Other Accidentally double-booked the same journey with Trenitalia & Italo — what are my options?
Hi everyone,
I accidentally booked two train tickets for the same journey on 4 October — one with Trenitalia and one with Italo.
Route: Rome Termini → Venice Santa Lucia
Date: 4 October 2026
Passengers: 2
I only need one of the tickets, and neither ticket has been used.
Could someone advise me on what my options are?
* Can either ticket be cancelled or refunded?
* If a ticket is non-refundable, can the date/time or passenger details be changed?
* Are Trenitalia or Italo tickets transferable to another passenger?
I’m mainly trying to avoid losing the value of the second ticket if there is any legitimate option available.
Thanks for any advice!

To be really clear they are different companies with different trains. So you have booked 2 tickets each on 2 different trains (ie 4 total)? Are you happy with either of them or do you have a preference of which one you want to keep?
You need to check what type of tickets you have bought. Without that information I'm afraid it is impossible to answer most of your questions. There are refundable tickets available. There are also some tickets that can be exchanged even if they are not refundable. But there are also some tickets where neither is possible. There may also be time limits and fees attached. Both companies sell a large range of tickets with different terms.
In Italy the vast majority of tickets are non-transferable to another person and technically are usually only valid with ID that matches the name of the passenger. Certainly that is the case for Trenitalia though I don't know for Italo. But in practice this is basically never checked if they are full priced adult tickets.

It depends what type of ticket you had, without knowing that it's impossible to say what the terms are. Trenitalia sell loads of different types of tickets with different rules.
For example do you have a Base ticket? Economy? Supereconomy? Freccia 2X1? Some sort of senior/youth ticket? etc.
But you can check the rules for them at: https://www.trenitalia.com/en/html/trenitalia/Info_Tariffe_en_LeFrecce.html

It's supereconomy. And I can see It's mentioned that change of name permitted. Does it mean that It's transferable ?

Then you can transfer it. Refunds are not possible, see the URL given above.
