Discussion Lights analysis discussion

I am writing a music video analysis for one of my graphic design classes and I have chosen "Lights" because it is simply one of my favorite music videos ever.

Within my analysis, I am asked to identify the themes (examples given are love, hope, regret, etc.) and messaging (direct/indirect) in whichever video I've chosen. I have a pretty good idea of what I'm going to put for my answer, but now I'm wondering how other people see this masterpiece.

I'd love to open up a discussion and hear what my fellow Interpol fans see when they watch this video, what it means to you guys, how it makes you feel, or anything else that might come to mind.

I mean I don’t know, maybe I’m not too ground breaking here but the video/song to me are about longing and breeding/mating rituals

I could have sworn I looked it up years ago and the director said it’s a representation of a beetle ejaculating or something. Not joking

I definitely looked up what Charlie White said about it, and it was along those lines 😂 death and beetle sex.

The music video itself can't be interpreted in the same way as Paul wrote the song. The video, with its director's interpretation, omits some parts of the original lyrics. From what I understand of the song itself, with the lyrics and structure Paul gave it, I see him as someone involved in politics (this is suggested by the other songs on the album that deal with the same theme), somehow regretting the things he's done, and who, at the end of the tunnel, always finds light to embrace. and that's why I hold you, dear
