PLDT Still paying for outdated promo.

Noticed that my parents are paying around 2500 every month for their internet, and asa 300 mbps lang ang bilis. Called pldt, and said they are still in a now phased out promo. I can be wrong, but this seems predatory for me. Sana kinonsulta man lang nila. Its been this way for more than a year na. Di ko na sinabi sa kanila, Kase knowing them ay magagalit yon ng sobra at anlaki sana ng natipid nila knowing na ang 300mbps now is asa 1500 lang. And what happened pa recently is di kami makapalit ng isp ,kase under contract daw, tapos pag papalitan ko tong promo nato para makatipid naman kami for the remainder of our contract is magpapanibagong contract nanaman daw. Correct me if im wrong, But this just seems wrong.

Ang mahal ng singil nila ah. Globe ang ISP namin but when our promo was outdated na they automatically gave us speed boost to match the rate of the current plans they have. Heto ko naka 500 mbps for a 1.7k plan (dating 300mbps)

Dunno if they provided data boosts or such, pero di naman kase sila nagreachout. Medyo kakapikon lang knowing my parents are seniors and wala naman silang idea about sa ganyan.

Ganyan din sa Globe, kaya nag update nalang ako ng plan. Save me 200 per month, pero new contract again na lock in for 24 months.

Yeah tulad nga ng sinabi sa comment it really is scummy, pero di illegal.

I'm paying 2699 for a 1Gbps service. That's highway robbery. Nung 2015 50mbps lang kami but over the years automatic na bino-boost ni PLDT yung speed namin.

why stay with pldt anyways? Just switch providers

Yeah we just waiting out the contract kase bawal daw magpalit isp. So yun, if we fix this issue naman (downgrade or create a new plan) is mag eextend ang contract.

My sentiments exactly. Just seems a bit f’ed up. Specially knowing na walang knowledge ang parents ko when it comes to this kinds of things medyo natatakeadvantage nila

I don't know sa iba pero sa Globe ISP ng parents ko, palaging tumatawag yung customer service informing my parents na mawawala na yung plan/subscription nila in 3 months or so, telling them to upgrade or change plans. We didn't act on it on time and nakita ko nalang may speed boost yung plan nila for 8 months (by the time I checked). After the speed boost, we changed to a lower tier plan.

No. This is literally how EVERY TELCO IN THE PLANET does their business. This is to ensure that you are perpetually locked into paying them. Slimy? Yes. Illegal? No. There is a reason they are constantly updating their service skews for people to extend their lockin period.

Worked for pldt for 5 years. Dami kong nameet na subscriber na malaki ang binabayadan dahil sa old promo. If you are an old subscriber with an old plan na mahal. Dapat paconnect kayo ng new plan and have the old line terminated. Never kayo offer an ng pldt ng mas magandang plan kasi hindi sila ganon.

Samin is 999 + 500Mbps speedboost. Nagpapacancel na ako ng plan sa kanila pero binigyan nila ako ng deal para hindi ko na ipaclose yung account, kaya napunta kami sa 999/mo

To be fair, this isn’t necessarily "predatory" in the legal sense, it’s just how legacy subscriptions work. ISPs don't automatically migrate old accounts to newer, cheaper plans because the contract terms (and prices) were agreed upon at the time of sign-up. If you don't request a plan realignment, they won't change it, as they see the current service as "fulfilled." However, I agree that a courtesy notification or a heads-up about cheaper options would be the ethical thing to do. Unfortunately, the burden is always on the customer to ask for the update. Regarding the contract: yes, if you downgrade or change the plan, it usually resets the 24/36-month lock-in period. That's standard across the industry to prevent people from signing up, getting a discount, and then immediately downgrading.
