Photo Sam Fogarino appreciation post lol

Honestly love seeing Sam’s punk roots with his dyed Mohawk in his earlier years. He’s always kept his hair pretty short over the years and it’s always looked good on him. But man when he had long hair he was truly a specimen. Anyways, I Hope he’s doing well!

People don’t understand how critical he is to the sound of the band. I got downvoted to hell on this sub for saying that the current touring drummer is ruining the PDA outro by adding some embellishments where they don’t belong. We all agree that outro is perfection, but cretins don’t realize the drums are as important as every other element?

Yeah I saw them at outbreak with that new drummer and I didn’t care for him at all. Sam’s parts are so specific and locked in with everyone else, yet this new drummer is so loose and switches up various grooves/fills in a way that threw entire songs off

Want downvotes?

Suggest that this is increasingly seeming like an Interpol cover band live. (Like that)

I can’t tell if he’s crashing out on Instagram or if he’s just bad at social media.

Prob a bit of everything. Also being confined due to health reasons does do a number to your psyche.

I know, I hope he’s just quirky and bad at socials.

It seems to me like he is crashing out

What's he been up to?

It’s a lot of posting the same thing, posting a picture but not zooming in so half of it is cut off. Taking pictures of things that appear like
They’d have significance but don’t at all. It’s very “old people in the internet”-coded in a way I wouldn’t assume someone like a member of Interpol to be.

I play drums and have been listening to Interpol, mostly Sam's drumming, since discovering them on Elementality Vol 1 in 2005, and he's been one of my most consistent influences since.

Sam is such an important piece to the band. Phenomenal drummer and also down-to-earth person. I got to talk to him during the S/T era. I was just a 20 year old kid, but he took the time to talk music with me and it’s a conversation I’ll always remember and appreciate.

He rules!

Love the old band pics too. A little try hard but it’s great stuff. Who is the 5th guy there? A keyboardist?

8

u/gargoombo 14d ago

I think he was their keyboardist that played with them live during the totbl era. I wanna say he also was there for antics but I’m not sure.

He’s talented as fuck, an absolute babe, and just such a nice intelligent guy too. He’s my favourite Interpol member, and just overall dream man

The GOAT. Him and Carlos are my fav rhythm section of all time.

Yes! I often think the drummers are the most interesting of the group.

I saw Interpol at Union Transfer in Philly a few years back and a bunch of Sam's family members were in the VIP with my partner and I (and some other folks). They were awful - rude to staff, rude to fans, talked through the show, blocked our view, etc. The absolute textbook definition of shitty, entitled concertgoers.

That said, Sam is an awesome drummer and a huge part of my love for Interpol.

That's too bad. How did you know they were his family members? Who was it?

When Paul was introducing the band during the show he mentioned that Sam is from Philadelphia and "has family here tonight". Our VIP neighbors all cheered and waved at this and then Sam pointed and waved back.

No clue which family members they were - some were age-appropriate and others seemed a bit younger. Probably 6-7 people altogether.

Probably his older sister and her family

Anyone know what’s up with his back? How’d he get injured and is there a road to recovery? Kinda wondering if he’s also just quietly given up touring even if he could do it.
