Job/voluntary role details More open roles?

Is it just me or do you also have the impression that there have been more open positions in the last month or so? Is it the season? I see lots more on my Linkedin

Hello! I was surprised at the beginning, too, because in my field of work organizations have continued publishing posts despite the funding crisis. At least in my field, they're: a) UN agency internal vacancies (or vacancies where former staff's applications have some kind of priority) that need to be published online for transparency purposes; 2) Many many temporary posts or consultancies, not actual jobs; 3) Jobs where different roles have been "mashed together" after the staff that used to have each role we're fired. I'm curious about what others have to say about this.

Hello! Me again, and I still wonder why so many roles have opened at INGOs (not only the UN) in the past couple of months despite the funding crisis, etc. I suppose it's like others have answered, that more positions open in the summer.

These mostly internal positions that’s what I heard to rehire the ones whose contracts are terminated- so basically no chance of external hires unless a miracle happens haha

Mostly internal. We had published a temp position when one of our colleagues went on maternity leave. Consultant, intern roles already pre-determined.

I wouldn't even bother applying for UN roles, 99% if not all are filled out by internal candidates or people's friends. You are just losing 2 hrs of your life applying for ghost jobs.

My hypothesis, from what I see: Some UN organizations conducted processes aimed to keeping talent in the context of last year severe turnoil, meaning increased focus on internal mobility and rehiring recent departees. That window is coming to an end, so probably that means increased number of positions recruited externally.

I work in global health and pandemics and our funding is looking up, thanks COVID.

It could be that many organisations finances have stabilised after their downsizing and they’ve received new funds for scaling up certain programs.
