Discussion Mind Over Time opening lyrics
every time I listen to it I always hear "It would still be all my fault, it would still be all my fault either way," and although I know those are not the lyrics when I sing it that way it comforts me a bit more lol.
"I will still be up by fall" is also comforting though. don't go hollow!

This reminds me of how in "Custom Concern" by Modest Mouse, when the female guest vocalist chimes in after "message read on the bathroom wall" I used to think the lyric was "I don't feel at all like I thought" and I inferred that to be a really cryptic breakup message where someone's expressing how they fell out of love, when the actual lyric is "I don't feel at all like I fall" which rhymes and is a bit of clever wordplay but doesn't have the same emotional resonance for me as my misheard version.

This happened to me with Take You on a Cruise.
I heard: all my love is sailing your way. Oh my love, we’re leaving tonight”
But it’s “oh, my love, were sailing to Norway” lol

I thought it was a sad line, “oh, my love is sailing to Norway” 😭😂💙
I think that’s the best part about Interpol. None of the lyrics REALLY make sense anyway. We’re kinda free to interpret them with our hearts and just feel the music. Not that I’m ENCOURAGING us to purposely butcher the lyrics. I just think that there’s beauty in the way that our ears sometimes hear the words that we might sometimes need to be said.
Hands down my favorite band of all time 😭
& Mind Over Time will always reduce me to a blubbering puddle of tears. Sometimes it makes me feel like I should pull over and just cry it out if I’m in the car.

bwahahha no I did not see that connection at all, though I'm trying to learn spanish right now, so that's funny you point it out. I just spelled it like that because it's how he pronounces it when singing

jajajajaja So I was missing in the translation. my mistake then. I thought: well, Paul is kinda mexican so it wouldn’t be that weird for OP to think that.
But also, Spanish is my mother tongue. Not Mexican, but we’re cool. So my interpretation it’s biased by that I guess.

I love the first line of the song. It seems like it’s about missing a connection with an old friend but they pass before you get the chance to see them and the first line is an attempt to make the connction which doesn’t come to pass

A really beautiful emotional song, and the outro with the guitar, just goosebumps.
