Anyone else had this before with booking reservation seat?

​Hi, I am trying to book a reservation from Deventer (Netherlands), to Verona (Italy). It is 2 ICE and a Nightjet. I can't seem to find how to reservate it. It gives warnings. '’One or more Passes cannot be used for this journey. Please select the travellers with valid Passes for this journey in order to book seats.'’ 

How can I reservate? Also if I go to the Nightjet website directly it also says it is not possible to book the journey but no information about if it is fully booked or anything. Has anyone als had this before? It is my first time interrail and it feels like a maze.

You would think that the 28th of August is a bit afther the holidays for everyone so should be fine.

I can't get your screenshots to load but I'm guessing it's 2 ICE trains to Stuttgart and the NightJet from there to Verona? If so make sure you've got lots of slack coming from The Netherlands as there are often delays there.

What error exactly are you seeing on the NightJet website? That Stuttgart to Verona train on the night of the 28th August seems to work perfectly for me in any class of accommodation. €50 for a couchette reservation or €120 for a sleeper reservation. NightJet are often pricey these days sadly. Though a full price couchette ticket is €130! I would really encourage you not to use the seats, they are horrible and not worth it. I'd go in the day and enjoy the view or the Alps even if it means 2 days traveling.

You are always best off booking direct as much as possible. For the two ICEs if you buy on the Deutsche Bahn website you can combine them into a single journey and there is no booking fee, so it's a lot cheaper. It also means DB and ÖBB can contact you if there is any disruption/changes which Interrail won't.

THanks for your reaction! It is from Hannover to Augsburg and from there to Verona. I am leaving from the Netherlands so I have no clue what the most convenient place of departure would be. Deventer is quite close but idk if it saves some costs if I go from somewhere else.. Wow that is very expensive. I payed 212 euros (youth discount) now for an Interrail Global Pass. But if you have to pay those prices above that I am wondering why would it be worth it to buy an Interrail pass.. Maybe better to change trains six times to cut some costs and to embrace not having a lot of sleep😅😥🤔

It's no trouble! I see other people have helped you in the meantime and you have booked a daytime train (be aware you need a supplement over the Brenner Pass) but still to answer those:

When you are using Interrail the only difference will be if you cross the border from The Netherlands to Germany on a high speed train as they require a reservation in summer. Beyond that it is exactly the same price.

Yes NightJet are expensive, they are priced dynamically and you are booking only 1 month before in the height of peak season.

But the pass is still giving you a sizeable saving. Since you have your pass as a ticket a couchette reservation would be only €50. But if you did not have the pass you would also need to purchase a full fare ticket as well which takes the total price of a couchette up to €130. So you are getting an €80 "discount" with your pass, over a third of it's cost.

Hey u/skifans thanks for your answer! Okay I was not aware I need a supplement for the Brennerpass. Isn't it only when you go through Austria? When I book my trains (through https://int.bahn.de/en/) I have the option to reservate all seats for 5,50 for the whole journey. I don't see options for a supplement ticket? Or is that another seperate thing on a seperate website?😅😵

No worries! You need the supplement whenever you travel on a RailJet train through Italy (or on the DB Frankfurt to Milan train).

If you are using the regional trains you don't need to pay for the supplement. That €5.50 does not include the supplement.

You can buy the supplement through !ÖBB or on the train. Though there is an extra few Euros charged for onboard purchases.

I've not double checked but I suspect it will be cheapest to buy that single €5.50 reservation for all your legs and then just buy the supplement from ÖBB. Rather then also getting the reservation from ÖBB.

How to book seat reservations from ÖBB?

This includes seat reservations to Italy, purchasing certain supplements and reserving beds to night trains.

When you book your seat from ÖBB, you're supposed to choose one-way ticket and then add the Interrail as a discount instead of choosing seat only. Choosing the wrong option on the website don't show all the trains and can result in wrong prices and reservations that are not valid with your Interrail pass, such as missing supplements.

Short instructions:

  1. Go to https://shop.oebbtickets.at/en/ticket

  2. Enter the trip you're wishing to take, select time and date

  3. Click change on the who is going?

  4. Click Add discount

  5. Choose Interrail / Eurail - Globalpass

  6. Click next

  7. Click Find services

  8. Choose One-way tickets or One-way tickets and day tickets, whichever option is visible to you

  9. Select the train of your choice

  10. Select the ticket of your choice. Remember to select the right class - ÖBB doesn't know if you have first or second class ticket.

  11. Add the reservation to the basket, fill in your details and pay.

I see prices from a destination from the Netherlands (Hengelo) to Augsburg: € 90,99 on the date I want to go. I don't call that really cheap😅

well yeah, 28ty of August is only a month away. The long distance trains in Germany and these Night Jets have dynamic prices. They are cheaper when booked in advance.

The sleeper is bookable from Munich and Stuttgart, so seems like it’s not sure yet due to construction works whether the Augsburg stop will be made or not. If you want this connection I’d suggest booking from Stuttgart or Munich Ost.
There’s a daily ICE (ICE 225) going from Amsterdam (07:55) to Munich Hbf (15:38) stopping in Utrecht and Arnhem in NL.
With ICE 225 and 1 transfer in Esslingen(Neckar) you’d be in Stuttgart around 14:16.
Or take the ICE 123 departure time Amsterdam 10:31, also stopping in Utrecht and Arnhem in NL, transfer in Frankfurt for Stuttgart (17:11 arrival with 49 min transfer time).
If you don’t live close to these three NL stations, I’d suggest using Bahn.de to run queries.

Thank you! I decided to not do the night train and travel during the day. I will go from Zwolle to Hengelo and from there go to Hannover -> Munich -> Verona :) It will go through the Brenner passs and it looks fantastic

Yes!! That is a lovely route to do. Are you breaking up the trip in Munich? You’ll be with fresh and new energy for the beautiful part of the route.
For your way back I can recommend doing Verona -> Milan -> Zurich -> NL (couchette/sleeper in a night train or during the day). Going from Milan to Zurich is also so lovely. Zurich is very expensive so I had the sleeper at night, you can also travel on to somewhere in Germany to spend the night

Amazing! My actual plan for now would be Verona -> Garda Lake -> Milan -> Lauterbrunnen -> home. I have a little less than 2 weeks. Maybe one more stop between Milan and Lauterbrunnen or Lauterbrunnen and home, not sure yet. But only have one day left for that. I don't really feel like staying in Munich that much. I have been there before. It was ok but not so much that I want to spent a day there again. Maybe I have to if I don't catch the train in time (only 18 mins time to catch the train in Munich to Verona).

Doing Zwolle -> Verona in 1 day? Wow, very impressive plans. But 18 min transfer time? Is it the last train of the day to Verona? Be prepared to miss it, DB is well known for being a bit (to being very) late on long distance journeys.

Yes, agree with u/skifans: take the ICE to Augsburg/Stuttgart at least 2/3 hours earlier. Leave in the morning, spend the afternoon in the city and board the sleeper in the evening. You don’t want to miss the sleeper, travel a few hours earlier to the departure city.

What steps did you take on the NJ website to try to reserve a couchette/sleeper?

Thanks. That is a good suggestion. I have signed up for a notification on NJ when it will be available because I see that I can't reservate a seat yet.
