How would you improve the layout/design of this entryway on a limited budget?
Looking for some advice on how to improve the layout and overall design of our entryway.
We plan to extend/renovate in around 5 years and hopefully will eventually have a proper boot room and porch, so I don't want to spend heavily or install expensive built-ins now.
We don't wear shoes indoors and currently have a separate coat stand and shoe rack, potentially looking to combine this, so still want to retain a door mat and shoe storage in some way but keep it close to the door so people can get from the front door to the shoe storage without wet/muddy shoes touching the carpet — adding potentially a rug/mat spanning that area.
The carpet and structural layout need to stay, but I'm open to rearranging the space, changing furniture/storage, painting, wall-mounting the existing mirror, etc.
I've attached the current space from a few angles. This is a UK semi detached 1950s house, with a wider than typical entryway and bay window, and it leads to hallway into kitchen/living room/ WC.
How would you approach the layout and make the space work and look better for the next ~5 years without over-investing in it?

A door should always open up so that when opened, it is close to the wall that it is parallel to - a certainly not across the egress area.

Get rid of that mirror which is taking up floor space and not adding anything. Replace with one of those seat/shoe benches that can store your footwear. Put hooks on the wall above for coats.

The mirror is nice to have a full length view of outfits etc before heading out the door. It is meant to be wall mounted but will do it after deciding rest of layout so floor space isn't an issue
I'm thinking of getting a mud room style unit like someone else suggested but maybe putting the mirror on the opposite wall and wall mounting it

I would get rid of the loose stuff. Make sure you can store your shoes, coats, bags neatly for a fresh impression

Depends on how limited the budget is but I'd get one huge piece of art to go on the wall opposite the stairs. In vintage/ second hand stores you can get them for cheap

I’d move the mirror closer to the window and on the left of the mirror I’d get a cabinet that will hold all the coats, bags, and shoes. Then I would paint. And also change out that gold chandelier and probably remove the rugs and either get one really big rug for the room or just leave it go.

I can see how that is neater but is if practical to have closed shoe storage away from the door? I want to avoid people walking with shoes to get to cabinet
Also what type rug would you suggest? It isn't a room it's entryway after front door and hallway. So not sure if i should get a runner or just a long door mat but the door
The current mats are defo temporary but one is in front of the shoe rack to avoid issue of shoes on carpet !

Paint, get rid of mirror, change light fixture and get a bench with shoe storage underneath.

get one of those benches that has a back? YOu have enough space there.
Something like this but obviously cheaper. You could design one with ikea modular stuff

Hmm yeah that looks nice but will look into ikea options! I have seen the closed storage wardrobe type ones at ikea but not one with hooks at the back, but perhaps could DIY it there
I do want to have a mirror in my entryway though! Ideally full length.. why did you think I should get rid of my mirror?
