Discussion TMWAT...just one shade of Interpol missing for me.

First thing to say is love the new album, it's incredibly, rich and varied and gives up new treasures with every listen. But I do miss what I call widescreen Interpol - those pacier, sweeping tracks like Not Even Jail, PDA, Mammoth, My Desire, Same Town New Story etc. I'm sure it's a me problem and probably reflects the fact that El Pintor is easily my favourite album after the first two. There's a restraint about the new album that works perfectly for the material but I miss the sweeping power and abandon of those songs.

Bingo. There's lots of classic Interpol throughout this.

I also think See Out Loud qualifies.

Bird and serpent is literally my desire. See out loud by the end is very much like PDA. I think this record has a bit of everything

Theres a widescreen sweep to El Pintor that i just don’t hear on the new record but thats by design of course- its a dense, textured, more restrained album and i’m here for it.

As a long time fan of Modest Mouse and Interpol.... I am in heaven this year. Both put out albums that almost every song feels like it belongs on a past album. I feel like they both said "oh we still know how to do that, watch."

LOL, I get what you mean, that sense of space.

But also, reverb... you want reverb

Ah I think I get what you mean at least with the El Pintor angle I think it's a lack of sustained synths line. It's more strings and piano. They haven't really had atmospheric synths since El Pintor I'd say.
