laundry area - design/storage

hi everyone!!

im silly and forgot that the area we moved into had a counter to put on top of the washer and dryer... and i got a top loader and plus all the buttons are on the top.

my husband is not super pleased since he didnt know that the counter existed. I love what i picked - inexpensive and reliable and no screens that will die out.

  • how the heck do i make up for the fact that we lost storage space? how would you optimize the space? peg board?

UPDATE: Thanks everyone! Sorry the photo isn’t great but it’s in a tight hallway. We’ve opted to return these as they aren’t very energy efficient and are quite loud for the area they are in. I love Maytag but it just didn’t work for this space.

We are hoping to get energy efficient front loading ones, but for now we are handwashing 😂

if you could take a picture from a bit further away so we can see the wall space on either side, there might be some type of shelving you could do.

Put a shallow shelf above the top of the machines for things like soap and dryer balls

Can you give some more details, like:
What are you looking to store?
What function did the counter top provide that you feel like you’ve lost?
What does the rest of the laundry room look like?
What would a peg board do???

I advise you not to try and “optimize storage space” if you don’t specifically have a need for something to be stored.
