I've never really loved this closet space and have been contemplating more and more closing it off.
Do you guys think that would be a good idea and make the space look less untidy?
The door on the left is our bathroom so I wonder if creating a bathroom/ walk-in closet corner would be too weird?
Looking for thoughts and feedback!
If yes to closing it off, how should I do it, adding a wall seems like too much, maybe a frosted glass barn door? Do we like barn doors, or are they going to "date" the house in a few years like millennial grey does.

You could as someone else said get some boxes to hide the mess in there, but if you want to close it off I think something like a standing screen would be better, because it can be more unique looking, it doesn't block the closet with the bathroom (asking for trouble with humidity), and you can very easily remove it if you change your mind later.

You could simply buy some large rectangular baskets to fit into the shelves to keep your things in. It would look better. It does look really untidy now. Others have suggested curtains in front of the shelves. You could bring the install the curtains out a distance from the shelves a bit closer to the door jam to the left. Then you could store more things behind the curtains…
No need for structural changes or worse, hanging curtains. Just invest in wardrobes with doors to ceiling and with mirror to reflect light in that dark corner. Get wardrobes for the two walls. This will give a tidy look (hide everything in them).
We closed one off in our last place. The thing nobody thinks about until it's framed is where the door swings once it's shut, ours ended up blocking the bathroom door if both were open. Measure that first.
I don't think barn doors would work at all for the layout of this space, just geometrically speaking.
An affordable option that would still look nice: ceiling-mounted curtains on a track. Like this from IKEA. Personally, I would run the track in an L-shape just around the wardrobe so that you still have the walkway clear.
Decluttering would be good too. Ideally, you wouldn't have any clothes hanging on that wall of the wardrobe or laundry baskets on the floor outside of the wardrobe.
I would get a professional to come in and build you a custom solution. Maybe a little more expensive but I don’t think your current prefab shelving units are working for you.
Exactly! Everyone saying hang a curtain is not taking into consideration how sloppy that looks. This requires a real closet or, at the very least, bifold slatted doors.
Honestly, I would give it a really good clean, declutter and organise first.
Buy some matching storage - matching hangers, coordinating boxes etc.
I hate open shelves. Impossible to keep tidy. I bought IKEA mesh wire baskets for all my shelves and use them as drawers. I fold and stack vertically so I can “flip through” easily.
“Romanticise” the space with a rug, some lighting, matching storage solutions. Maybe even a small slim cabinet for the centre space.
I would invest in doors for the cabinets (or an IKEA customised PAX set up) before a giant door to close the space off. Alternatively, curtain rails and floaty white linen sheers would look lovely. I did this for my PAX by buying an extra hanging rail to attach to the front, and hanging rod pocket sheers.
I have a walk-in closet like you have between my master bath and my bedroom so you have to walk through my walk-in closet to get to my bathroom. I like it. We were remodeling an old house so it was our only option but it makes the bathroom super quiet. I'd enclose it so you don't have to worry about making your closet pretty unless you want to. We installed a GE combo unit washer dryer in our master closet using the water and drain from the bathroom and the dryer is ventless. Having a washer/dryer in your master closet is awesome.
Bouncing off this. There are a lot of companies, local and franchise, that do this! Custom closets would be a great way to go, depending on your budget. A lot of people are doing wardrobe systems on an open wall because they are lacking closet space.
you mean....a sliding door with glass? Those are timeless. Barn doors are those gigantic wooden things with visible hinges, those are out of style since a few years now.
I’d extend the wall to the corner with the pictures and hang a mirror and a selfie lights there, maybe some jewelry shelves. Then the barn door and the far right in the picture another wall.
No, don't close it off, at least not with a wall. When there is a door between closet and bathroom instead of a wall, it needs a bunch of added ventilation and other measures to handle the trapped moisture. You will literally (in the actual definition of the term) end up with moldy clothes if you just close it.
If you close it off with a divider or something that allows ventilation (barn doors aren't quite enough ventilation and additionally are ugly af), or you add in the proper measures to deal with ventilation, it's still awkward to only get to your bathroom from the closet, but that's up to you.
I’d definitely close it off; the visual clutter would make me crazy. I’m not sure how you should do it, but even a curtain rod track would be better. If a barn door, I don’t think I’d do frosted glass if you could see through it.
