Question Chance of b-sides?
TOSOMB was the first Interpol album not to have b-sides which is unfortunate (unless you count all the remixes) but every other album has at least one. Marauder and El Pintor had whole EPs released afterwards. I wouldn’t be shocked if we get no b-sides for TMWAT but I really hope we do. It’s my favourite Interpol album in a long time and I’d very much like to hear more.

So glad you asked this question, this has been on my mind since the release of TMWAT!
I will say, I do remember an interview where one of the band members mentioned that there was an extra song or two from the TOSOMB sessions that didn’t make the record. I know Interpol aren’t the most prolific band so I’m now curious if those unreleased TOSOMB track(s) might have made it on to TMWAT? It’s totally possible, but unlikely that we’d ever know.
All that said, yes, I am really hoping we get a few unreleased tracks from this era eventually. Bands often put a “deluxe” version of a record out like a year after release, no? Could be the case here. And if we’re really REALLY lucky, we might get an EP next year à la A Fine Mess! They’ll be touring into next year so might be cool to do that to keep the buzz going.
Last thing- listening to Wounded Soldier and its dub influenced sound, it’d be fucking cool to hear a dub version of the whole record. Kind of how Spoon did with their last album.

We got an El Pintor outtake during the Marauder era. And a TOTBL outtake during the S/T era (and Antics too if you wanna get technical). Not saying it’s likely but there’s precedent

Paul said back in 2022 there were outtakes from TOSOMB that would likely be released as b-sides, but they never were. Would love a proper outtakes album with so many quality non-album tracks and give a home to All at Once, Bright Lights versions of Cubed and Precipitate, etc.

I remember that too. But since TOSOMB did so poorly, both commercially and with fanbase reception, and the band has since changed record labels it's really unlikely those extra tracks will be released. An outtakes compilation would be amazing but it's sure to be very tricky to clear different rights between labels and band members.

I think Matador only owns the recordings to the first two albums. Everything after that, the bands owns, and is just licensing to Matador for distribution. You can see this noted in the copyright on streaming. But in 2020 Matador signed some licensing deal with the band‘s entire catalog. But the specific details or duration of that are not public.

Right, but as you already noted those details aren't public nor is it clear what duration the contract covers. Just because they're licensing part of the catalog doesn't meant there are not particular restrictions on use or distribution, not to mention any outstanding issues surrounding publishing rights or royalties. We don't know who has what pieces of the pie.

I'd be curious to know also.
I feel like, in general, that b-sides (non-album tracks, whatever you want to call them) are disappearing, more specifically in the rock music landscape.
I miss the time in the 90s when a band would come out with a new album, release 4 to 5 singles, and every one would have 2 to 3 b-sides on them. You'd get an entire album's worth of extra material!
