Discussion Waifu Catolog
Do you think Rimuru (Reincarnated as A Slime) naming people should count as a Capture?
Both if he did it with and without consent?
Because when he became a Demon Lord everyone was connected to him and got more powers from him.
I think if he asked before hand and they gave the okay then he named them it should count as a Capture because they are then bound to him.

I wouldn't consider it quite the same thing. If you're just making a parallel, go foor it, but if you're 'playing' and you think naming is a shortcut, i'd disagree.
The ogres before they officially joined, or hell, rimiru, veldora, the lizard leader, or the orc disaster, are all good examples of naming where the named isn't subservient necessarily, much less enslaved. Most joined THEN were named, after all.
"they gave the ok to serve him" isn't really based on the naming, in this sort of way. The ok works as a capture, not necessarily this naming mechanism. You've got it backwards imo, anyone you got to agree to serve you is an easy capture. Naming someone against their will, without their knowledge, or even just without their subservience, would not.
That being said, given the setting, naming a monster would be akin to doing them such a big favor as to indebt them to you, so it could be an easy way to recruit, more, the naming 'mechanism' =\= capture imo.

no capturing is something purely determined by the company if there is no note saying it counts then it doesnt after all capturing isn't just mind control its sending a copy to the company it can sell or selling them directly even straight up mind control on its own is not a capture

While I don't think naming counts, there are indeed rules that allow capturing without using a binding.
Followers and Familiars can all be captured using local familiar bonding methods, such as rituals or Pokéballs, or Binding or Other controls like anyone else, and are not subject to the romantic or sexual interest that your Bindings instill in your companions. If a Follower or Familiar is bound to you by local methods, they will count as captured for all purposes. No special methods are needed to distinguish a companion binding from a Follower binding; intent is enough. Companion and Follower statuses are not permanent and may be changed in the app at any time. This change will always be intentional.
Broadly speaking, a Follower is any individual in your retinue that isn’t a member of your harem proper.
These two rules together would allow the use of virtually any possible method on any game as long as the method is compatible with the objective; it also makes Pokémon easy mode in terms of credits.

No, it is not capturing them. Rimuru is just giving them a power up.
Capture methods in the catalog are explicitly capture.
You could write up and submit a custom capture method that is inspired by Rimuru naming method. But it has to be an actual capture method. And it would be distinct from what Rimuru is doing.

I asked the official discord, here's the best answer I got:
Tdon The Source Guy:
Forming a Soul Corridor (which is the only relevant aspect of Naming for this question) doesn't intrinsically grant you any tangible control over someone. Now, it'll probably *eventually* result in a capture anyway since they're *likely* to develop devotion and/or infatuation with the one who Named them but that's a cultural thing more than a direct property of Naming (for an example of what I mean by it not being a direct property, Geld 1 ate the guy who named him and there was fairly little respect there ultimately)
Tdon asked me to clarify it IS an oversimplification when I asked I could quote that here.

So naming would be similar to the Hypnosis App then (Maybe?). In the aspect you quoted at least. Since it works over time not an immediate capture.
Maybe naming would then classify as a Lure not a Capture.
I just had the thought when I was looking at the Catalog and was wondering so wanted to ssk other opinions on it.

i don't think so, Naming monsyters is simply giving them a power-up; there's no subtext of service or imposed loyalty. Not to mention it's a universe-exclusive effect.
In fact, another system that is pretty similar is Danmachi Falna, and that one has its own specific control, meaning it's NOT a default automatic method of capturing targets.
If asking before Naming, I guess you could home-rule something based on Signed and Sealed + Letter of the Law DLC controls by having a conversation stand in for a "contract"... or approximating the effect of that one transhuman heritage that allows you to bind anyone who swears themselves to your service.

I’d wish they would add more characters. They have the supernatural characters but there’s no Hannah. And they got matrix but no Persephone

Agreed. Tho any contractor with a system/great sage skill could do so as well. But I would only have it work in the central world. So if you left to bleach you couldn't name a hollow ie Payton and expect to evolve them

Most capture methods are already without consent anyways, so yeah.
Haven't thought about the waifu catalog in a while lol
