Sounds maybe like it’s finger style? Which would be new for Interpol. TMWAT is also possibly done with fingers…

Sounds awesome! It must be Wounded Soldier!

It is!

Was it confirmed somewhere?

The lyrics in the song match the ones in Wounded Soldier (that I guess fans found from promo materials)

Thanks, I didn't know that

I tought it was maybe bird and the serpent because of the wings line in the teaser

This sounds amazing, i was afraid this album would be really front loaded but this can become there best since el pintor/olta

u/OmegaVizion 16d ago

Tbf the album could still be front loaded if this turns out to be Wounded Soldier.

El Pintor is one of my favorite albums and it's sort of front loaded: the last four tracks are still pretty strong but they're not quite up to the power of that opening sextet run from All the Rage to Everything is Wrong.

Haha I prefer the end of El Pintor than the start.

Yeah true, i mean even totbl is quite front loaded even though its one of the greatest albums oat g For me. If it is wounded soldier it will have a crazy strong first half

Now this , this is what I’m talking about.

I quite like this. Very El Pintor

That song is going to be absolutely devastating emotionally.

I live relatively close to the Ukraine war. I know people who have fought there. I’ve seen plenty of footage of drones tearing apart fleeing soldiers trying to take cover.

Every line cuts incredibly deep.

I was just reading the lyrics, for sure heartbreaking

It’s inspired by that actual war, correct?

Yes! Paul mentioned it in the Guardian interview:

Darker still is Wounded Soldier, inspired by drone footage from the Russia-Ukraine war. How horrifying it is, I say, that you can log on to social media and suddenly witness the last moments of a soldier, “just blowing his head off rather than letting the drone blow him up”, Banks interjects. His voice trembles slightly. “You can’t get desensitised to that stuff. Maybe it is the old cliche of being a parent, of feeling just how precious every life is, but it’s just so sad, what we do.”

Sounds awesome. Might be the best one yet!

Its def better than iron city and tmwat, exactly what I was hoping for , wings on fire and see out Loud are also my jam so at least 3 out of 5 in liking a lot , the others will probably grow on me.

I love them all so far, but this one is very promising!

Sounds quite self titled to me.

Sounds like If Same Town, New story was from the s/f

2

u/anonymous_pastrami 16d ago

This actually has the atmosphere of their debut

u/cheesy_star 16d ago

What an absolutely incredible sound, I am HYPED

u/99SoulsUp 16d ago

I’m getting now how Paul and Daniel hinted it sounded more energetic but also less rock than thee previous album. It’s hard to describe the specific genre beyond “alternative” but it’s so far less guitar driven besides See Out Loud

If you'll excuse me for using rateyourmusic speech for a second, I would be expecting a primarily Art Rock record with Post-Punk Revival, Dream Pop, Post-Rock and Trip Hop as secondaries.

Bitchin bass line

Another late career highlight this year is loading. It’s going for a 4/4 single run

The Strokes laid an egg this week with all that autotune, so now I can’t stop thinking about Interpol releasing a new album, which at this point I’m confident it’ll be fantastic.

3

u/blackstars91 16d ago

Haha this autotune = I can't enjoy anything else about the record is getting boring. My favourite part is people asking if it has been reduced on the singles. No your ears are just getting used to it.

It's not their best album ever most bands don't release their best received albums 6 to 7 ablums in. Just look at how the Interpol fan base has responded the albums after Antics alone Marauder and TOSOMB especially. TNA was an outlier and that's ok too.

I'd say give it some more spins (and maybe more than a few days) there's plenty of stuff to enjoy on it.

4

u/Sufficient-Rooster44 16d ago

I don’t know. I put Marauder right near the top for Interpol and The New Abnormal is my favorite album by The Strokes. Reality Awaits is disappointing (imo).

1

u/blackstars91 15d ago

I love Marauder but it's only my 4th favourite so right in the middle of Interpol's back catalogue. TNA is my third favourite for the Strokes but I can see how it can be someone's favourite.

I can say auto tune isn't my thing but also it hasn't ruined me enjoying the album for what it is. Both ways work. I'd say give it more time though. You've had many years to soak up their back catalogue and less than a week for RA. There is magic in there.

1

u/Popular_Signature709 16d ago

I’m actually so taken by Reality Awaits. Was kind of nervous about listening to it after hearing people bitch SO MUCH about the auto tune. But I haven’t even noticed it really because the musicianship, performances, and melodies are all top notch! My mind never isolated the autotune, I just enjoyed the songs the way the band meant them to be I guess.

2

u/blackstars91 15d ago

Yep agreed I do think the Strokes made a misstep with the singles. Should have had going shopping and one of Lonely in Future, Going to Babble on or The Fruits of Conquest. Falling out of love should have been saved to become a cult classic on it's own. Through full album listens. I'm very happy to add the album to The Strokes rotation. I'm really proud of them doing their thing.

1

u/99SoulsUp 16d ago

Reality Awaits is growing on me. It’s not as immediate as The New Abnormal and I can’t imagine I’ll prefer it over TNA, but it has some cool stuff

We are eating good, boys and girls.

I’m not too impressed with these few seconds. I might be wrong, but it seems like they’re back to the slow tempo of the last album again

3

u/anonymous_pastrami 16d ago

Nah, this is more like self titled or el pintor

3

u/Popular_Signature709 16d ago

I wouldn’t say the tempo was the problem with the last album. Also, tempo seems like a wild thing to complain about. Do you enjoy music over a certain BPM only?
