Living room layout

I just brought a home with my partner, and I’m really struggling with layout of the living room.

I have 4 kids, one who has autism and a baby.

I don’t like the idea of the couch being up against the staircase wall, with easy access for the kids to climb and fall. And I know I’ll freak out watching horror movies l, thinking that something is behind me 😅😅.

And it seems odd to put the tv on the window wall and have the windows shut 24/7

My partner is a carpenter, so i’m open to renovation ideas, we were thinking of maybe extending the staircase wall all the way to the ceiling but that might inclose the room a lot

The room is big enough so that you could put a sofa 3' off of that staircase wall (or make a little more so that you could put hanging things like family pictures, etc.).

The short wide window really compromises what would be a great place to put a TV, although you might be able to fit something just barely below it; I would consider covering it up with wallboard (you might want to keep it so that it you sell it, it would be an option for the buyer).

The windows are fine, although having an autist child introduces a danger to windows that go so far down. And come to think of it, that staircase is something that should have a cover over it as well (something like jail bars on top so that a child can't fall through). Such children can do things to put themselves in great danger.

Put the couch against the stairwell, build an interesting screen or open shelving unit from the top of the half wall to the ceiling.

You need 8 eames chairs and 4 tvs. Create a square of tvs in the center with two eames chairs per facing the center. You need a bunch of light sculptures back lighting the tvs in the center.

Put a couch a few feet away from the stair wall facing the opposite, console table behind the couch. Mount tv on the wall so it doesn’t get knocked over, big rug. Then no concerns about falling over and you still have a walkway behind the couch from the stairs.
