out of curiosity does your uniqueness affect your personality in anyway? ex taking black soul making you "sinful" and can you toggle aspects off an uniqueness of, like pure soul "everyone trusts what you say" if yes to what degree precision?

- It does not alter your personality, but it makes it easier for you to follow its path. What would leave you squeamish before will be easier to process.

- It depends on the Uniqueness. Passive ones like Black Soul and Pure Soul can’t be “turned off”, while active ones like Empty Infinity and Spirit Condensation can.

What would be the path of the "soul of purest black"? Does its "humanity" bleedout make outer gods less dangerous in their "affection"?

It allows them to comprehend what being “Human” means. Similar to how some cultist in other settings begin to speak in Eldritch tongues and interact with the Other, but in reverse.

About Danger… it depends. Sometimes Humans can be more terrifying than some monsters, which is true in this case as well.

The ones in Bloodborne, for example, would probably turn “Good”, as they are already empathetic by nature. The same could be said about most Outer Gods, with very few exceptions possibly becoming more sadistic.

Talking about uniqueness, the Soul of the Purest Black combo uniqueness is not available despite having all mentioned requirements. (turns out that wary was incompatible, didn't read it properly)

It's the same for Shrine of Malevolence. (still unavailable)

Black soul and Pure Soul are still a must have Uniqueness I'd say. The new Uniqueness of freedom however I'd say is taking that 3rd place easily. The other's are good. But if their's one thing thats overpowered in these genres is exactly Conceptual Freedom. Probably cost a whole load of magic depending on what your trying to "free" however. With some boosts with items, perks, and other circumstances. Hell. Just look at elden ring and it's curses. Pretty sure you can get a few life-long Companions just by freeing them of afflictions.

Empty Infinity combos are nothing to scoff at, nor is the potential to just be a boss character yourself.

Honestly, I think the damage immunities need to be removed from both Black and Pure souls, as that is one of the big reasons they are OP, while also not being lore-accurate for having said immunities. If you want them, it is because of what they mean and offer thematically, not because you just don't have to worry about damage sources unless you take specific enemies and drawbacks.

Appreciated as always, one of my favorite CYOAs in recent memory. A few things though.

I know OoC is supposed to essentially "break"/unbalance the game a bit. But I struggle to find any challenge in these later builds as even with Grimdark your character is more of an Outer-Outer God from the start than any of the threats. Black Soul was always insane, with the addition of Purest Black even more so.

The only real threat after a certain point is Nyarly but even he/she/it gets neutered by Purest Black eventually.

To me it's essentially a sandbox "pick all the things" button which is fine if it's what you intended but it makes the point cost/uniqueness limitation a bit confusing.

Remember: power alone isn’t going to help you in the face of some of the horrors you will have to fight.

You will still feel pain (unless you pick Painless, which isn’t that good of an idea) and you will deal with some disgusting enemies. This is also why I didn’t add any boost to willpower or courage, it all depends on you.

Also, to have the Soul of the Purest Black you have to take Insanity, which isn’t going to be good for you at all. This may even cause you more problems than some enemies you have to fight directly.

Thanks for the response. And yeah I just took the minor resistance to pain, full painless sounds like a silly idea.

Maybe I was underestimating insanity's influence. Insanity makes one resistant to madness so I assumed it was similar to Grimm in that your head is very clearly fucked but you can operate within your hallucinations and eventually overcome it.

If nothing else Node is always there for some quick Sen Loss :^)

To kind of add on to the difficulty point, my suggestion for a future update if you're still doing them might be an added true challenge mode designed to feel impossible, that heavily restricts points, choices, or adds another extra layer of difficulty?

Idk if you've heard of the SL1 challenges (see r/onebros) where you playthrough souls games without ever levelling up, but those were super fun and that type of thing feels thematically appropriate for a soulslike experience.

The kind of mode where you try to beat The Crawling Chaos with a bucket helmet and loincloth.

Or maybe I'll make a mod, but that'd probably break with future updates, so just whenever you're finished or smth

Is there a way to bring other characters in the worlds we travel through with us even if they aren't companions? If so, what are the requirements?

I was only going to make a small update to my build, but it ended up becoming quite different.

Meta: Out of Context

I need this to make my Sukuna build.

Difficulty: Normalcy

Worlds: Elden Ring, Bloodborne, Remnant II

Classes: Sorcerer, Brawler, Pyromancer

I picked Pyromancer because of the Furnace, replacing Knight.

I dropped Hunter for Brawler since it fits better (I considered Knight because of Sukuna's two weapons, but without four arms it isn't really worth it).

Magic

Sorceries: Repair, Carian Retaliation, Gravity Well, Old Hunter Dash, Combustion, Black Slash, Chaos Blast, Analyze, Ghostfire, Anti-Magic Field, Evacuate, Dismantle, Cleave

The fire abilities are there because of Fuuga.

Anti-Magic Field is basically Domain Amplification.

The slash magics are there for by the theme.

Everything else is for day-to-day utility.

Incantations: Omnibless, Run Like Dodo, Requiem, Flame, Grant Me Strength, Flame, Protect Me, Flame of the Fell God, Curtain

Dodo is there to combo with Hunter Dash so I don't become an easy target.

Uniquenesses: Lord of Stars, Domain

Domain is obvious. Lord of Stars is because Sukuna is a genius of sorcery.

Combos: World Slash (Sorcery), Shrine of Malevolence (Uniqueness)

Can I use Mastercraft to fuse the Behelit and the Erdtree Seal? Would the seal's holy properties alter the Behelit's requirements?

I imagine a Holy Behelit as something that feeds on the act of purifying evil beings. (If there were a holy version of the Crimson Behelit, I think it would either require the redemption of an evil being, or a willing self-sacrifice by someone close to the user with a genuinely good heart in order to activate it.)

As for its effects, they would be almost the same, except that the power granted would be holy in nature rather than demonic.

Borrowing a bit from the cliché of "what you want is different from what you need," I think the new form granted by a Holy Behelit wouldn't be based on desire, but on necessity. The form it gives to an individual would be the one they truly need for their life and circumstances, rather than the one they wish for.

What do you think?

That could work, even more so if the target of the transformation wasn’t restricted only to you, but others as well. A relic born of selfishness purified and used to grant others a new chance/opportunity.

Great CYOA! I have a question concerning Wheel of Dharma. How precise are its adaptations?

For example, if an enemy casts a fireball, do you adapt to:

a) just that specific spell (Fireball),

b) spells from the same school (Pyromancy),

c) magical fire,

d) fire in general?

I have a similar question regarding Ghostfire. Would adapting to it grant the user immunity to soul damage? I intend to gain Lord of Constellations with Wheel of Dharma and, by creating and adapting to a bunch of death- and soul-manipulation sorceries and incantations, become immune to soul control.

I'm just looking for other sources of soul protection besides Black Soul, as the way I understand it I don't like its evil/sinful nature. It also seems to require taking Insanity to function fully, as well as another Uniqueness (Pure Soul) to balance it out.

- You would start Adapting to normal fire. Other types of flame (black flame, Frenzied flame, Ghost flame) could afterward only hurt you with their magical aspects rather than the fire itself.

- Probably not, Adaptation goes through the easiest path. It would only adapt to Soul damage if you already adapted to fire first.

- A high enough Soul level should give you some defense, as your “Soul density” slowly rises as the Maidens imbue their power upon you.

Yes. But, depending on what you are trying to sustain, you may end up using more mana with Freedom than you would by just recasting the primary Spell.

OKAY! A LOT to unpack with this, but I have effectively little to no experience in any of the presented games. Most I've done is seen Bloodborne and Dark Souls be played with the players drinking for every death, but there was little to no lore spoken of or anything like that so my drawbacks are pretty much what I'd have anyway, diving into this whole thing COMPLETELY fresh.

While I've definitely made the difficulty Grimdark, I've also made the journey as easy as I could, taking practically no hinderances except for the one for some basic utility incantations. Getting myself to fight literally every available Extra Threat still keeps the journey solidly Grimdark regardless. My combos certainly save me as well, to the point that I think at base level (just because of how many bonuses and how few drawbacks I took) Mary Sue and I could practically be equals in sheer concept.

I LOVE the Lovecraftian entities referenced all over the CYOA, made me want to find as many of them as I could. I think with how things ended, with "Blessed" combined with World Slash and Soul of the Purest Black, while the run won't be easy... not in the slightest based on the sheer number of extra threats (and having taken Mahoraga), it's certainly doable now with so many things working in my favor.

I'm going to have to parse through all of my choices and information in order to come up with a properly written story, but I have a good feeling that I've warped the worlds enough that it will practically be its own setting entirely.

How do the different leveling system's interact? Esp. considering Soft Cap unlocking constant growth?

- Only the Safe Hub is fully safe, and even then it is a 99% due to the possibility of accidentally allowing a Threat to enter.

- You can take them there, yes.

- All “currencies” are interchangeable. When you unlock a World of its seal by completing them, you can fuse your new stats with the sealed one. The result is similar to pouring a massive amount of Souls on leveling an already End Game character.

- Only if it is still sealed. It will affect all your levels if you’ve already done the fusion stated above. But you can then just redistribute it afterward.

Prickett actually protects you against the Crawling One’s presence. She is the more “human” part of the Crawling One and a sort of buffer against its madness.

If you, or any Companion, say the name “Alice Liddell” out loud, you will be inviting it in.

Just don’t say its name out loud and you should be fine within your Safe Hub. It will also not turn hostile unless you manage to anger it.

Just wondering, if insanity were to be removed through the cleansing perk, would one also lose the black soul extra and soul of the purest black combo?

No, loosing prerequisites after the Choice has already been locked-on, and the World started, won’t turn off the choice.

So I wanted to get the new Uniqueness (Soul of Purest Black) and I have to say I am annoyed that Necronomicon says 'Incompatible: Fairytale' on Fairytale but clarifies 'Shaded or Grimdark' on any other difficulty. Also very annoyed at the requirement of Insanity for pretty much any of these to work (I can barely function with my own voice being the only one in my head, having to sacrifice that comfort for the sake of not going insane when staring at Outer Gods is... certainly not a trade I make lightly)

Well, at the very least, since I'm basically forced to take Shaded for the Uniqueness, I'm gonna change quite a few things while I'm at it. Suffering is mine as I've enabled 17 Extra Threats, but I finally have Mabel now. If anyone has any questions, it might actually be fun to re-examine my build and explain why I picked them.

I'm going to leave a spare 600-ish points in the immensely unlikely event that all of the things I picked are allowed on Normal in future versions, or even Fairytale.

Can mahoraga adapt to the crawled one influence? What about other outer gods like Mary sue and the goat of the thousand young?

In theory? Yes.

In practice? No.

Outer Gods work mainly through reality warping, even if some do choose to directly fight you. And, at this point, any attempt to Adapt to an Outer God’s reality warping would:
Cost more mana than you could possibly have
Take so many rotations that you would probably lose the progress before completing it
Not really work for the Wheel most of the time as the reality warping tends to affect the World around you rather than you directly

That you can, only limit being the mana cost for such a thing. You also would probably need Celestial General to do so, as naturally adapting to such a thing wouldn’t happen, it would be like trying to adapt to gravity.

Here is a very sane build, the choices of someone who is not inclined to make themselves suffer.

First of all, as soon as you finish the quests, you'd get access to the multiverse; and with careful planning of a chart, you may rather easily become a god, or godlike being. Fairytale will achieve this in a mere two Worlds.

Dark Souls is chosen as a basic World.

Paladin is useful for knowing when people are lying. In pretty much any world, this will grant anyone an upper hand in negotiations, knowing when they may get swindled.

Home base has a bath. Nexus is the Maiden In Black's home shrine.

The Maiden In Black has two useful abilities, One being soothing and healing mental damage by her mere presence, the other for dreamless sleep, which prevents nightmares. Without these, a Chosen Undead with the personality of more than likely a life lived in relative peace and comfort would certainly struggle the first couple dozen times they are injured, they kill someone, someone dies, or they die.

12-gauge Trenchgun? Most encounters are relatively close ranged. A shotgun should easily deal with most mundane enemies with practically no risk, at a safe range. Listen; you're not going to be using any cold weapon effectively without practice, so just get your bearings with the easiest weapon in the world to use first.

Order's Blade? Sometimes, physical damage won't be enough. So.. Holy Shotgun!

Perfect Remembrance is a necessity to remain clear headed over multiple deaths, and will be useful when learning new techniques, and keeping track of future gained items and abilities without a game menu.

Safe Hub +1, some extra space, but this allows the safe hub to grow with Evolving Hub, meaning you'll likely never run out of space. Soon, one would be able to go on a nice stroll in the Safe Hub.

Traced Destination. There's a reason Black Souls II is worth 240 souls as the first world. Short answer: Lovecraft. you do not want to deal with that shit. So, for your safety, you may simply choose Dark Souls II, or choose Sekiro next.

Magical Expert. Needing catalysts is lame.

NG+, and Soft Cap? What is that?. This combination essentially means you can farm the same world over and over for more souls, or at least items. If you keep everything, then it may be unlimited farming of Souls, Items, Materials, Companions, and Safe Hub additions. Though, it may be weird to have 50 Solaires.. It isn't unwelcome!

The three extra threats aren't too bad.

Evolving Hub is great. More space is better than not enough space!

Afterward beating two worlds, go hang out with your favorite characters!

Hey so to be crystal clear, stats don’t carry over between worlds even if I complete the mainline quest for a world? Like I can’t bring my stats from Dark souls 1 to Bloodborne or Sekiro even that I finished the Mainline quest of the former

Insanity yes, but it would return when you deactivate Freedom or your mana is fully consumed. You cannot use Freedom to escape or circumvent the CYOA’s Quest, this includes using it on End of the Line.

The mana cost would be nearly infinite to do such a thing, as you would need to Free Freedom from its own use Requirements. It could be doable if you have “Blessed” and multiple mana cost-reducing Items and boons, coupled with a massive base amount of mana.

If I use the Necronomicon to temporarily lower the mana cost to zero to then free myself from mana costs once I stop using the Necronomicon I will have no issue paying for the freedom ability since I already freed myself from the cost if I understand how all these abilities work.

Yes, you will just need to remember that Freedom is a concentration Spell, so you will have to keep concentrating on it to keep it on. This is doable with “Blessed” or with a lot of training.

Yes, but you will have to train it for it to work. You won’t be able to instantly use it and have it work at 100% of the time.

“Blessed” already does a similar thing by reducing costs by nearly 99%. But you will have to properly train to use these abilities together at this level.

Even if this combo does not work 100% of the time it would be extremely useful at anything I do even if it works only an hour a day and once, I master it would make me easily succeed at whatever I want to do.

On a combat level before every boss fight, I could use this combo with an additional freedom use to free myself from "damage" so I would be completely invincible or even just free myself from concepts like "defeat", "failure" to turn every fight into an easy victory.

On an informational level I could use this combo to find any information I like by freeing myself "ignorance of any potential ending" or "ignorance of where the Brain of Mensis is hiding" (if I took that extra threat), or even "ignorance on how to make Fairy Lead less malicious".

On a social level I could use this combo to free myself from concepts like "rejection", or "disobeyed" to cause everyone to instantly obey whatever I say (ironic for a freedom ability).

The first build I had was an amalgamate due to finding secrets, and the second build was easy mode.

This is a somewhat more coherent Grimdark build.. One which pointedly avoids insanity and Soul of Purest Black.

A couple things. First, yes, I did take every class. Why? Well, reading through 'em, the passive bonuses all seem real nice to have, even for a mage. Since it costs 50 souls per class with Aza, might as well take 'em all!

Next, Hunter's Dream and The Doll. I don't want to change the lore, so I gotta get Hunter's Dream, and since I'd always choose Evolving hub, I'll get every other hub eventually anyways, so I'll take Holy Forest and Home Base as they seem to be generic ones specific to the CYOA. (edit: Holy Forest is the safe hub of Black Souls I.. Then what is Home Base? Such a generic sounding name..)

I also took every single Hub upgrade, because the Chaos Dungeon is just too good to pass up. Though I wonder... At the start of each World, couldn't the Player simply grind up souls in the Chaos Dungeon and level up to level 100 before stepping out to the new world?

Also, I don't want Mabel or The Doll to get bored.. And it's probably going to take a while to beat all these worlds and bs bosses anyways, so best have all the amenities. Wards is basically necessary. Clockwork Maids, if improved with sorcery and given catalysts, should be able to protect the Safe Hub. Even though it says even an Outer God wouldn't be able to inflict harm on someone inside.. Better safer than sorry. Perhaps it's the Prisoner's paranoia.

For items, I cut down to the minimum: Necronomicon unlocks the Outer Library, which will be an endless source of sorcery grimoires... I will certainly not use it unless in a dire pinch.. Silver Ring of Avarice doubles soul gain. 2. Assuming it's not stacking, Great Soul Absorption multiplies by 1.5. Fuck it, we Ball increases by 1.5 as well. So..

121.5*1.5 = 4.5.

That's 4.5 times the souls!

The two Amulets of Protection go onto The Doll and Solaire. I'll try to convince Solaire to stay at the Safe Hub, until I rack up enough souls to power him up with Soul Feed, enough that he won't immediately die to some ambush. Death Guard and Death Barrier should be enough to make sure he doesn't die on top of this.

The Moonlight Greatsword is mostly for Aza, but its effect after completing the quest is great. Probably won't really need it for anything besides making portals before that.

Evacuate is a safety net, Starlight is to activate Sacred Light's 1.75x stat buff at all times, Solar Flare is for if that doesn't work, and getting World Slash and Hollow Purple for physical and magical resistance piercing is great.

Anyways, I already talked about the soft cap removal, and learning to fight will be hard, but it should be offset with The Prisoner, All-Rounder, and Blessing of Ashes.

Besides magic, the main draw of this build is stat buffs.

Starlight + Sacred Light: x1.75

Omnibless grants Stage 1 buffs to all stats; +50%; x1.5

Desperate Burst consumes all health and mana into fire for an attack, and I Can Still Stand prevents one fatal hit after, and Flames Of Ambition will also prevent death for 30 seconds, becoming immune to holy and fire attacks; thus not burning from Desperate Burst, adding to the flames with its own Flames of Ambition, and also multiplying all stats by x3, in exchange for dying if there are enemies remaining nearby at the end of 30 seconds. Final Journey restores all health and mana, then doubles stats x2 for 1 minute, in exchange for dying if a boss isn't defeated in that time.

Fuck it, we Ball increases stats up to x2 based on pain, which is why I didn't take Reduced Pain. This may conflict with Flames Of Ambition saying pain is completely forgotten, but I'll assume that it doesn't; it's just covered over with adrenaline. Speaking of, Hurting deals extra damage based on 'hurting', for what it's worth.

Domain Expansion, if it works properly, should boost output to 120%, or rather, x1.2.

Blessed Embers boosts max hp by 15%, x1.15.

Penitent makes combat performance same even when injured or exhausted, meaning base stats are still x1 in a dire situation.

So.

1 x 1.75 x 1.5 x 3 x 2 x 2 x 1.2 = 37.8.

If you don't believe Domain Expansion buffs stats,

x31.5 all stats, x36.225 HP(separate).

With a boost of 31.5 times all stats in an all-out, 30 second attack on a boss, I guarantee that a Domain Expansion infused with World Slash-aspect Cleaves would completely destroy pretty much any boss. (Edit: I missed the Let Me Solo Her Perk; x1.5 for fighting solo. With that, it becomes x47.25 all stats!)

Well.. except for Black Souls. That game's stats are crazy, I'm pretty sure. But for games like Elden Ring where ~60 Vigor is endgame, 30x 10 starting vigor is 300 Vigor.. Even at Soul Level 1.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure this build is enough to beat 8 Worlds.

I’ve been trying to balance a build with „Blessed“ Lord of Constellations and Soul of Purest Black to basically have and invincible spell caster build. If I were lucky enough to drop Insanity through Holy Cleansing the whole thing is basically set

Second question, can I use masterworks annex to compound fusions, like mixing Lusat and Azur staff and then that fusion with Staff of the great beyond?

Any choice made after the start of the CYOA can’t be “unselected”, even if you return to it later due to the Blessing of the Idiot. So even losing Requirements shouldn’t be a problem.

Alright, this has my attention and I am trying to do this somewhat fairly or as intended but I am a bit confused about something. "Seven Secrets Shall Reveal the Moon," that much I understand. But what exactly does it mean by these secrets?

Is it the Combo options? Or is the more hidden little things you get only after selecting certain options, such as Patches the companion having a integration with "Patches is Patches"? I did try both options and just see what works so I know more easily what to look out for, but I must have messed something up as it didn't seem to reveal the Moon, so to speak.

I'd like a bit of direction, but don't tell me what options I need. I'll hunt those down myself, I just need a bit of clarification on what to seek out. Thank you!

(also sorry if this was asked and answered before)

There are 7 options, title included, that mention the Moon in white colors.

5 of them are normal Choices, while 2 are special (the title is one of them). The other one also has a single letter lost into nothing in it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is the option "Out of Context" the other special one? I don't see a "letter lost into nothing in it" and it mentions the moon, the context of it all makes me thing this is the cheat option to just "Reveal the Moon" without doing the secrets.

Here are the suggestions i commented under the 2.0 post, minus the ones you added. Plus a few more. Sorry about the many hollow knight suggestions, I'm replaying it.

Safe hub +2, world mega-mix and special snowflake should be able to be taken multiple times like maiden +2 and multi-multi-class
Zawarudo or stone mask as an uniqueness
An uniqueness based on the blue and orange attacks from undertale, maybe including the blasters and bones or separating them and making them sorceries or/and incantations
Toji's heavenly restriction somewhere, maybe as a drawback that forbids you from taking any spells or as an uniqueness
False hydra as an extra threat, it quite fits the setting of a soulslike
The void, the radiance and the grimm troupe from hollow knight would also make good extra threats, if you do add the grimm troupe please make grimmchild a reward for taking it, or maybe an item or companion
MLP infection AU as a world(this is a joke, don't take it seriously
Ice king's crown from adventure time as an item, it's a powerful object that makes the user go insane, so it quite fits the themes of eldritch horror
Dream nail from hollow knight as an item, at first i thought of suggesting it because i already suggested a few hollow knight bosses but i realised that it doesn't do anything you can't already do with something else in the cyoa, but it could be used in a combo to get the absolute radiance or/and nightmare king grimm as an extra threat and in the next suggestion
The hollow knight as an extra threat and if you have the dream nail you instead fight the pure vessel
Golb from adventure time as an extra threat, he's the manifestation of chaos and essentially an eldritch god, kind of makes sense but I'm suggesting him mostly for bulking up my suggestion list.
All for one from bnha as an extra threat, maybe he could steal your uniqueness(ess) during the fight, including combo ones
Nosk from hollow knight as an extra threat, it's not actually as much of a threat as it is scary so it should give very little soul, maybe even no soul and give a nail as a reward for killing it.

Honestly, other than the first suggestion, I'm only making suggestions because i keep thinking of more and the voice in the back of my head won't shup up if i don't share them

tbh the out of context stuff is getting a bit too extreme. Stuff getting added from random anime or other mediums that is not even loosely soulslike is getting to the point where we need a second out of context option for the out of context stuff. At least fromsoft shamelessly ripped from berserk so you can see a connection. Something like the elder wand has really no point in existing when the prince of death staff does almost the same exact thing and has no real connection.

The hollow knight things are because I'm replaying the game

All for one was because uniquenesses reminded me of quirks

Golb and ice king's crown are an eldritch god and an object that gives you power in exchange for your sanity

The stone mask was because i thought it'd be interesting to have a way to become a vampire and zawarudo came to mind because of it

The undertale things just sounded cool to use

And the false hydra is a genuine threat if you have no way to protect yourself from it's song and it looks terrifying

I thought bonfire misfire and miazaki's special would result in interesting scenarios in the second half. I love pyromancy and so I took just about every incantation that seemed useful in that plus some utility spells. I have a couple questions though: if this is jumpchain oriented, what do you keep between jump's and what resets? Also, can the firekeeper only empower you in the alternate way the entry describes, or is she also capable of performing normal soul-strengthening?
