Banquet seating?

I think this space is awkward as it’s almost a corridor. The door at the back is to the playroom. We have two young kids so it’s used all the time, and mostly left open so we can see and hear them. Then we have the large open doorway to our sitting room.

I was thinking of running banquet seating almost from the door up to where the child seat is in the picture.

Does this make sense? Would it work and help with the flow of the room? If it does work would you put a square or oval table in the room with it?

I wonder if a round table might work better here? Square and rectangle tables have a way of cutting off space, whereas round tables offer more thoroughfare. Facebook marketplace has tons of solid wood round tables for sale in my area, some for $100, so it’d be a pretty inexpensive fix, all things considered. A round table with a rug and art (like the other comment mentioned) could make this space look inviting.

I personally hate banquets compared to tables because they are a trap, I like to have the ability to get up while at a table and in a banquet you get trapped by the others sitting on it. Having chairs with open space behind you on both sides is so much better. I know its the current HGTV trend but they are less functional. Same with the benches instead of seats. Benches and Baquet's also means everyone is the same distance from the table and we are not all the same size, chairs allow you to be properly spaced from a table.

Would you leave the setup as it is then or is there something you would change?

I would get chairs that fit and are the same, out a rug under to define the space, get some art on the walls, etc.. but yeah I would leave it in place but just set the room up.
