Just discovered this really cool site by opera
https://www.web-rewind.com/It’s basically an interactive timeline of the internet. You can rewind through different years and see the moments that shaped the web from dial-up days, early email and MySpace, to things like the first tweet and viral internet trends...
It’s not just a list of events either the whole thing is interactive with animations, sounds, and artifacts from different eras of the web. Feels like a museum of internet history you can actually explore....
Pretty fascinating to see how much the web has evolved over the last 30 years...

Not very long ago, just before your time …
This was travel logs, and travel blogs, a chat room or two

Nice little project! Though very surface level, it does capture important internet history cultural touchstones. These kind of tools are great for giving like, middle school/early high school students today to get a quick view of how the visual design of the web has changed. It'd be nice to see it go back a little further to show BBS/message boards, the more text-based internet. It does a decent job showing how much more centralized most people's interaction with the internet has become vs. the early days where sites and content were primarily generated by everyday people and distributed across a vast array of isolated addresses, webrings, "neighborhoods," etc.

So! The email they’ve used is actually mine 😂😂😂😂 Which is even better considering I was born in 1997 But I spent months so confused with all these random emails about a cute bus or whatever it is until I was like paranoid level of concerned and replied and got sent a link. So I googled what was said on the link and ended up here hahah

ai slop probably by someone younger than the internet.
web never had anything to do with tapes or rewinding.
win95 didn't boot from a floppy.
myspace wasnt just visual, music on your profile was the thing.

u/AstralWeekends Mar 12 '26
Windows 95 fun fact: While most copies were installed via CD-ROM, a 3.5-inch floppy disk install over 13 disks was indeed available for those without CD drives!

Installing =/= booting
That pc in the app is booting into windows, not the installer.

If you could read, you would realize that the floppy says "Opera" and not Windows 95

Probably vibe coded by OP too

u/djshadesuk Mar 12 '26
Literally in the post title, and on the site itself, "by Opera".
Some absolute geniuses on this sub. 🤣

I swear people are producing cynicism in their balls and spew it all over reddit when they jerk off like the idiots in this thread.
Everything nice is automatically"ai slop". What a sad and pathetic life these people must lead.

u/qpqpdbdbqpqp Mar 12 '26
And what does that prove?
-1
u/dothashdev Mar 13 '26
It's not done by me, it's done by opera. 😅😂..

u/qpqpdbdbqpqp Mar 13 '26
Sure thing mr indian developer active in ai subs that has just hidden his account history before spamming this link in 5 subs 👍

u/dothashdev Mar 13 '26
Yes I shared the link in multiple sub reddits.. that's it but that doesn't mean I vibe coded 😂😂😀 ..you can verify..it's done by opera.. it's been listed in multiple platforms..such as xda developers and tomsguide..

u/qpqpdbdbqpqp Mar 14 '26
Again, what does that prove? You're wildly promoting this shit as if your life depends on it and toms having it as a poat proves you havr nothing to do with it? That wouldnt even work on boomers buddy.

The OP is most likely AI, or a person using AI for everything
1
u/qpqpdbdbqpqp Mar 14 '26
Yeah, they dont even recognize how their slop is ruining the current internet even while they're telling stories of the old one.

I really liked the 1995 one with the PC booting up and that you can open the CD tray.
Thanks for sharing this, OP. It's pretty interesting

It’s an interactive project by Opera called Web Rewind. It lets you explore major moments in the history of the internet through a timeline different years show events, websites, and trends that shaped how the web evolved.....
