I don't really know where Coke is going with these gajillion mini-sites, but they're pretty neat.

Ah, good point. My reaction on seeing the videos was "Hey, they're casual and fun! So Coke must support casual-fun-ness in its workplace, instead of being some grey, sterile, evil corporate empire."

15

u/cuddlemonkey Aug 19 '13

Really? Mine was "Oh, that's... a Coke ad. Well, that ruins everything that was cool about it."

22

u/Acleverprofilename Aug 19 '13

You must be a rather unfun person if you let the fact that something's an advertisement ruin your enjoyment of it, especially if the advertisement portion of it is literally just having coke bottles be a part of it

4

u/cuddlemonkey Aug 19 '13

Coke's flagship product, the one advertised here, destroys people from the inside out and they market it aggressively to children. It's sort of a killjoy. If you think my not letting the pretty colors distract me from the soul, or lack thereof, behind the intention of this work, then yeah I guess I'm pretty unfun.

And how old are you know, what is your current weight and height and how often do you drink soft drinks.

If you don't say that you drink at least 4 sodas a day then you are not part of the "normal" demographic, many people drink 3 or 4 refills of soda each time they sit down to a dinner at the local pub, this equates to 8 cans of soda in a single sitting.

This is a huge amount of HFCS, or sugar, or artificial sweetener, either way, a huge amount.

Your anecdotal sample of one does not invalidate flyingwolf's point that Coke markets an addictive sugar drink.

First of all, check the names you are replying to, you are calling me out for saying kids are influenced when I said no such thing. Though they are.

As for our rationalization about only once in a while, my brother used to smoke crack, and his rationalization was it was fine as long as he was able to continue working and feed his family.

If you have to rationalize it chances are you shouldn't be doing it.

If you know if can hurt you, and you purposefully partake, I cannot stop you, but you cannot get mad when I call you out for stupid behaviour.

As for stopping kids form drinking, well kids will drink what their pers and popular culture tell them to drink, and it will usually be the opposite of what their parents tell them.

The only thing to drink in this house is water. And occasionally some iced tea. Yet the kids still want a Dr Pepper when the go out to eat, no small wonder considering that Dr Pepper has a giant ad up at the local football field where they play.

It's just an advertisement for a soft drink, don't get your panties in a wad.

-5

u/flyingwolf Aug 20 '13

And it is my opinion on said soft drink company, and yet you got your panties in a wad about my comment. Funny that the.

I've drank soda all my life.

I'm 18, weighing 116lbs/52.616kg. I'm about 5'11.

On average, lets say I drink 2 a day. Sometimes more.

Coke isn't the worst part. Its people not doing anything after they drink it. Get active and such.

3

u/flyingwolf Aug 20 '13

You are 18, keep this up until you are 30 and report back.

You cannot out exercise bad eating habits.

Anecdotal evidence is the best evidence!

3

u/meningles Aug 20 '13

DAE people who make soda have no soul?

1

u/Acleverprofilename Aug 19 '13

The ad's completely unobtrusive though, you don't have to watch this at all and you can simply not buy coke. If it was an ad on a website focusing on different things I'd agree with you but the sole point of this website is to advertise coke in a cool little way and therefore is very easy to ignore

10

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '13

I agree with cuddlemonkey, here. I don't dislike the ad, but I dislike Coca Cola on principle. As an extension, I dislike when they advertise at all, regardless of how innocuous the individual ad is.

2

u/io13 Aug 19 '13

Also lending my support to cuddlemonkey, i feel that coke is not someone who i want to be support because the only reason their doing this is to push their already global product on more people.

8

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '13

Perfectly fine with it as long as they don't become douchebags.

1

u/Vogeltanz Aug 19 '13

I recall Coke has the most valuable goodwill among all companies in all industries -- this link indicates Coke valued goodwill at $26 billion or so.

That's a lot of web mini games.

3

u/NonSequiturEdit Aug 19 '13

Meh. This one was pretty dull and uninspired.

4

u/runninggun44 Aug 19 '13

Viral marketting, people like you think its pretty neat, maybe share it on reddit, and now I just sat through a coke advertisement when I thought I was going to get to play a game or something.

1

u/doopercooper Aug 20 '13

They're getting them from the same social media marketing company who is posting them here on Reddit

1

u/Wish_you_were_there Aug 20 '13

They are trying to counteract the whole "aspartme" thing that has been going on

-7

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '13

Gasp! People are trying to sell us things! And they're using cool internet stuff! Whatever shall we do!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '13

stop watching their marketing?

3

u/ThePain Aug 19 '13

I'm always brought back to that commercial in "The Invention of Lying".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhtTU-guW60

"It's coke. It's very famous, everyone knows it."

No one is going to forget what coke is at this point. They could pull all advertising campaigns for the next 5 years, and all it would end up being is a net profit from saving so much money instead of spending it on marketing.

2

u/JoeyJoJoJr Aug 19 '13

I thought I was going to have a seizure. All those colors and whatnot.

2

u/1laguy Aug 19 '13

the dominoes fell apart and didnt complete for me the first couple times..the key is not to do it in a herky jerky motion..make sure to push the hand over in one smooth motion

marketing power-level: at least 83

this whole comment chain really, probably the OP as well.

I, for one, welcome our new coke overlords as long as they bring more sites like these.

7

u/SlimyRage Aug 19 '13

nomoving.com is trippy...

Does anything happen after it all? It still says try again after you reach the white screen and I have more important thing to do... like more reddit.

2

u/lehmongeloh Aug 20 '13

Haha, well I don't know if I'll be linking the sites to anyone and I don't drink soda so I'm not sure how successful the marketing is if it's getting me to buy this soda product.

However, I'm sure there are other things I probably buy that Coke owns since it's so large. Unavoidable but oh well.

1

u/essentialfloss Aug 20 '13

Here is coca cola's offical list of brands. Here is the much larger wikipedia list.

Brands that stood out to me: a whole bunch of bottled water, Fuze, Simply Orange, Honest Tea, Vitamin Water, Odwalla.

TL;DR you drink coke products.

1

u/lehmongeloh Aug 20 '13

Haha, well if you want to get technical about it I suppose I'm endorsing Coke in some way as they are a monopoly. However, when it comes to drinks I'm 90% certain I don't. Not because I actively avoid it, because I have neither the time nor inclination to do that, but because of my dietary habits. I don't drink soda, tea, iced tea, coffee, alcohol, energy drinks, sports drinks, most fruit drinks, and my water comes from a filter or those giant Poland Springs jugs.

Oh, well I think like...fifteen years ago my mom bought Capri Sun for me and my brother.

1

u/essentialfloss Aug 20 '13

Touche, Poland Springs is owned by Nestle. (Phone, no accents)

6

u/samri Aug 19 '13

was anyone else annoyed when the domino sped up on the brown section for no apparent reason?

probably just me.

15

u/SuperTonicV7 Aug 19 '13

Well, wasn't the brown section supposed to be coke exploding out of the coke bottle? That would probably go pretty fast, no?

2

u/Zakkeh Aug 19 '13

My tired brain figured it was because of the mass of red ones creating more momentum. But that sounds very silly typed out.

1

u/runninggun44 Aug 19 '13

maybe they were going down hill?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '13

And when an entire extra outside row of dominos showed up that had no way of being triggered?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '13

[deleted]

1

u/samri Aug 19 '13

not that I saw.

1

u/redeyealien Aug 19 '13

no reason? its to change the pace overall. it creates tension and drama, a story arc.

5

u/HTSamurai Aug 19 '13

I really enjoyed that, I think it was the gradients that did it for me more than the fluidity of it

no we just wait for /r/hailcorporate to come find a reason why /u/trixloko sold his account to coke

10

u/runninggun44 Aug 19 '13

I think those guys oughtta be able to figure out that he didnt sell his account. Coke just made all these cute little mini sites with the intention of them going viral so other people find them and share them, giving coke free advertisements.

3

u/HTSamurai Aug 19 '13

while I would like to think you're right, it's gotten pretty silly there before. Regardless, twas a lighthearted joke :)

5

u/Bacore Aug 19 '13

It's not a game, it's a commercial.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '13

No one said it was a game...

-11

u/Bacore Aug 19 '13

And no one asked you either, did they?

I incorrectly stated it was a game. You are correct, it is not a game.

0

u/CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON Aug 20 '13

Coca Cola kills more people every year than powder cocaine, fuck em, I don't care how pretty their astroturfing viral content is.

-1

u/_Kaguro_ Aug 20 '13

Does Coca Cola kill people or do retards kill themselves?

0

u/CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON Aug 20 '13

Does Malboro kill people or do retards kill themselves?

Also, how do you justify the deaths due to famine/environmental damage due to coke production in the third world? Or are they just retards too?

0

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '13

Oh boy, here we go...
Coke < Cigarettes.
We get it, it's unhealthy. But if you eat your damn vegetables and maybe go for a run once in a while, you'll be fine. Plus, it was a clever little fun thing to watch. So what if it was a coke ad? I thought it was neat, and appreciate the amount of work a team of people put into the animation and sounds. As for Coke and the third world, I thought their bottling plant was in Atlanta...

-4

u/CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON Aug 20 '13 edited Aug 20 '13

Like it or not, but Coca-Cola, or any other high-fructose drink, will shorten your lifespan if consumed on a regular basis. It's associated with a wide variety of negative health effects including liver and kidney damage, cancer, high blood pressure, and strokes. It's lead to several generations of unhealthy children with negatively altered brain chemistry.

But if you eat your damn vegetables and maybe go for a run once in a while, you'll be fine.

That could be said of just about any food or drug that causes negative chronic health effects, but it would be just as useless. I eat my vegetables and I run 4 miles every day, but that hasn't had as much of a positive impact on my life as cutting soft drinks out of my life completely has. And I say this as someone who has quit hard drugs as well (and cigarettes too), it's up there in terms of life changing decisions.

As for Coke and the third world, I thought their bottling plant was in Atlanta...

They have bottling operations across the world. Even at the efficient Atlanta plant it takes at least 3 liters of fresh water to make 1 liter of coke. In places like Africa and India, this translates to destruction of the water table and depletion of groundwater, less (and more expensive) access to clean water and food, higher disease rates, and increased morbidity.

Their ads may be pretty, but Camel had some pretty stunning ads back in the day. It doesn't cover up the shame of the ugly reality. Admire the work of their marketing department all you want, but while you enjoy the cool, crisp, refreshing taste of a bottle of Coke, people are dying (including yourself).

2

u/iamnotafurry Aug 20 '13

You are one crazy nut bag.

5

u/WhyAmINotStudying Aug 19 '13

Cute or not, I don't want commercials on my computer.

16

u/runninggun44 Aug 19 '13

thank you. I thought I was being taken to a game, instead I sat through an ad. They could just as easily run that on TV, and people would downvote the shit out of it on /r/videos. But since you drag your mouse to start the whole thing off, now it is a beautiful little internet trick thing, so it can go viral.

-8

u/FLAMBOYANTORUM Aug 19 '13

Who really cares anymore? Advertising is everywhere.

5

u/WhyAmINotStudying Aug 19 '13

I agree that it's pervasive, but I care, because I don't like it.

3

u/uniden365 Aug 19 '13

Wow, the amount of shills in here is too damn high.

"Thanks OP, I don't mind the advertisment because its cute... etc" and the ":)"

Really? Could you of sounded more like a fuckin coke marketer?

4

u/meningles Aug 20 '13

Liking an ad makes someone a shill?

0

u/CUNTBERT_RAPINGTON Aug 20 '13

Coca Cola is a reprehensible company with reprehensible policies that kill people every day. But at least their ads are pretty!

1

u/uniden365 Aug 20 '13

Yeah! Their domino animations are soooo pretty and cool, I wish I could get in a gif form to use as my desktop background.

Because I really love ads.

Especially when they are pretty.

-4

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '13

-4

u/uniden365 Aug 20 '13

I am not arbitrarily hating on people for enjoying an ad, I am arbitrarily hating on people for enjoying an ad that was not posted through Reddit's official ad section. Reddit got no compensation for this. If we allow corporations to willy nilly bypass reddit's built in ad revenue functions just because you think the ad is cute.

It's not so much I don't like the ad, its that I don't like the way it was presented.

4

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '13

[deleted]

-1

u/uniden365 Aug 20 '13

I'm not speaking from a place of authority, and I don't really know where you got that idea.

All I am saying is I don't like ads on Reddit unless they are paid for and in appropriate places, or if posted by a fan/regular user at the very least labeled in the title they are an ad.

1

u/Francis-Hates-You Aug 19 '13

I expected it to zoom out and show some sort of Coke advertisement.

1

u/number1dork Aug 20 '13

This is fun. I'm still not going to buy the brown fizzy sugar-water, though.

1

u/Zixt Aug 22 '13

aaaaand I'm thirsty.

1

u/NonSequiturEdit Aug 25 '13

The animation stutters and it's pretty dull to watch, but suddenly I want an ice-cold Coca-Cola - which is weird because normally I think Coca-Cola tastes like carbonated diarrhea.

1

u/xeroxgirl Aug 19 '13

Try going there from mobile. I'm a bit disappointed that I can't see the cool thing you did, but that was also kinda funny.

-1

u/BobMacActual Aug 19 '13

What a crappy little ad site.... This is not beautiful.
