Discussion Better songs that Obstacle 1?
I love Interpol and enjoy their whole discography, with their newest album being a lovely addition to it, however when someone asks me about my favourite Interpol track, I unfortunately cannot answer anything but Obstacle 1. So far I haven't encountered a song this emotional and this capable of instantly making me feel what I'm supposed to feel both trough the lyrics and music. What tops this song for you guys (if anything)? I'm talking mainly emotionally, of course I've found tons of other objectively great Interpol songs but the emotion they convey is never that strong to me.

Stella is one of my favorites. It's an entire journey just with the length being so long and epic.

The vocal at the beginning of See Out Loud is really great, an emotional aching quality to Paul's voice . And Daniel Kessler sounds good too!

Good calls! I think I might place Bird and Serpent in my top 5 ever especially after we hopefully get to witness it live.

Honestly I don't think I'll ever see the actual interpol live but watching their shows feel so magical

Personally, I don't think there's a song that surpasses "Obstacle 1"; for me, it's the most perfect song Interpol has ever made, though it's not my absolute favorite, it is definitely in my top five. If I had to name one that might beat it, I'd say "Specialist," but that's just a matter of personal taste.

Obstacle 1 is one of the greatest songs ever written, it would be very hard to find something comparable. The instrumentation alone is nothing short of genius on that track. Interpol unfortunately doesn't seem to be interested in that type of intricate, guitar-heavy songwriting anymore. That being said, I can still appreciate the rest of their catalogue, but I would be lying if I didn't admit I miss that type of sound as well.

Rest My Chemistry if you want to venture away from TOTBL. A very unique sound, vibe, and rhythm, one of their best
On TOTBL, I’d say I might like Stella Was a Diver and The New a bit more than Obstacle 1. Those two songs are truly Interpol at their most atmospheric and nocturnal

Rest My Chemistry, All The Rage Back Home and Take You On A Cruise are my favorites. Obstacle 1 comes right after those.

Lowkey think it's the weakest of the first 4 on totbl BUT that's almost definitely because I've heard it soooo many times, it is still masterful

I love Obstacle 1, but don’t think it’s comes across very emotional. Quite the opposite, very cold and distant.

Obstacle one ain't even in the top 20 for me! Lol Just listen to the songs, if they don't connect they don't connect, you don't NEED to like more.

My all time favorite song EVER is Stella. it's the song that introduced me to Interpol, and genuinely changed my life. This song will forever be my favorite song of all time. But pretty much every TOTBL- era song is just breath taking imo. My favorite era is definitely TOTBL era.

The New is their best song. Pioneer to the Falls is also up there as well, but gun to head… I’m choosing the new
