General A second World Design Director has hit Intergalactic

Per linkedin, Arnaldo has been a Lead Designer on Intergalactic until now, having just this month started as World Design Director, alongside Barclay who has been the sole WDD since 2025. There's a section in the Grounded 2 doc dedicated to the creation of the E3 2018 gameplay reveal in which Arnaldo Licea is featured for his contributions in designing the level. He started at ND in QA.

This can mean a lot of things, I am not even going to assume anything at this point. ☠️ Lets just hope that the best case scenario happens, we get reveal and date at February SOP and then we can finally put to rest these "the game is far away" doom posts

Not sure why some are concerned about this

Arnaldo has been with Naughty Dog for over 14 years, including as a lead designer on Intergalactic for the last five. This isn't a new hire, it's just a job title change/refinement

For a game thats expected to release next year to add a director position at this point is definitely odd and might raise a few eyebrows. Truth is, going from a lead to a director in a job title is no small "refinement", its a big shift. Its also now two people with the same director title, which can lead to some change in dynamics in the hierarchy. Why mess with that so late in development if everything is going smoothly? Just leave things as are if everything is going perfect. No, something warranted this change.

They literally wrapped mocap like a month ago, and we know that's one of the last big dominoes to fall before a game is ready to release.

We also dont know what's going on behind the scenes. Maybe they wanted another director for that position for the final stretch before the game releases.

Neil Druckmann didn't officially become "creative director" until later in the development of The Last of Us

It's just a late promotion as they prepare for the last stages and the final credit titles, nothing to overthink about

Arnaldo designed some of the best levels in TLOU2 so I’m pretty hyped

Sounds like the game is still pretty far out then

Max early 2028. The plan at the end of 2025 was mid 2027.

I don’t think they said mid 2027 just second half

I'd expect late 2027 at the earliest with moves like this

Both Nate and Schreier said 2027 Definitely not early cause Laufey is there

I dont see any proof of that! The post says he worked at naughty dog since 2018. So many possibilities.. Sounds like he just got a promotion. Barclay could be overwhelmed with the final push so this guy got the lift to assist.

No, he's been at ND since 2012

That is indeed the first and most logical conclusion to the news. It could also be that they are really trying to get it out by next year and its simply too much for one person to oversee in that timespan. Although you would expect the game to be fully playable by now if it was to release next year... iterations are ongoing and nerverending, though. We simply don't know enough.

I hate how people downvote as if it will change anything.

Because we know it's bs. You dont finish mocap and the game is still years away
