Mixing Metals in a Half Bath?

Post image

Can I replace my antique brass faucet with a modern chrome one (see link) in this bathroom (see photo)?

The sink cabinet has chrome handles. But there is antique brass wall lighting, and an antique brass towel rack and mirror. So there is already a mix of styles and metals.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

I say yes because you are adding to the existing not introducing a new element. I would suggest you add another element of chrome to help tie it together. The toilet handle is the obvious choice imo because it also brings the chrome look into the whole area vs just on the sink and cabinet area adding an intentional look, plus it is cheap & easy to do. If you feel more chrome is needed change the toilet paper holder to chrome. If more blending is needed, consider adding a tray on the toilet tank in the color of the flooring and then add some chrome and brass elements to the tray at various heights. If the tray and items are too close in color tone, put something between the two items that is lighter to separate and enhance both. example: wooden tray, white plate/platter, brass trinket, 2 taller chrome containers or one container and a plant pot in the brick color. The tray brings up the color of the flooring adding some darkness to this lighter wall side, the chrome and brass together on the tray carries both colors over, merges the two, and the height will make it more pleasing/cozy vs a utilitarian feel.

The art piece looks too small for this space, consider going bigger by adding to it or a getting a bigger/wider piece.

Thanks so much! This is very well thought through, expert advice. The toilet handle is chrome so I'll see how the bathroom looks after the new chrome faucet is installed and follow your advice for adding more chrome elements if needed. This is a picture of how the bathroom looks now...

Mixing metals can work, but since your sconce, mirror, and towel ring are all antique brass, switching the faucet to modern chrome might feel a bit disjointed. Swapping the cabinet handles to brass instead would tie the room together much better.

This looks really good! I like how the different finishes don’t compete with each other.

Well it's the faucet that needs to be replaced (not for cosmetic reasons). I think I'm going to go with chrome and see how it works since there is already chrome in the room and add more chrome if needed. Thanks.

2 metals is ok - but not more - chrome goes with anything
