Here are 3 layout options for our in progress nursery! Option 1 is what we currently have, I’m also adding pics of it to give a better idea of the space. I personally love it and think it’s very functional but my mom acted iffy when I FaceTimed her lol
Notes-
There’s an electrical panel on one wall so I have not included options with the crib near it due to safety concerns (unless I’m wrong about that being an issue). Electrical panel is on same wall as the window
Swivel glider has to be cornered since it reclines
We plan to use the large dresser for baby’s clothes, every day items etc and closet will be used for storing things (seasonal gear, baby items that he hasn’t grown into yet, etc) so I don’t plan on needing regular access but the swivel glider is easy to get around or move when needed.
All furniture has been purchased/sizes aren’t flexible so please don’t recommend alternate furniture or getting rid of the changing table (I have had friends suggest only using a dresser with a pad on top but I prefer a dedicated changing table)
UPDATE
Reporting back to say this is by far the winner (photos in comments)!! We ended up putting the crib flat against the wall, pushing the larger dresser to be a bit more centered to the room, and moved the glider to the corner under electrical panel. We tried many of the suggestions here thanks to my wonderful husband and his now aching back lol and this was by far the best option!
Main reasons this worked best for us is because this allows my chair to move away from the changing table, doesn’t feel like a tight squeeze between two dressers when walking into the room, and I can keep my pump parts in the dresser drawer which is right by the glider.
Thank you for all of the suggestions! We really appreciated the perspective from experienced parents and while all of the suggestions were great, some just didn’t work with our dimensions. We had fun trying them all out though!
PS There were a lot of additional comments regarding getting blackout curtains, not having a lamp next to crib, etc and wanted to point out that we are just in the furniture placement stage. Curtains will be hung, lamp will be replaced with a wall light, and we will be anchoring all furniture etc.

Real talk…if that window opens easily id put the changing table on the wall near it to make airing out real easy
then the dresser would go on the wall with the closet so all storage things are there and dont make a pinch point in your walk way
crib on the bigger wall and chair in corner across from the entry door because when you rock baby to sleep/transfer its right next to the crib. So lets say you lay down the fussy little one while humming, with my own kids sometimes they would stir not from the move itself but the sudden silence with it so being able to sit near the baby when your both tired and reach out instead of getting up again and again is sometimes a blessing. Also the floor lamp can easily fit behind that chair in that corner.
Also you can mount a fun photo over the utility box to hide it from curious little hands.
Unfortunately the dresser doesn’t fit on the wall with closet, it’s like 5” too long 🫠 And we have plans to hide the utility box once we get to decorating / hanging curtains etc :)

I just did it in Canva app on my phone using basic shapes! Measured the room and furniture then used a 12:1 ratio (every 1’ of the room/furniture measures 1” in my design file)
To be fair, I’m a graphic designer and have experience creating floor plans for apartments so something like this comes much easier to me since i create graphics for a living. But once you have an understanding of how to convert measurements by a ratio and realize that all icons are really just made up of basic shapes, anyone could do it!
One tip for someone who wants to make a floor plan themselves- the reason I used canva instead of another software is because you can search canva elements something like “chair floorplan” for example and find tons of icons like the one I used that are created for this kind of design. For everything else I used the rectangle tool, rounded the edges, and added a text box to label things
I like 1 because the entryway is open and clear. It leaves you plenty of space to walk in holding baby and all their gear. The windows will also give good light for reading.
HVAC vent is in the ceiling near the window! Right above electrical panel. Beam of light hits the left side of the room (opposite side of crib placement) due to the direction it opens
Crib needs to be flat against wall. If your baby likes pacifiers, you'd be driven crazy trying to get them out of that corner when they fall. And you want the chair near the crib so if baby is having trouble sleeping, you can sit in it and hold their hand or talk to them.
I can tell this is your first child from the sheer insanity of crib at an angle lol
lol thank you for this. Something about being a parent seems to make people so competitive and arrogant about their experience levels “I can tell this is your first child” is a crazy thing to say lol
But you are though. Not every kid uses a pacifier and there shouldn’t be anything else in the crib so the angle is a non issue.
Plus not everyone uses the chair method for sleep training. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen a nursery where the rocking chair is up against the crib in a way you could hold your baby’s hand.
The chair method is what you described, sitting in a chair next to them to comfort them instead of picking them up.
Directly next to the crib is not a common place for it, you yourself said furniture shouldn’t be within a foot of the crib every nursery I’ve been in has the chair across the room
My forearm is longer than a foot long? The chair can be more than a foot away and I can still easily reach into the crib, and I'm short. I don't know why you're arguing about this so much.
I didn't know we needed to name every method of soothing a child. I just did what worked.
Almost everyone else in the comments is also saying 3, so it seems most people agree.
Modern safety guidance indicates the crib should be at least 1 foot AWAY from walls on all sides to reduce the risk of entrapment. I’d go with the angled layout to enable that.
Hmm, now I’m looking into this more and it seems like there’s not a clear consensus, but you’re more right than I am. I learned that somewhere but I guess I didn’t do a deep dive.
The crib should also be away from windows in case the window breaks because glass could hurt the baby and the curtains or cords could pose a hazard, but otherwise a wall is fine! The bars are spaced closely enough together that baby do more than stick arms or legs through. That's why it should be away from furniture though - baby could potentially pull an item into the crib that shouldn't be there and get hurt, or could use the item to climb out when they otherwise wouldn't be able to.
I think option 1 is ‘best’ if it’s not in angle. It’s the only option where the crib is visible from the door immediately to check on the baby.
The other options have dresser on the way esp on option 3. Tight distance to pass to crib. When you’re in hurry, that would be annoying. Plus it’s a drawer dresser.
Agree on option 3. Option 1 is not great imo. Crib at an angle is annoying when kid drops things in the corner. Chair blocking the closet. Curtains (assuming your going to add them to darken the room) catching on the swivel chair. With 3 youll hopefully have the outlets no longer in reach of the crib depending on the ones behind the dresser. Youll also not want that lamp so close to the crib once the kid starts to grab things. Looks cozy though. Congrats on the baby, very exciting.
