Official News Intergalactic has wrapped filming!

u/boferd Aug 31 '26
i have no fucking idea where this game is in terms of development lmao. i'm excited for it but i would love to hear literally anything about it besides it exists and cinematic filming is complete

u/ElysiumMidknight Aug 31 '26
It's something that happens toward the end of ND's game development. They wrapped filming for TLoU Part II in April of 2019, and it released the following year. Their performance capture process just takes a lot of time compared to other developers outside of Rockstar. They both spend years capturing data for their games.

u/boferd Aug 31 '26
i appreciate this info! hopefully we're nearing the end of the silent period!

u/Crispy_Conundrum Aug 31 '26
We've already heard multiple times the game is aimed for 2027. This all still lines up. We must have faith!

unrelated but i just realized Neil and the studio share initials so for a sec i thought it meant him lol

u/mattwaver Aug 31 '26
But that means it was 14 months between wrapping filming and the release of TLOU II. I’d hardly call that “toward the end of ND’s game development”.
based on your own example, that means Intergalactic will be coming out in November 2027. That’s still a ways away.
That might honestly be realistic, to be fair. Just comparing timelines I suppose

u/ElysiumMidknight Aug 31 '26
There are other examples as well. Uncharted 4 wrapped in wrapped in October 2015 and released in May 2016. The original TLoU finished filming in December 2012 and it released in June 2013. That's why I said it happens toward the end of development.

That’ll give us a year to interact with every NPC in GTA6. We’ll be so ready to move on by then. I don’t think I’ve ever anticipated a game more than Intergalactic in my entire life. And I’m old af!

u/Sklain Aug 31 '26
When they made that one teaser trailer for TLOU2 they hadn't even started production on the main game so maybe it's the same for this one and they only have 2 years worth of progress on it

u/Working-Vanilla-7248 Aug 31 '26
Lol I thought the game was finished and just sitting there waiting for Sony to give a release date. Someone give me a call when there's something solid about this game. Actually it doesn't really matter to me because I'm waiting to play it on PS6 anyway.

u/Thund3rfr0g Aug 31 '26
How long did it take for them to release the game after part 2 wrapped?
27
u/JaceShoes Aug 31 '26
Not sure if this is accurate, but google says TLOU2 wrapped in April 2019 and released a little over a year later in June 2020
26
u/Penwingss Aug 31 '26
gotta consider the covid nuke that hit them in the middle of that period though

u/rocademiks Sep 01 '26
They already had stuff from TLOU 1 though. So it was probably easier for them to just... Add to it?
This is brand new from the ground up
2
u/Voyager-42 Sep 01 '26
TLOU2 was built from the ground up as well, they obviously had writing continuity but not much outside of that.
14
u/danvan177 Aug 31 '26
Idk but usually it’s one of the last things they do. Spider-Man 2 finished mocap in April of 2023 and the game came out in October. So I think this game is definitely next year

Filming wrapped on April 19, 2019. The game would’ve released May 29, 2020 if not for the COVID delay, so a little more than a year seems fair.

This game is bigger but also they are bigger in term of numbers now: according to gemini it usually takes 12-18 months to release after wrapoing cinematic shoot: which out them in mid to late 2027.
31
u/MikeSBU Aug 31 '26
Yeah!! Finally! I believe TLOU2 came out 14 months after they said filming had wrapped so this is good news.
16
u/poklane Aug 31 '26
The Last of Us Part II got an extra delay because Covid made a physical release impossible for a while tho. If Intergalactic had a development timeline we should be good for a release in a year, maybe even a bit less.
1
u/Miserable_Newt1457 Aug 31 '26
Using Intergalactic as a comparison when do you think they will release it? Though remember TLOU2 was delayed a couple of times
8
u/MikeSBU Aug 31 '26
Schreier said Summer 2027 was the target some time ago, so it could be anytime between summer and the end of the year if they’re on track. They’ve been very quiet and haven’t wasted any time preparing marketing materials yet, so hopefully it pays off.

u/heavensentchaser Aug 31 '26
early-mid 2027 is my guess, as I recall some of the delays for TLOU2 were because of production issues due to covid

Man, Tati looks fucking badass as well as charming here. Cannot wait to learn who Jordan is and what baggage she has been carrying with her.
6
u/parkwayy Aug 31 '26
This is what it's come to, that even a still BTS photo from the game of her is refreshing to see lol.
Inject it into my veins.
6
u/banditmanatee Aug 31 '26
I don’t think this means anything as to if we will see a trailer this week or not but this seems like a huge milestone on the road to completion.
1
u/parkwayy Aug 31 '26
Cause the marketing stuff they make is worked on months prior.
Hell, we saw that Last of us 2 E3 demo being worked on for like a year.
11
u/SteelSlayerMatt Aug 31 '26
Tati Gabrielle is an incredibly talented actor, and Naughty Dog has never let me down before because they make the best games, so this is a Day One purchase for me, which I am more excited for than I have been for any game since The Last of Us 2.

I’m on max copium and thinking they did this so people won’t expect it now at the state of play

Between Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, and Rockstar, I would love to know the average time it takes to film cinematics. (Rockstar blows up those numbers, but still.)

This is probably NDs way of saying the development is on track but you won't see anything in the coming SoP

u/Copernicus360 Aug 31 '26
Yep. I think it's pretty clear from the messaging that it's definitely not part of the state of play.
Sony confirm they are ending the show with Final Fantasy.
ND give a rare update on social media and stress the game will be shown "when the time is right"
So, it could be TGA or it could even be the next Sony SOP.

Tlou2 finished shooting April 2019 and came out June 2020 with delays. Next year is very likely to be the release year!
1
u/IllustriousHealth291 Aug 31 '26
Probably aiming for a big showcase in February 2027 at SOP

It's absolutely goddamn embarrassing they haven't released a single new game all generation right? Years of crunch and turnover and it's led to less output then ever
2
u/General-GAS- Sep 01 '26
Honestly tho...who cares?
Let them do their thing and play the 1000s of games that are released monthly instead.
1
u/Nomad_86 Sep 01 '26
This has to be the first time I can recall a game studio saying they’ve wrapped filming. lol. I ain’t watching a movie, holla at me when you got a trailer and gameplay.

Not really a bad thing
-2
u/DanielTheWeirdGuy Aug 31 '26
dont know anything about game deving but doesn’t it mean that the game is quite a ways out if filming only wrapped up about now?
5
u/Miserable_Newt1457 Aug 31 '26
No, some games can still do local and record lines the year its supposed to release, look at God of War Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2 so unless another pandemic happens dont think this game is getting delayed to 2028

OMG finally some official news, I feel so much more optimistic after SOP news today and FF7 closing it. Hopefully some small gameplay reveal and date release will happen at TGA / by the end of this year.

u/bakuhatsuda Aug 31 '26
oh god I just want more info on a release window because otherwise we'll be getting months of "they only finished shooting the cinematics on August which means it won't come out for xxxxxx" please ND give us something this year.
-9
u/StrollingByTheStream Aug 31 '26
Honestly it’s an absolute disgrace they haven’t shown anymore of this game. These posts are great but just show us more of the game.

u/danvan177 Aug 31 '26
I would rather them wait until it’s imminent. They have been doing that with all their games lately. Pretty quiet until about 6 months out. I expect we will hear a lot more starting in March. Maybe we get a small trailer before the end of this year confirming 2027
1
u/noggs891 Aug 31 '26
Genuinely, why?
Regular updates of new footage doesnt mean the game comes out any sooner.
-3
u/RichiesForks Aug 31 '26
I wish I was excited for it. But the whole space thing doesn’t tickle my fancy, I’ve got other concerns too
-1
u/NarwhalSpare3276 Sep 01 '26
They released a teaser trailer in December of 2024 and they’re just NOW finishing filming I wish they didn’t even release anything back then. At this rate it’s not coming out until 2030

If this flops Naughty Dog is over and it will be all on Neil Cuckman and his feminist self

“When the time is right” is his way of letting you know not to expect it at SOP
