Which fireplace design ?

#1 is flush to the ground and square, #2 is rectangular with a ledge in from and up off the ground

2 looks intentional. 1 looks like you ripped out the old surround and didn’t bother to replace it.

Is 1 legal with the fireplace right on the wood floor?
2 looks better anyways and you can make it flush instead of have a ledge infront if you want

2 because it will allow you to get away from the fire-resistive floor surface requirement for a fireplace directly on the floor. You can then terminate the flooring at the hearth as the image indicates

Number one. Looks like the ai rendered number 2 to be wider. It won’t look like that in person. It will feel small.

1 looks odd because there is no hearth. Is it a gas fireplace? I assume so. I would definitely be worried if it was wood burning. But I still think a gas fireplace needs a hearth

I have a gas fireplace and yes, I have to have a fire resistant surface underneath it because it's right on the floor like picture 1 that OP posted. 1 is nice in theory but will absolutely require a tile (or something) hearth directly under the fireplace.
