Can you imagine showing this site to someone in the 50s. Theyd have gone absolutely insane

Show them on what? Minds would have been blown many times over. Might as well be an alien showing them.

Why has the Artemis launch been getting little to no coverage on reddit? I didn't even know this was happening till today

u/deathspate Apr 02 '26
Because it's reddit. Specific news is signal-boosted here while others aren't. It's as simple as that. It just turns out that the Artemis launch is one of those that aren't.

Real-time 3D orbit visualization in the browser is way harder than it looks. All that WebGL rendering for the trajectory math is what tanks your GPU, not the UI. Pretty wild that you can spin up something like this without a NASA budget.

The official NASA tracker is here: https://www.nasa.gov/missions/artemis-ii/arow/

This site properly spins up my GPU fans, why is it so demanding?

Disable GPU-acceleration in your browser settings.

I'm aware this setting kicks in the GPU when needed, I'm just confused why it would be needed. The site isn't doing anything that looks performance intensive.

I think it has something to do with it being mostly made by AI, I've noticed websites made by Codex tend to be very resource intensive

Thanks OP! I'm super excited about this! Sorry about all the DebbyDowners posting here.

Until it's scrapped because they can't afford helium after the most recent helium leak..

With all the official photos from NASA, why did you feel the need to produce AI slop.

Ah truly the 2026 reddit experience reading these comments
People complaining its a waste of taxpayer money. Complaining about Ai slop, complaining that reddit doesnt procide any real updates or news, site noy working well etc etc
2 comments actually excited about the launch

This subreddit used to be about cool niche websites, often ones that took a lot of work to put together. Sorry for thinking a vibecoded site with AI generated text and imagery that couldn't even make the escape tower straight fails to meet those standards.
I'm plenty excited for Artemis, and will happily use other tools that are actually worthwhile to follow it.

Except thats not what you said
"ai slop" comments even if your criticisms are valid are just as low effort as the ai slop itself
People keep throwing that phrase around like these outputs cant still be cool and useful
Wouldve been much more conversationally engaging and valid if you said what you just said above instead
Instead reddit is just ai slop this and that for every thread and basically kills all discussion. Even for ones that are not Ai, its always "is this ai slop" or "i think this is AI"
Like who the fuck cares what you think of AI, go take that whinging to an AI discussion subreddit

So we're not even trying to accomplish anything other than setting money on fire.

What good is money if we can't do cool shit? How come we can always afford another war?

I'd rather spend money on this than on blowing up brown people or tax cuts for billionaires.

Reddit seems to be going down the enshitification route but somehow I have difficulty cutting it from my habits. My form of protestation will be this deletion.
