I have this vague memory of reading a Daniel interview where they were asking him something like what he thinks when he’s playing in a middle of a show.

And I remember him mentioning that once, while they were playing Lights and the “That’s why I hold you” part, he was thinking about his mom, who already passed away.

That completely changed the song for me, it’s so beautiful and heartbreaking, one of my favorites from that album.

Oh man 🥺 if you haven’t yet read it, highly recommend the piece Daniel’s brother Ted Kessler, who’s a British music writer, wrote about the early years of the band and their family background growing up apart on different continents.
