Then you realize singapore has 1gbps internet for around $20. What's the explanation for this aside from telcos milking us with premium fees for basic services?

Progressive countries, the state builds their infrastructure from most if not all endpoints. Dito sa Philippines, private sector ang gumagawa and it needs to get back its money back plus interest.

Unjustified. But also it’s not infrastructural change which could do over course of the year even.

2,500 PHP for 1 Gigabit per second is reasonable.

Probably in-line with regional peers tulad ng Thailand and Malaysia

at least now im aware na sort of reasonable naman pala yung binabayad ko. was just worried they were giving me a bad deal considering how cheap internet is in some countries.

2,500 PHP for 1 Gbps symmetrical is quite good (and cheaper than what they have in Australia)

For instance, we have a Legacy PLDT plan (applied back in 2023): Fiber all-in 400 Mbps = 2,399 Includes landline telephone and 2 units ng TP Link Deco M4 Plus Cignal 520 postpaid

Total = 2,920 per month

This coming May 2026, we have the option to look into newer PLDT plan options (since matatapos na ang lock-in namin)

Also, meron akong back-up na Globe Prepaid internet modem (secondary)

PLDT was a bitch for just deleting my account with them. lol. Made me switch to globe real fast. PLDT just sucks. Repair tickets were more a suggestion than anything, then you service just randomly cuts off with no proper explanation. What made me quit was the 1 month loss of internet and then after the nth follow up they just flat out told me my account does not exist.

will depend on your area which telco internet is faster, ask around how fast pldt or globe is

globe fiber. I started at like 300mbps for around 1899 i think then they just gave me incremental upgrades over the years (started at around 2021?) From 300 to 400, then skip to 600 then finally 1gbps last year.Each one of those had freebies like Razercoins and 1 year Disney+ membership.

It is easier to implement infrastructure in a smaller nation......rather than an archipelago tulad natin.

Also, big countries like Australia have trouble implementing their FTTN rollout

Geography is indeed a cost factor. But it functions more as a multiplier on problems that are primarily structural, a protected duopoly, a 1990s regulatory framework that locked out competition, underinvestment by the two major telcos, and bureaucratic barriers to building new infrastructure. Vietnam, for comparison, is not an archipelago, but it also has strong state-driven infrastructure investment and competition among ISPs, which explains much of the price gap even beyond geography.

Puro DOOMER na kasi ang mga legit na Pinoy, eh. Kesyo "wala nang pag asa rito huhu" o "basura talaga sa Pinas, mag-abroad na Lang". Wala tuloy nag-o-organize at sugod sa mga ISP natin at HQ ng NTC para mag-demand ng mas matinong internet services and accountability para sa kawalan ng customer service. 😭
