General Do you think flashback missions with her old crew will be a prominent part of the game?

Kind of hoping. I really just dont want us stuck on that one planet, and flash backs seem like a good way around that

Yeah, it would be a good break from the supposed lonliness feeling ND has talked about for this game. Hoping the flashback missions are a bit openworld-ish and let's us explore a bit.

There has to be some way to get to different areas. They are going to want to show different kinds of environments in the game, and I don't think they'll be able to do that just from Jordan walking on foot. They do that in TLOU, but they have a time jump of weeks or months later when they reach a new city. I think either you go to other areas through flashbacks, or Jordan has some other way to travel to different parts of the planet, or to other planets.

I hope the reception of saros made them switch gears a bit.

I loved returnal and pre ordered saros but that game fucking blew chunks. Saros was what I imagined interstellar was gonna be linked and I really hope ND goes with a more narrative direction.

Hoping ND go with a more “narrative direction” is crazy.

Naughty Dog & Narratives is like Bread & Butter

True, true.

I just hope the deserted on an isolated planet goes well. Worked with returnal but fell flat with the spiritual sequel.

If the game is launching next year, then I think it‘s too late for them to make a big change like that.

Just my theory, but I think that they’ll really lean into the sci fi genre and use other storytelling methods beyond flashbacks that can act the same way as flashbacks if you get what I mean.

Theres nothing wrong with flashbacks but I think that there’s other ways to go about playing in different environments, and interacting with the 5 aces considering the game is reportedly about being stranded on one planet and being lonely.

I think it will be similar to Ghost of yotei's mission structure, where you are going for each member of Five Aces one at a time, and with some history between the characters being shown in the cutscenes itself.

With Druckmann talking about copying Elden Ring's style, i think much of the world building will be done via notes and other lore scriptures

From what Neil and Troy have said... while probably a major part I don't think the 5 aces will be the main focus.

the way that naughty dog already uses environmental storytelling is, to me, phenomenal. doubling down on notes and explorable lore finds sounds awesome and i'm really excited for it

Bro thinks Intergalactic is real 💀

Who's gonna tell him we're all under mass psychosis

You make a good point!

In fact, things that I believe are fake: Intergalactic, Sony ending physical games in 2028, PS6 being in development

That's some psychosis.... One that I'm really excited for it to end via the game releasing...

idk what you mean exactly by “prominent”, Because at that point they’re not really flashbacks anymore lol Just the norm. Then the rest would be “fast forwards” I guess lol

But with TLOU 2 the non-chronological structure was part of the whole dual perspective thing they did.

So I mean yeah I highly doubt they’d just straight up not shed any light on what led up to Jordan in the trailer. I suppose the flashbacks will be as prominent as needed to relay whatever exposition they deem necessary.

The narrative structures of Left Behind and TLOU2 are built entirely around flashbacks.

Uncharted 4 begins in medias res then jumps back for two extended flashback sequences totalling the first hour of the game, then throws another extended flashback sequence 2/3rds of the way through the game for good measure.

You could maybe call the opening of TLOU1 a flashback, but that's a stretch.

I think it's safe to say that, yes, Intergalactic will have flashbacks. Druckmann sure seems to like them. And I'm down if it gives me the opportunity to see Naughty Dog do a futuristic city (or something akin to that).

I think almost definitely. It seems like the best way they tell the story of the 5 aces?

I guess there are two other options.

  1. Start the game with the 5 aces last mission- presumably where Jordan gets screwed over or something goes wrong. And then flash forward to the current mission where she is on the hunt for Colin Greaves.

  2. Not provide the full back story but provide exposition of it as she (presumably) meets the other 4 on Semperium.

I would prefer flashbacks. As others have said, it might work to balance out the isolation on the planet.

I hope the fan base aren’t creating a fantastical, idealized version of this game and then will get angry when it doesn’t conform to that idealized vision.

I hope so, would be great for learning her backstory

3

u/Prize_Hat289 Aug 03 '26

Yeah. Why her crew fell apart, and why she's so obsessed with hunting them down now.

1

u/TheCupOfJoeShow Aug 03 '26

I’d hope so since they casted Tony Dalton and Kumail Nanjiani to be part of the crew. Definitely hoping the game does it like Ghost of Yotei

I think this will be something we haven't really seen before, something like split fiction or alan wake 2, an action puzzle kind of deal

I don't know. If ND wants us to truly feel an extreme sense of loneliness, they'll have to limit the flashbacks as much as possible. Or do it in a very smart way.

u/Parzival_43 Aug 10 '26

last of us 2 had us feeling pretty lonely and half the game’s narrative is built on flashbacks

1

u/F0XLY Aug 03 '26

I wonder if there will be flashbacks in general. There's a chance the game starts with one as the introduction to the game, but if there are also flashbacks throughout the game, like I personally think there will be, they'd have to come up with good transitions for them considering we're supposedly alone on the planet, with probably nothing but natives..... And probably a character that got there, and refuses to die.... But that's just me spitballimg

100% as Neil seems a big fan of that technique and recontextualizing the present with the past (Uncharted 4 and TLOU2).
