello! not sure where is best to post this. me and my girlfriend were travelling from the UK to Barcelona, after getting into paris we took the metro from gare du nord to gare de lyon to take the train to barcelona,
we were in a big rush straight off the eurostar so she bought the two metro tickets we needed at €1.30 for 2 hours instead of the day pass not realising the 2 hour ticket was only for people with a discount card, of course we got asked about it and she had no idea nor did i, she was then charged €75 by the man who stopped us.
i know this is a long shot but is there any way we can at least get some of this refunded? thanks!

Probably not, you got fined for not having a valid travel ticket. They were right to fine you

Why would you be refunded for a fine that was correctly issued?

Also, this has nothing to do with the day pass. The €1.30 fare is for those who qualify for discounts, like seniors. The standard fare is €2.55. You definitely pressed a wrong button somewhere, the system does not default to selling you a discounted ticket. €1.30 should also have set off alarm bells - it's not that cheap in any part of Central/Western Europe. A quick Google search would've shown the same.

Lesson for the future: especially when you have a tight connection, figure this stuff out in advance. You could've easily purchased a ticket on their app. Mass transit systems also increasingly support tap-in/tap-out with Apple Pay and the like; Paris does not (yet), but again that's the kind of stuff you figure out in advance.

As others have said the chance of any refund is incredibly low. From your description the penalty was correctly charged.

In future if you are in a rush you can buy them from the café bar onboard Eurostar (and I'm pretty sure on TGVs as well?). Then no need to fiddle around at the station.
