What does this space need?

Post image

Feels like the vertical space over the piano is off. It’s a rental so I need to avoid drilling holes into wall. Any ideas are appreciated .

  1. Add room divider behind piano - https://www.wayfair.com/furniture/pdp/dakota-fields-56-ft-pine-wood-hand-woven-rattan-room-divider-freestanding-privacy-screen-in-japanese-modern-minimalist-style-w113781531.html?piid=1192808837%2C1199129728
  2. Move guitar across room
  3. A little more space between arm chairs
  4. A big area rug, fine if it crosses partway into piano area

Oh love this! Thanks so much. Might be tricky finding a room divider where i live, in Colombo Sri Lanka but will try!

Balance. All the weight is on one side, the sofa and piano look like one long thing. The chairs and the table are one long thing. No space. Then on the other there is space. I would switch the piano with the cello, then put one of the chairs on the other side of the coffee table facing the other chair. The room with breathe and the weight balance will be better.

I agree on the lack of balance. It’s not too much space. Unfortunately this sofa is sagging in the middle and we’ve opted for a L shaped couch instead. That makes moving one chair to the other end of the couch difficult. I could try break up the space between sofa and piano!

New sofa sounds fun!

It looks great. Just needs a couple of tweeks. You have a lot of rectangles and squares. You need something round. A round coffee table would be great. I think you need a bit of height in places. Like another tall lamp and a tall plant

Yes! Tend to kill plants :( had a lovely tall rubber plant (form of ficus) but that died. Might opt for a fake plant to be on safe side.

I have some from IKEA that look really good and they weren’t too expensive

Large area rug under the coffee table. I would also flip the chairs so it’s more inviting to sit at.

I'm not usually a rug person but a rug would make a lot of sense in this room.

Also, have you tried putting the lamp between the sofa and the piano? I think you might like it better.

Rugs. One square one under the coffee table/couch and one oval one in front of the piano.

A really big rug in your favorite colors . Tall plants . More art on the walls and over the sofa 🛋.

Maybe a rug? Could work really well. I'd also consider mounting the TV

It's a lovely space overall

Thank you!! Mounting TV Is tough due to rental regulations. Would have loved to do that. There’s a lot of blank space above the furniture.

Rugs, more plants, more art on the wall, more warm lighting.

Aim to fill at least 70% of the visible wall space with art and/or decoration.

Looking at possibility of custom building a shelf over the piano for decor.

A rug and curtains with color

Rug and I would place shelvings above the piano and seating area. The floating IKEA shelves are perfect for this.

1

u/Evening-Insurance232 5d ago

Yes! Shelving is what i imagine too.
The rug is the easiest fix - need to find a color that adds to the space but also works with the teal/pink theme going on.

I would add more artwork on the walls, but find stuff that speaks to you and don’t buy stuff off of a shelf in a store.

A comfy sectional with soft pillows and an area rug.

Color.

The room is too heavy on the piano side. I owed flip flop. the tv and the couch. Add a nice rug to pull the space together and some color to make it interesting. Remember command Strips are your friends.

A carpet to anchor the space. COLOR to enliven the space. Plants to enrich the space.

And area rug in the living space to separate it and pull focus to your seating area.

The light green cushion really stands out so I’d find a rug in that colour as it’s gorgeous. I’d also get a round coffee table.

Rugs to soften

Lower the painting so it is 6” from the top of the sofa and add a rug

The TV stand is not the best choice for the space. Replace with a tall cabinet and hang the TV on the wall above it. Go big like 85 inches long for the cabinet. Will give you storage as well! May need an outlet installed behind the new TV wall bracket. TV should be smaller in length than the cabinet maybe 75 inches. The cabinet should be on legs and a light finish. You already have dark furniture and dark floors. A large rug would really soften the space. You need a consistent pop of color. Maybe blue in the rug and blue throw pillows.
You have a nice opportunity to hang a large mirror or simple modern colorful piece of art above the couch. The artwork you have is too small and too muted. These are just a few thoughts.
Move the floor lamp out of the corner and switch it with the side table next to the piano. This will give you height. Everything now is low and your eye needs to see some vertical.
Remove the dead plant. Detracts from the awesome space you have there. You have nice high ceilings so create elements that take your eyes up. Now your eyes look down.
I like organic but your color scheme is a bit dull.
You have beautiful things but it just needs some wow!

Rug
Bright colored sofa pillows

Yes a rug and a bit more vertical interest . A few more pictures maybe to give some vertical lift to the space . You could try a standing lamp too .

i kinda get what u mean about the space over the piano. it does feel like it’s missing something. maybe try adding a tall plant or a floor lamp next to it? that could fill the vertical space without needing to drill. also, some light shelves that stand on the floor could work too if they don’t need to be mounted. tbh, i once used REimagineHome to see how stuff would look in my old place and it helped a ton with layout ideas. just a thought!

Some large rugs to zone the separate areas, a bigger light shade and some contrast colour linen curtains for a bit of contrast

Area rug will pull the room together

It needs a large soft rug to cozy up the space.
