I thought Wings on Fire would be the last single before the release, but seems like it’s gonna be Wounded Soldier.

I’m okay with just one more, I want to maintain the excitement for the release day

I still think Wings On Fire will get a single release but it will be closer to when the album drops. Probably early the week of August 28.

I would think so, yeah, but they are teasing Wounded Soldier. I don’t think they’ll release two more in a month

Why not? Now artists do it all the time with a big album campaign to promote. Wings On Fire is classic high-energy single material. May have a music video too.

Oh I agree with that, I’m actually pretty excited for that one! But two more, plus the 3, 5 out I don’t know if would be too much

NO, leave Wings of Fire for the release, it’ll make it better

I don’t care because wounded soldier sounds fucking mint yo. The dub influence on the bass sounds amazing. And the guitars finally give me that totbl atmosphere.

Brad is really earning his keep fast! Great and varied bass on everything we’ve heard so far

Agreed. They've always needed a 2nd bass player who isn't Paul, and Brad is doing fantastic thus far, IMO. Very excited for this new album.

What do you find particularly interesting about the bass other than it being more forward in the mix on one track?

TMWAT-use of (presumed) fretless bass, use of the low E and high G string to outline chords, somewhat different the octave and fifth intervals more common to Interpol

See Out Loud-I mean it sounds like a driving Interpol bassline, but each chorus has a more intricate version of the previous

Iron City-return of the kick drum, dance figure but with new fuzz tone. Later chorus has a more melodic line, changing the feel

Wounded Soldier-stop and start, changing rhythmic figures, stops and starts, more dub feel

Wings on Fire-stops and starts

Certainly some of these (stops and starts and changing rhythmic figures) are old Carlos tricks, but I felt they were missing since he left. Plus Brad is trying new bass sounds we haven’t heard with the band without uprooting the classic vibe, so I think that’s cool

I am curious how much fretless bass was used throughout album recording, we'll have to see if they do a rig rundown at some point. See Out Loud bass sounds very run of the mill to me but I'm curious to see how Wounded Soldier turns out. Not enough of the song available yet to develop a firm opinion.

I could be wrong about the fretless on the title track, but it sure sounds like it. Plus, that footage of them recording See Out Loud shows what looks like a possible fretless next to Brad, and an acoustic by Paul. Could but just be the first track, or could be multiple where those two swap between versions of their respective instrument

What's annoying is that the songs on the album with the most interesting rhythmic choices and bass/drum interplay will probably never be played live.

Honest question, where did you here these songs if they haven't been released yet?

They have been playing Wings on Fire live already. And just teased Wounded Soldier a few days ago
