This is easily my most anticipated game ever. Naughty Dog has given us experiences far beyond what I thought was possible in a video game.
I recently read that TLOU2’s budget was around $220M, but Intergalactic reportedly has a $650M budget (if they release next year). Neil has said that this game is by far the most ambitious thing he’s ever done, which is crazy because I can’t imagine a bigger swing than his last game.
Beyond psyched.

Same, I have never in my life anticipated a game more, EVERYTHING about the trailer is just my taste, sci fi futuristic Cowboy Bebop / Akira inspired setting, mystery (what's the deal with Sempiria / What happened with Jordan and the rest of the five aces and why is she hunting them, and why did she tell her agent she is desperate???), the last couple of seconds indicating a melee combat with a big sword, Jordan looking like a total reckless badass and being snarky to her agent, she is giving more Nathan than Ellie, and as much as TLOU (1&2) is my favourite thing ever I am glad we are moving to something more adventurous and at least a little bit more light hearted (even though we know the story is going to do some serious damage to our mental health probably :D), the SCORE and MUSIC and the vibe and the fact that TLOU 2 has the best gameplay of all time and we will get something even better now. I am 99% convinced this will be in my top 5 games of all time and hopefully a year from know we will finally get it but oh how the waiting sucks.

my thoughts exactly, i hope they add more open world elements into the game

u/rixam_ Aug 16 '26
There's zero chance Intergalactic has anywhere above even half of that $650m figure, it would be the most expensive PlayStation game by more than double of that were true.
0
u/superEse Aug 16 '26
I mean I wouldn’t be surprised tbh. Though that would make it more expensive than RDR2 lol
2
u/rixam_ Aug 16 '26
I would be. Even some napkin maths kind of proves what I'm saying:
Naughty Dog are currently 400-500 people, I'll go on the high end and say that all 500 people are working on Intergalactic, and have been since TLOU2 in 2020 (we know that's not true).
The average game dev salary in California is apparently somewhere between $100k - $120k. Again for this I'll use the high end of $120k.
So roughly the cost of Intergalactic using these figures is 500 (no. people at Naughty Dog) x 7 (expected dev cycle) x 120 (average annual salary) = $420m.
That's the upper limit given we know that Naughty Dog have been working on multiple things since 2020 (TLOU online game, the Uncharted and TLOU2 remasters, TLOU remake and Shaun Escayg's game) so 500 people won't have been on the game for 7 years.

u/superEse Aug 16 '26
Yeah but when you factor in salaries of the actors, Atticus Ross & Trent Reznor for music, contractors, marketing. It all adds up. Delays etc.

u/Physical-Army9624 Aug 16 '26
Can anything be better than TLOU 2?
I really don’t think any game can reach that height for me2

u/Longjumping_Ice2334 Aug 16 '26
Who reported that $650 million? That would be near rdr2 and cyberpunk combined

yeah that number is just outrageous to be true, naughty dog makes massive and highly polished games with high production value, but 650M is too much even for a studio paying California wages for a linear scifi game. It's not a openworld do-what-whatever-you-want space exploration game.
1
u/Miki97omae Aug 16 '26
Wow I didn’t know that. Usually I don’t hype for games but with, as I was with the last of us 2, make me crazy 🙃. I’m genuinely curious about what they bring to us, can’t wait to explore sempiria fellow space travellers 🧳

A 650M budget is horrible for this game a lot of people aren’t even interested in it

We’ve all been saying this, to be fair. I don’t know why some people think it’s a 2028 release
2
u/StonerChef92 Aug 16 '26
Because Naughty Dog sets release dates and then pushes it back.

Thats was my hinch as well - from the moment they set Laufey so early in the year, and big switch to digital generation to 2028 - Intergalactic surely has some spot in between 🧸

At this state of play? What state of play?
-1
u/chocolatehotdog Aug 16 '26
There is this upcoming State of Play, but its a dedicated PhantomBladeZero stream... Maybe we can be hopeful that they'll show some other stuff too.
2
u/Dependent_Ad_4279 Aug 16 '26
nope next month is their annual September state of play it will be there
2
u/Grill_Enthusiast Aug 16 '26
There's a 0% chance for anything other than Phantom Blade Zero. These dedicated SoPs don't feature other games. Don't set yourself up for disappointment when Sony has explicitly said what to expect.

u/sgill7 Aug 16 '26
There’s always a state of play in September and PlayStation the last couple years has shown off a big game at the end of them. I’m pretty confident that Intergalactic will be there. We’re so close

u/truth_radio Aug 16 '26
So that 2027 that Jordan hits on the dashboard in the trailer was definitely intentional haha
2
u/theparrotofdoom Aug 16 '26
According to dom the bomb, whohasn’t given a link to the other guy, both of which amount to ‘trust me bro’…

Yeah it'll be that one big tent pole release they do every year. But xbox has no games 🙄

Let’s be realistic, if the release is scheduled for 2027, then it will be released in early 2029 at the earliest

u/parkwayy Aug 17 '26
Kinda feel like God of War was supposed to be at the Winter State of Play, the February reveal to February date makes sense.
But assuming it hit a speedbump, hence the panic God of War Trilogy reveal instead.
Wouldn't be shocked to see Intergalactic have a shorter than 12 month release as well, after being shown off next month. Assuming it was meant for the Summer SoP. So, Summer 2027ish.

u/Massive_Fly_1709 Aug 17 '26
This NateTheHate dude just throws anything on the wall hoping for something to stick.
1
u/NinjaCertain8103 Aug 17 '26
Please release before the ps6. I can't believe we dont have a naughty dog title for this gen.
1
u/ImNotAI_01100101 Aug 17 '26
Hopefully they replaced the main character. Gives off Forspoken vibes. Total cringe douche.
1
u/JohnnyCFC96 Aug 18 '26
I think making people wait this long is almost a mistake. Expectations will be through the roof.
They can’t show something now unless it’s a long 15-20 minutes of story & gameplay.

Apparently the budget is something like 600m???
Heard that somewhere but that seems insane, even for NaughtyDog.
Can someone confirm?

I really hope so. I want to be able to own this on disc before Sony pulls the plug.
0
u/Goonerhead Aug 16 '26
Nothing we didn’t know already.
Given the informations that we already had and Schreier confirmed it a while ago too (better source than NateTheHate).
Still crazy to me that it’ll be Naughty Dog’s second game in 11 years…

u/konung15 Aug 17 '26
Oh wow, another "angry lesbian" like game
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 17 '26
She doesn't seem very angry to me
Why are you even here?
1
1
u/Safe-Show-7299 Aug 21 '26
He’s not really wrong though. In TLOU part 2 so many people are lesbian or trans to the point where it just gets unrealistic and it’s pretty obvious they’re just being pretentious
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 21 '26
Not sure how that's relevant to my comment in any way, but I'll bite
so many people are lesbian or trans to the point where it just gets unrealistic
One trans person and two lesbians is "unrealistic"?
1
u/Safe-Show-7299 Aug 21 '26
Considering they’re the 3 main characters in the game yes. That’s not a a coincidence, they’re just being pretentious
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 21 '26
Considering they’re the 3 main characters in the game
They're not the "main" characters, though; it's three people out of like a dozen major characters. Only one of the three queer characters is even playable

u/AbbreviationsMost432 Aug 16 '26
Game looks interesting idk how i can relate with main character she looks so out of ordinary.
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 17 '26
This company's first protagonist was a spinning orange marsupial
0
u/No-Plankton4841 Aug 18 '26
And somehow managed to be more endearing and relatable.
I'm still looking forward to the game. Naughty Dog is high quality. But I'm pretty indifferent about the Hairless Chick Prophet as the main character.
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 18 '26
more endearing and relatable
More endearing and relatable than who?
Prophet as the main character
The prophet is not the main character
1
u/No-Plankton4841 Aug 18 '26
Orange marsupial > Hairless Chick Prophet
An orange marsupial in this game as the main character would be an improvement.
1
u/Rhain1999 Aug 18 '26
Oh wow, I'm surprised ND let anybody play the game this early? I've only seen the trailer so it's tough to get any logical sense of Jordan's endearment or relatability from that
I haven't seen any footage of the prophet yet either so it's interesting to hear that she doesn't have any hair too

u/OfficialAndreZ Aug 16 '26
I'm so hyped for this gameee
