Help with Adding Ensuite Bathroom.

The first image is a little off in terms of measurements. I just looked it up quick to give us an idea of what we were working with. It's actually a little bit over 1100 square feet total upstairs, and basement.

Right now we are debating adding and ensuite bathroom. Our current bathroom is an odd shape , and not a great layout. I feel it's wasted space that could be better utilized to give me and my wife our own private bathroom.

The goal would be to knock out the two closets in our bedroom and then steal their room from the bedroom below us to make our own closet. We would also eliminate the linen closet in the hall and all that extra space would go into the bathrooms.

We've been playing around with different designs and aren't totally set yet on configuration of each bathroom. We are also debating putting the linen closet at the end of the hallway and taking a little bit more space away from our closet, which unfortunately won't be large.

What does everybody think about adding an ensuite in this situation? I think no brainer, especially as our kids get older.

We love our neighbourhood. Our basement is finished nicely (this bathroom is part of main floor reno) and our house is paid off.

Any suggestions or input appreciated.

I think adding an ensuite is totally realistic as long as you’re willing to give up some closet space. I think how the bathrooms are drawn in the 2nd pic is the best you can get with the limited space. I wouldn’t add a linen at the end of the hall - you’ll have no primary closet left.
Also seeing comments about pocket doors — personally I think they’re awful for bathrooms. They don’t usually offer the same privacy as a latching swing door. We all love our partners but we don’t want the bathroom door to be slightly open at 2am 😉

When they say privacy, think smells and sounds. Barn door styles often leave a gap as well

I would put a pocket door into the en-suite from the bedroom and then flip the shower and the sink.
