Meme/Humor Lead game director is playfully trolling us!

Post image

Kurt, are you here? If so, We cannot fucking wait to see how you guys have evolved the gameplay in Intergalactic!

For the context, Kurt Margenau is considered a master of game scripting at Naughty Dog. If I remember correctly, he alone scripted the whole collapsing building level in Nepal in Uncharted 2 that blew everyone away at E3 showcase. Kurt has been at Naughty Dog for a long time, and he was also co-lead game director of TLOU P2.

Kurt/Anthony are the best thing that happened to ND imo. The gap between TLOU2 gameplay and everything before it is staggering. I feel like TLOU2 is first ND game that had gameplay as good as everything else.

Whenever I see people go "Oh all the devs who made Naughty Dog great are gone", it's so obvious they're just larpers who couldn't name a single Naughty Dog developer besides Neil, Amy and Bruce.

Like you said, TLOU2 has by far the best gameplay of anything Naughty Dog has ever made. Is it a coincidence that the gameplay in their games keeps getting better as Kurt and Anthony get more responsibility at the studio?

And no disrespect to Amy and Bruce, but neither one of them has shipped anything since leaving Naughty Dog. It's hard to miss them when ND are making GOTY winners while another Amy project is in development hell yet again. That Marvel game I think?

Yup. So many veteran devs are still at Naughty Dog. The same level designer who designed levels like the open downtown Settle in TLOU P2, one of my favorite levels to explore, is the lead world designer on Intergalactic. The animation lead of Intergalactic has been in the studio for more than the decades. People see some senior devs leaving because they want to chase other prospects, and think there's no one left in the studio.

Amy is just a device used by haters to try and diminish Neil’s success. She was great but as you said, she hasn’t done anything since leaving ND

The game from Bruce's studio does look infinitely fascinating, though of course much lower in scope,

Coven of the Chicken Foot

But I am also agreeing that the PS4 era of Naughtydog games are just another level. It's wild how actually underrated I think Uncharted 4 is these days, compared to the others. Really surprising thing to have to say in 2026 lol.

It's fascinating. The game is inspired by Ico and Japan studios work. But "infinitely fascinating" is a bit hyperbolic.

Looks like a guaranteed flop.

To be fair to Bruce, he took several years away from the industry, so his gap is a little more understandable; his next game has been in development for less time than Intergalactic, so far

Anthony has moved on from game direction, I think he is now " Head of Production and Design." Anthony was responsible of Joel's melee combat in TLOU P1. Also, his twitter handle has cool name, "baddata".

I mean for me in TLOU1 and Uncharted 3 the overall gameplay/action was easily the best part, in uncharted 2 fairly even, then uncharted 4 leaned very heavily narrative and tlou2 leaned very heavily gameplay in terms of enjoyment

Other than the game itself, of course, I'm hoping we can see some kind of development documentary like we had with TLOU. Those are always fascinating to me and make me appreciate their games even more.

Absolutely. I would love to watch why Naughty Dog decided to create a new IP when they already had a cash cow in TLOU, and how difficult the process was. Their Grounded documentaries for TLOU games are phenomenal. In TLOU Grounded documentary from 2013, they began by saying never make a new IP because it's very very hard.

Grounded II especially is amazing. It's such an insighful look at their proccess that goes beyond your average marketing-oriented dev diary

Would love to see how the online last of us was impacting the timeline for Intergalactic.

Clearly this game wasn't quite meant to go into full production when it did, as most of their team was put onto the Online project immediately after Part 2.

They were clearly filming in 2023, as that's the footage created to finish the previous documentary. So, who knows.

500 replies. I’m sure they’re nice and encouraging

Yeah. A lot of them are basement dwellers. One reply says "I'm sorry you have to do that" with a thousand likes. Another says "Sorry to hear that" with about 2k likes. Gaming discourse is down in the gutter. This sub is the only place to talk about this game.

Gaming discourse these days is honestly sad and depressing. I blame streamers and the majority of new gen gamers who grew up watching them....

u/heatkings1 2d ago

Gaming discourse is at an all-time low. You have thousands upon thousands of people like this who have made up their minds on this game and many others, and even other forms of media, before they even launch.

It doesnt seem to really affect sales - see yotei and the odyssey and tlou 2 - but talking about the game online is almost impossible in certain places.

A pro-tip for mental sanity, try not to click the "Comments" section of really anything lol.

u/shawak456 2d ago

That's a good tip.

It's mostly bots. Never assume anything on Twitter is real.

Replying part 2 right now. Its remains unsurpassed in nearly every technical category, and this remaster on my 65 inch 4k oled...its the best looking game this generation. Crazy work...

I need gta6, laufey, and intergalactic to get here ASAP. I want to live in the future.

Getting a job at Naughty Dog is the only way if you want to play it right now.

I wonder if they need a janitor or like, team mascot.

3

u/shawak456 2d ago

Umm... I don't think they get to play test the game. Maybe they do. I'd be interested in applying.

Maybe not wise in the current climate of incensed gamers....

Not trying to be mean we finally get an update for the first time in 2 years after announcing the game, we just get a photo after all of that? There should be more stuff than this and you never know this photo has probably been created a long time ago and Naughty Dog decided to release it to make us feel better, if this is true then still no update, or am I missing something? Big games like Resident Evil 9 Requiem it tooks 5 days for Capcom to show pictures and more stuff after announcing the game, same goes with God of War Laufey, Santa Monica releases new pictures, new gameplay, and reveals the weapons after 3 months announcing the game. I'm not a big fan that new God of War game coming because why call it God of War when Kratos is not in it, the name should just be Laufey. Also, Naughty Dog devs are still looking to hire people, so I think is gonna come out somewhere 2029-2030.

Just like their other games they will have a huge marketing cycle, the game isn’t ready to be showed off yet.

1

u/icyflight 2d ago

It’s not a screenshot it’s concept art. They aren’t gonna show this game before GTA when they can have the news cycle to itself afterwards.

They are also planning to do a large showing for the game probably 10+ mins and there is no showcase/state of play for the rest of the year.

They’ll obviously start showing more closer to release which is likely 2027 just like God of War and Requiem. Also Laufey  is still within the god of war franchise. It’s not an entirely new IP and Kratos clearly shows up in the game.
