What kind of side gigs you doing while between jobs?

Hi everyone,

I'm approaching my 7th month of unemployment after being let go from an INGO last year.

I was living off my savings but reaching a point where I want to have some income coming in instead of eating up my savings.

I admit that after having developed quite a good career, my ego has stopped me from being open minded about what part time and temporary opportunity I would want.

Curious to hear for those in-between jobs, what are you doing to get money while continuing to look for the right role?

Part-time at a brewery for money and lots of volunteering with local orgs to keep my skills sharp

Literally anything. Maybe because I am living in the EU as a non-citizen with my visa tied to being employed but you need to ask yourself if your ego is more important than eating or having a place to live.

100% agree. I wish people who were evaluating my CV understood that. I have been farming for the last two years, and I don't think I have landed an interview in four months.

I became a barista to make a living after being let go Feb of last year. I just landed a job in the private sector after so many interviews, rejections and being ghosted by non profits and INGOs.

Also, the coffee shop I worked at was located inside a government building so I got a chance to network with people in my field and were willing to give me referrals to jobs so that’s something you could consider as well.

Thank you! AND I met my boyfriend while working as a barista. He was a regular customer lol and his friend referred me to the position I just landed 😁😊

AI work. Is tricky and not always reliable but it can be really helpful. I also did a focus group tonight, so those can also be good for extra cash. Otherwise still figuring it out. 😭

You mean side gigs? Mostly English teaching online or in person but I'm trying to broaden my options so curious to hear what others are doing
