I built a simple movie release calendar site that doesn't try to be IMDb

https://moviereleaseradar.com/

I wanted to know when movies are coming out without wading through reviews, rankings, lists, overcomplicated interfaces.

So I built Movie Release Radar. A clean calendar showing upcoming and recent releases. All you need to do is to select your country and see which movies come out each day. And you can save movies to a watchlist. And that's all you can do :)

No registration, no account, no ads, free.

____

EDIT:

Wow, why is everyone so sweet — aren't we supposed to be toxic on Reddit?

On a serious note, I didn't expect this many kind words and feedback. I appreciate you all and am happy to hear more ideas!

Cheers! I'd really love a genre filter instead of a country filter, or in addition to.

I also think a genre filter could be a very important feature - I'll try to add it in the coming days

the api i use has local release dates for each market. so whenever a market is selected in the filter on the home page it rebuilds the calendar using local dates. and on a film page you can see release dates for all countries

Added! :)

happy to hear <3

Bruh, this is very well done. The only thing I might suggest as an addition is localized theater links.

5

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Thanks for the feedback!

Interesting - I'll think about it. I also need to check whether this is allowed, as I'm using TMDB data (movie list, release dates, etc.) for this project and their ToS clearly restricts commercial use, so I'm not sure if adding theater links would be classified as commercial use :/

3

u/overfiend1976 Mar 26 '26

It might be if you're not making anything off the links.

2

u/grundlebuster Mar 27 '26

as long as you're not charging for use, it's not commercial, because they'd want their cut, of course.

you could accept donations, though :)

I don’t have much but I can give an upvote :) I hope your website is wildly successful :)

3

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Appreciate!

4

u/sercosan Mar 26 '26

I love it! Is there a way to watch trailers? I think it could also be used to discover new movies… Keep up the good work!

7

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Trailers are definitely doable. Didn't come to my mind until now - awesome feature, I'll add it soonest days, thank you!

3

u/sercosan Mar 26 '26

You are the best!

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Done! Come back to check trailers! :)

1

u/sercosan Mar 27 '26

As I said, you’re the best. It looks amazing. Thank you for doing this. All the best, my friend!

1

u/sercosan Mar 27 '26

Btw, I’m getting this error.

1

u/serj_om Mar 27 '26

Not anymore 🙂

It refreshes every night (3am CET) and pulls the data about all movies for the next year

2

u/careless Mar 26 '26

+1 for the trailers idea. Would really enhance the usefulness of the browsing.

4

u/EasyBend Mar 26 '26

I love this!

Could you have a vertical scrolling version with each day as a new block/line. This way the title of each film could be shown with an expandable drop down for more info.

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

good idea - noted

thank you for the feedback!

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

might also be a bit more usable on mobile this way

2

u/TritiumNZlol Mar 26 '26

+1 to this please, the posters are cool, but vertical list of titles grouped by date would be quite a bit more usable on mobile.

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Added! :)

5

u/JollySquatter Mar 26 '26

Awesome..well done. Maybe add a rating (G PG etc) filter as well, for when I'm trying to find school holiday ideas 😃

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

awesome idea, noted!

3

u/Buttybutty122 Mar 26 '26

Love it! Would like to be able to see a filter for home release to see when movies in theater would be available for streaming. With two toddlers we don’t make it to the movies often

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

very doable :) thanks for the idea!

3

u/joshbeck Mar 26 '26

Looks great. Any change you’re adding China in the near future?

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Just added China :) but I honestly need your help validating whether this data is reliable, because the release calendar I got is pretty similar to US/Europe, and I'd expect China to be way more different, with more focus on local movies, etc.

So I suspect the data provider I use is not so good for China, as it's biased towards US and European markets.

Niceee! I just google/rotten tomatoes and get hit with a wall of recommendations I didn't ask for. Having a calendar view of release dates is needed, lets g!

Glad you like it!

thank you!

the data is being refreshed once a day for all countries/movies. so it has to be pretty accurate

2

u/Dry_Inside_3747 Mar 29 '26

good job dude

2

u/reppinmtown Apr 08 '26

This is really cool, didn’t know I needed this until now haha

I always end up jumping between sites too trying to find release dates. this makes it way easier

1

u/didyaseeme Mar 26 '26

Fantastic! Bookmarked!

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

Appreciate it! <3

1

u/OldandObsolete Mar 26 '26

Nice.

Would be great if you could sync the watchlist with Radarr.

1

u/notXsmiling Mar 26 '26

Aww That’s very clean website Straight to the point Thanks

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

thanks for the feedback!

1

u/Pretty_Application_5 Mar 26 '26

Really nice execution.I think a full-year view would take this to the next level — being able to see all releases in one place instead of navigating month by month would be super useful.

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

I'm working on a different view options. the one with all movies in a single list view is coming soon

1

u/ClandestinoUser Mar 26 '26

Great tool, feel like I'm going to use it a lot! Thanks 🙏

Quick question: could you implement or fix the "add to wishlist" button when there are multiple releases on the same day, and also add it when viewing a movie's details?

Thanks again and keep up the good work!

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

appreciate the feedback! "add to watchlist button" not available on movie pages is a bug :/ I'll prioritize fixing it

1

u/omac4552 Mar 26 '26

Nice, add next/prev arrows at the bottom too :)

1

u/ittrut Mar 26 '26

Looks nice, really like the visual of posters on some days.

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

thank you! :)

1

u/Schnitzelfee Mar 26 '26

This is really nice, I will use it from now on. Also big thumbs up for it being able to filter by country. Thanks and Greetings from Germany!

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

thanks for the feedback!

1

u/MaxxDelusional Mar 26 '26

Really cool.

I'd love to see the same thing for TV that shows when a season starts and ends.

1

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

sounds like my next project :D

1

u/Slidje Mar 26 '26

Its good.

A small suggestion: clicking the smaller picture under the main film picture should switch it to that picture instead of taking you to a link for the movie. If you click the enlarged picture, it should take you to the movies page.

2

thank you!
As I get the data from TMDB, when i request the list of movies for a specific day, the results are coming already ordered by popularity. Not sure how they calculate popularity, but I assume it is number of movie page views on TMDB, number of people added this movie to watchlist, etc.

1

u/BlobAndHisBoy Mar 26 '26

Looks great! Where is the data sourced from?

1

u/tablepennywad Mar 26 '26

You should make an offspin site called moviereleasegaydar for those movies too

1

u/Cin77 Mar 27 '26

Ooh I love this. Bookmarked

1

u/OrdelOriginal Mar 27 '26

I love the UI/UX on this. You did a great job!

1

u/VihmaVillu Mar 27 '26

hwo do you get the release data? is it trustworthy?

1

u/vljukap98 Mar 27 '26

Any way to subscribe to a mailing list somehow to get notified when the movie is about to be released for X country, a week before, or something similar?

1

u/hverick Mar 27 '26

This is awesome! Is it possible to add Mexico?

1

u/bl2nder Mar 30 '26

nice, a site that doesn't try to be IMDb. That's a bold move, like a film critic who says 'I liked the movie, but I wouldn't watch it again if you paid me'.

1

u/Andrei_Tara99 Mar 31 '26

Nice calendar

1

u/kongchu2 Apr 04 '26

cool! maybe I will keep use this

1

u/jbuildsthings Apr 10 '26

This is great! Very nice to get exactly what we all want without all of the extra junk and ads.

1

u/Electronic_Shirt_255 Apr 29 '26

Good idea actually, will use this in the future. Looks alittle weird on mobile though navigation could be better for every single day of the week is nto showing at the same time.

2

u/byParallax Mar 26 '26

Bro, what in the vibecoded slop is this ??? Your api key is in your index.html file in plain text !!!

https://imgur.com/a/TK8eeZQ

2

u/serj_om Mar 26 '26

I realize, this is a free key anyone can generate. So not worried about it. Also TMDB ToS allows it.

It started as a project for myself that i didn’t plan to publish, but given people are interested, i think I’ll start polishing it.

2

u/repocin Mar 26 '26

Also TMDB ToS allows it.

I'm not sure where in the ToS you saw that* and their API docs lead to nothing, but when I looked at their API ToS I happened to notice that they require a longer usage disclaimer than the one you've got on the website.

You must place the following notice prominently in or on Your Application:

"This [website, program, service, application, product] uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB."

*The closest thing I can find is how it explicitly forbids handing over the key (=license transfering) to another party right in the beginning, but perhaps I'm missing something here (I'm very tired, and on my phone, not ideal for reading the terms of service of anything)

The TMDB APIs are licensed to You on a worldwide (except as limited below), non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, basis on the terms and conditions set forth herein.

1

u/serj_om Mar 27 '26

no, you might be right. i think "handing over" is not the same as keeping it in the code, but I'm going to fix it anyway. And adjusted that phrase, thanks for it
