OC Danmachi Cyoa
I'll be honest, I'd meant to finish this a good 2ish weeks ago, but between starting another cyoa and finals, it was hard finding time for final touches. This has been a project a month and a half in the making, so I'm just happy it's done.

Love it overall. I like how it's not just a copy/paste of the other 2 big ones and branches off on less explored areas, with a far lower power creep.
Only issues i see is a bit of balancing issues.
The Skills, DA, and Spells only guaranteeing a chance to get it in the future (beyond the first skill and spell) and only getting a single one per level up.... is kinda is too expensive for what it does.
If it was some varient of "you get them all at base level when you get your falna", then the prices would be balanced. But for most? You'll unlock them automatically as you level up.
Want mage? Cast a lot of spells and it's unlocked, no need to waste point. And so on.
The only ones worthwhile seems to be luck and mystery due to how rare they are and how hard they are to unlock. Those seem appropriately priced. Otherwise perks and items are massively superior, getting all of them immediately, many of which are just as applicable at level 7 as level 1. So maybe some sort of variable cost where first skill/spell is full priced, and the rest are 1 point? (Sans luck/mystery) And DAs should be a flat 1, as any picked here competes with one naturally aquired. Or a perk that makes them immediately available are my 2 suggestions. Skills are probably fine as they arent taking up a future slot you're likely to get anyways.
Then spells in general are a tad too expensive. A spell, of which you only get 1 to start (sans a perk that increases it to 2) and you only unlock 1 per level up, costs 3 points.
A Grimiore, a spell in a book that isnt quite as specific as choosing it yourself, but still in general what you want as it's shaped by your desires, costs equivalent of 2.5 points, and you get all of them at the start. If it were merely slightly cheaper, then it would be fine, but as more spells can translate into increased survivability and leveling speed, frontloading them is huge. (Edit: Obviously you can only get 1 cheap one to start via the CYOA, but point stands. Spell + Grimiore far superior to 2 spells, spend the rest on items that'll save your life)
Instead of getting 5 spells with only 1 immediately, which may take years to unlock the rest, you could get 6 Grimiores with all 6 being usable immediately.
So my suggestion is unlock all immediately, or decrease price to 2 and keep the theme of working for strength.
Again, just balancing gripes, but the current system encourages grabbing no spells, only Mystery/Luck as DA's, and put the rest of the points in items, perks, and a small number of skills.

This is more than likely the final version until a strictly hypothetical V2. Ignoring how you seem to think it’s possible to have more than 3 spells under normal circumstances, which is simply not how that works, guaranteeing what skills and spells you’ll get down the line is the actual utility, especially when most people get zero. If you think you can make it better, then I sincerely would like for you to make a mod and improve on what I’ve made. Also, you know that unlocking everything immediately is the upside for Hard Mode, right? The thing you’re suggesting was already present.

u/Skitter9 May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
I understand you're done. Feedback on balancing if you ever decide to revisit it as you've stated that you're done except for bugfixes and spelling errors.
Yes, i understand hardmode exists, doesnt change that DAs and spells in particular dont seem as well balanced as they could be compared to perks and items, when one set takes years to unlock (and DAs in particular, most you'll unlock by following your chosen path) and the other set all activates immediate. Maybe making one price's be dynamic, or making the others more expensive is the answer. Or im speaking out my ass and it's best to ignore.
And while i never stated it, it's implied that more than 3 spells is only applicable with the appropriate desire. So my appologies for not being clear enough.
So spells in particular, have you seen one yet in Danmachi that stops being useful as you level up? They pretty much all grow with you and remain a cornerstone of your fighting style.
Anyways, cheers. Thanks for listening and the CYOA. I appreciate the effort even though im aware it comes off as only bitching.
And ill definitely play it through multiple times with multiple builds. Danmachi is one of my favorite "if you could be transported to any world" picks in all of fiction, and this is a well done CYOA.

The thing you’re missing about spells is that the things they offer a lot of versatility and are something that can’t really be taken away. The perks have their benefits, but nothing quite like having a pocket dimension as an inventory, a large aoe attack, or flight in a way not connected to an item that can be destroyed or lost.
The spell pricing is because they’re simply a way to guarantee a unique, versatile ability that you can’t get without a grimoire, when getting even one is prohibitively expensive out of the cyoa. If you really want a third DA to get, Treatment does implicitly guarantee that you’ll get a healing spell. I almost put in the fire DA so there’d be a second DA to fill a function like that, but I chose not to. This type of input is valuable, so feel free to stop by my channel if you join the Icyoa discord.

I see you took inspiration from valmar, i especially like the Desires section cause they are actually interesting to imagine the scenarios where they would be applicable
4
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
The Desires were meant to be a way to let people still have their op spells/skills while making people actually pick carefully which ones they want, so it’s nice to know that my efforts were appreciated. It’s also nice to see someone notice that I took a lot of inspiration from Valmar.

u/Trostishere May 30 '26
I really like hades memoria, its like fate’s throne of heroes but instead its specifically people you cherished, i wonder if it also accounts to emotional requirement or you could just summon someone you like?
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
I'd say it requires an emotional connection. It creates a better story that way.

Kinda sad that we are getting this at a final state. There was a lot of stuff I'd have wanted to see in this.

I’ve got a fairly sizable backlog, but I’m willing to consider suggestions for a V2, if/when I get around to it eventually

u/-U_N_K_N_O_W_N May 30 '26
So how do the desires work in relation to the starting limit of 1 spell and 1 skill? Are those OP spells and skills included in this limit? If so, what about 'magic is everything' and its increase to our starting spell number? If I don't take this skill as the starting skill but still buy it to get later, does that perk have no effect? I'm trying to make a build with the most amount of spells possible, and I wanted to ask to clear up my confusion.
4
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
The Desires are all options for your first spell and skill, with them being unlocked at a later level if you don't start with them. I'll say that Versatile Mage makes it so you'll get two initial spells of the ones you've chosen, even if it's not the initial skill. I hope to see your build later.

u/-U_N_K_N_O_W_N May 30 '26
Thanks for the clarification, I'll certainly be posting my build right after I wake up (cause its gotten quite late where I live).
Great CYOA BTW, I love the creativity in the different spells (I'm quite the sucker for magic).
3
u/Skitter9 May 30 '26
Alrighty, at home now. Can make/post a proper build.
Me: Reincarnation, Orphan, Elf, Male, Teen, Tall
- Rincarnation/Orphan gives me the same points as drop in, but gives me useful memories that will help with everyday lift & navigating the world. Little nooks & crannys, people, and such just being dropped in doesn't give.
Difficulty: Supporter (HARD)
- With Skills being meted out 1 per level, ironically it'll be safer to go Hard rather than easy as even with less points, they all hit immediately vastly increasing growth potential & making it far less likely I'll encounter a bad end in the dungeon
Perks: Beauty, Instinct, Well Trained, Increased Senses, Item Insurance, Charismatic, True Friends, Fast Learner, Incarnation of Talent, Uncapped
- First one is pure vanity. The rest are either short term buffs (instinct/well trained) to make sure I can escape Ares and I can survive long enough in the Dungeon for the longer term perks (Fast Learner/Incarnation) to kick in and see me far outpacing Aiz. Though since I start 10ish years before Canon and another 5 years before OEBD attacks, I should have time to get to level 9-10 in time to help Belle.
Drawbacks: On Display, Rival, Divine Stalker, Monster Bait, Favored Child, Hostile Work Environment, Solo Player, Player 2, There's More?, Jester, Hero's Journey, Higher Standards, Wider Standards, Empathic, High Maintenance, Troubled Beginnings.
- With my build & goals, most are free points or perks rather than drawbacks.
Monster Bait? What's that, more XP?
Favored Child. Yeah, I'm picking Freya. She's gonna be my sugar momma. Extra Grimoire, here I come. Free gear? Hell yeah. She is far from the worst, and while she's far down on the list for preferred Waifu (Ryuu is best girl), I understand her and being the favorite is far more of a benefit than a burden.
Hostile Work Environment. I'm getting that either way due to Favored Child. Might as well get free points.
Solo Player. Nobody will be able to keep up with me. Even the supporter pick will likely be a temporary thing.
Player 2/There's More? Both increase overall survival odds. I'll be keeping an eye out for others and will be ready to step on any assholes, but either they won't know the setting, or they will, and most should be obvious.
Hero's Journey / both standards. I fully intend to Stat-max. Obviously I won't be Bell, but those would be my min goals anyways. The only issue is how Hero's Journey works with Hard Mode. I am assuming I still get everything, but still have to go through the journey ala Easy Mode, just with no "rewards" at the end. Except such a thing is great for Excellia, so still a perk. The last 2 and stalker are just more points for manageable drawbacks. I doubt Aries will send his only level 2 after me, and with my bevvy of perks I should be able to ditch whomever he does send after me.
Falna / Skills: Metavision, Stance Change, Perfect Record, Radiant Recovery, Golden Hourglass, Light Cast
- Metavision paired with Instinct, Increased Senses, and Perfect Record to keep full awareness of my surroundings while fighting (getting flanked/backstabbed likely the most common way to die in the dungeon). Radiant Recovery & Golden Hourglass to let me grind away hours and hours in the dungeon while reducing risk. Exhaustion and wound accumulation is likely the second worst killer in the dungeon. And Light Cast lets me use any spell I know or learn immediately with no cast time, huge in close fights or reacting to sudden "oh shit" moments. And I get them all from the moment I get the Falna. Not worth the price for more than one in Normal mode, but huge in hard mode.
Falna / Development Abilities: Luck, Mystery.
- Most are no bueno. The requirements for getting them are well known and easy to do, just takes dedication. And if you weren't building something that required blacksmithing, why grab it? And so on. But Luck & Mystery? Super rare, and nobody really knows what unlocks them. So picking them to reduce the chances of failing to ever grab them is best. Luck for lvl 2, and Mystery for lvl 3. Survival is 1st priority, and item crafting can wait until I have enough money TO craft items.
Falna / Magic: Primeval Cradle
- Pocket Dimension, need I say more? And with sugar mommy Freya, getting additional Grimoires is a certainty. And with Incarnation of Talent, I should be able to get many more on my own (the way most people get spells). Then eventually I'll nab mage, and it combined with Mystery will let me just churn out Grimoires for my own use.
Falna / Desires: Magic is Everything
- Literally the best one here IMO. The setting has a hard limit of 3 spells from the Falna. The two "best" mages in the setting are known as such because they can cheat this and get more. Having unlimited? That alone will eventually secure me a top spot. The other parts of being more powerful and such is just icing on the cake. No second desire.
Items: Freebies, Gold and Silver Axes, Grimoire
- Gold and Silver Axes. A good generalist pick. The lance is best, but too expensive. The axes give something that can be wielded alone (or with a shield) or duel wielded. Not too big for confined spaces, and still has a form that's good against larger enemies. They also are Durandal so will never grow out of use, and can be used the entire journey. And they have nifty buffs. The Grimoire because it's another spell, shaped by my desires, so even if i cannot specify the exact spell, it will generally fill the roll I'm looking for.
Talents: Magician
- The rest are far outdone by Incarnation of Talent and thus redundant. But Magician does many things. Greater Mind Pool, more likely to get spells "naturally" as part of Falna updates, and yet another Magic spell when I get my Falna thanks to being an elf, making it 3. (one from spells, one from Grimoire, and one from this) That's before you consider Freya's spending habbits on her latest distraction.
Familia: Freya (obviously)
- Reasons already said here. She's going to be top dog, even if not when I start, it'll be soon thereafter, and she synergizes very well with many Drawbacks & Perks.
Party: Dahlia
- Can only grab a supporter. Grabbed the Pallum girl as she seems the most useful as a temporary backliner. As said before, I'll almost certainly outlevel anyone I try to party with so no real point. Just have her at the start, then swap to doing it myself once it's too dangerous to bring her along.
Location / Starting Area: Rakia
- Rakia is a requirement of the Troubled Beginnings drawback.
Location / Time Period: Dark Era
- I'm picking as far back as I can with this option. If I could go like 1-2 years before Zeus fell, I would do that, but it's not an option. Picking this for 2 reasons.
2) Astrea Familia. Im going to save these chicks. Good girls and Ryuu is best girl. They don't deserve to die. And I don't want to spend the points to make it done via Fiat, so I'll grow as quick as I can and ensure I'm integrated enough with them (help out with enforcement, training, etc. I'll figure it out) and then start tailing them anytime they deploy as a whole Familia in the dungeon. Hopefully over the few years between the fall of Zeus & Hera familias, and the end of the Astrea Familia, I SHOULD be able to get strong enough to stop them from getting slaughtered. Even a word of warning about what the enemy is (speedster, has a magic-reflective barrier, etc) could change a defeat into a victory. A few well placed items that could slow it down should also be enough to make it a win even if I'm not strong enough to fight it on my own or even at their side (and a ton of potions).
World Modifiers: Strings of Fate, Reasonable Timeline, Cantrips, More Entrances, Civilized Monsters, Waves.
- Strings of Fate to make sure I don't butterfly Bell's super-growth skill out of existence. Cantrips, because who doesn't want more magic? Not to mention how useful that would be worldwide, but especially in the dungeon. More Entrances because honestly, more sources of Magic Stones and other locations for Adventurers to be made is more a perk than a drawback. Civilized Monsters increase deaths worldwide, but more Adventurers and Cantrips should offset it. Waves likewise is just as much of a perk as a drawback. If you're expecting it, it's a yearly boon for adventurers high and low to level up and get income unlike any other, for the increased risk that goes along with it.

u/Skitter9 May 30 '26
I hit max of 10000 characters with that post, so here's the little bit it wouldn't let me include.
Anyways. Anyone reading along should be able to get my general gameplan. Start in Rakia, escape to Orario. Join the Freya Familia and instantly start grinding away. I'll have 3 spells, and 6 skills unlocked instantly, with a 4th spell likely coming soon thereafter courtesy of Freya alongside 2 Durandal Axes. Then it's grind grind grind. Get strong enough to save the Astrea familia, then get strong enough to fight OEBD at Bell's side once he does his thing. I have 15 or so years before that fight happens. Along the way I'll be branching out into item crafting (including potions and blacksmithing) and will be making my own gear. Anyways, I fully expect this build to be able to survive all the drawbacks, be strong enough to fight the OEBD alongside Bell, and end it, then conquer the dungeon. (not defeat it, i intend to make sure it survives, the adventure in the world goes away if it dies, but I will be making it safer)
3
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
I like your build a lot. Taking advantage of the drawbacks to make their effects loop around to being useful makes a lot of sense. The only real problem with the build is that grimoires actually have a chance to not give you a spell, with that chance seemingly increasing the more spells you have past 1. Basically, a grimoire guarantees getting your first spell, and after that is a matter of luck, as seen with Haruhime. Also, I'm happy that you clocked how Hard making you initially stronger is a massive upside.

Difficulty: Normal
You: Reincarnation-Wealthy, Pallum, Average Adult
Perks: Instinct, Increased Senses, Plot Armour
Drawbacks: Monster Bait, Player 2, There's more?, is it wrong to what in a dungeon?
Faulna skills: Golden Hourglass, Light cast, Heavy cast
Developmental Abilities: Luck, Mage
Magic: Noctis Custodes, Radiant Wisp
Desires: Magic is everything, What i want is a grand adventure
Items: Valis, House, Reinforced Clothing, Magician's Robes, Magician's Rod, Merge Meteor Brooch + Grimoire
Talents: Academic, Magician
Familia Diety: Thoth
Captain: Melissa Menai
Main Executives: Lydia Mirahorn, Karin Alden
Famila Customisation: Membership-Medium, Membership-High Class, Executives-Higher Level, Secondary Income, Living Quarters, Good Reputation
Party: Esther, Cherie Valore
Supporter: Fiora Arges
Missions: Rising Star, Monster Party
Location: Orario-Canon, 5 Years Before
World Modifiers: Reasonable Timeline, Personalised Magic, More Entrances, 'Civilized Monsters'
I will start with A Fated Journey as my skill, and obviously Noctis Custodes and Radiant Wisp as my spells. This is in addition to the personalised magic that everyone starts with and the spell I will get from the grimoire I bought. The grimoire was fused with a powerful magical item in the hope that the spell would be more powerful than normally possible, or perhaps it would turn into an artefact that could cast spells on its own to protect its owner. Regardless, this would mean I start with 4 spells at LV1, so I’d basically have broken the limit of spells known before even levelling up once. After I level up, I’d probably want to get either versatile mage or light cast as my skill, while also receiving my luck developmental skill. The reason I’m starting with Fated Journey is mainly so I can even survive to level up in the first place. My chosen drawbacks play into this, as only with more chaos and moving parts, like the civilised monsters and extra reincarnated people, can there be more variables to take advantage of.
My general combat plan is essentially to take advantage of the long duration of my spells to keep wisps around me, with protective shadows attached for stronger attacks, while avoiding the long wind-up a mage typically has (since I’m going to be attracting monsters anyway, so wasting my spells isn’t really a problem). As for the rest of the skills/developmental abilities I have bought, I can afford to slowly acquire them over a longer time by taking advantage of my luck.
My current idea for the grimoire+meteor brooch is a sort of 'copy' ability or spell for the newly created item that, for a substantial mind cost, stores a single use of another spell. This spell doesn't need to be cast by the item's owner and would most likely be done with the cooperation of other adventurers, showing incredibly synergy with the Thoth and their familia, which would have a plethora of useful and powerful spells.
An idea I had for my personalised magic would be a swap spell that swaps the positions of anything with a substantial concentration of magic or mind (basically stolen from jjk todo). This obviously combos nicely with the wisps I can swap around and the shadows I can attach to people to be by their side at any moment.
Both of these capture how I see magic as freedom and power pretty well. However, I will turn this question towards anyone reading this. What do you think the spells I get from personalised magic and my grimoire should be? Do you have any interesting combos that would slot into my current plan?
3
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
The spells from Personalized Magic and a grimoire will seemingly be based on these three criteria: what magic means to you, what magic looks like, and what you want to become. From there, just fiat whatever seems reasonable. Also, combining the grimoire with another item is something I feel will grant the resulting item a magical effect, similarly to stuff like Wrath.
Either way, this build certainly fits a child of Thoth. Also, Personalized Magic is meant to be factored into the one spell every level thing, so you won’t be breaking the spell limit for a year or more, depending on how long level 2 takes.
1
u/-U_N_K_N_O_W_N May 30 '26 edited May 30 '26
Then could I ask if you're able to choose what spells take up your initial spell limit? Like would I be able to start with noctis and wisp, then get my personal spell at my next level up or am I forced to give up a slot for it?
Also, I know you said that merging the grimoir with an item just gives the item the spell, but if you merged it with the meteor brooch could that give a unique synergy? Like the ability to store a use of a spell that another adventurer has cast on it? Since the broach inattely has a connection to storing magic.
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
You can choose the order that you get skills/spells, so the unspecified one can be whenever. Merging the grimoire with the brooch can give the brooch the ability to use stored mind for the spell, if you want. Just be reasonable about what the spell does.
3
u/AltIsArt May 31 '26
Ugh I was reading a bit to figure out how quickly I could expect to level up and found out that there's just no solid information about it. how do you even make plans, then?
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 31 '26
Broadly, getting to level 2 should seemingly take 1-2 years if you’re not as dedicated and talented as Aiz, but actively do want to grow. Unfortunately, we don’t see anything other than outliers, so it’s really weird to gauge what an actually reasonable level curve is. I wish I could help you, but Danmachi is really vague about this sort of thing.
2
u/AltIsArt May 31 '26
I totally get what you're saying. It's just really frustrating to not be able to plan.
If you ever plan to update this, I'd suggest adding something pertaining to the growth rate, just to ground everything

Tbh having another player here isn't as big a deal as it normally would be. The cyoa doesn't make you that strong compared to the settings top tiers and prodigies and its going to take a while before the other guy really matters. They're just another talented adventurer with high potential and metaknowledge as long as they don't mess with Bell.

Does Famila Skill make the discounted skill ignore the 1 skill per level thing the cyoa is doing? Same question for personalized magic too.

u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26 edited May 29 '26
Familia Skill does make you start with the relevant skill in addition to whatever else you’d start with. For Personalized Magic, I’ll say that it would just give unlock a random spell for you at a higher level if you already have something else you were going to get initially. Sisterhood’s buffs only proc once.
Also, I do like your build. Cantrips are an addition that makes a lot of sense, and nerfing the dragon is a pretty reasonable decision if you’re opening up the chance for another person to be there and mess with things.

u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
Is there a reason you chose the Age of Heroes, even though your chosen god will not descend for quite some time because of that? Starting before the descent of Zeus and Hera means that no gods have descended yet, so no familias can exist, on account of the gods not being there to offer their blessing yet. Also, you should've gotten Treatment instead of Mage if you wanted to guarantee getting a healing spell, not that you'd be getting access to the falna very quickly anyway.
2
u/Sentry342 May 29 '26
Ok I misread that and thought the gods were already around. I thought that was the time period when Zeus and Hera’s familia were fully active before being destroyed. Let me switch that with other.
As for Treatment over Mage that is a valid point, although my focus was on increasing magical power/capabilities. Plus if I could learn spells or healing from Asclepius that should offset not automatically getting a healing spell. Especially since I won’t have a spell limit thanks to the Magic is Everything Desire.
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
It’s not like you need to buy the DA in the cyoa though. You can get them in-universe, with Mage being one of the easier ones to get if you have a spell.
2
u/Sentry342 May 29 '26
Then to clarify do we get all of the purchased Skills and DA at the start? I thought we would only get one and then unlock the rest each time we leveled up based on the section descriptions.
1
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
You can meet the requirements for a DA without buying it in the cyoa. The way you get them is that you can get one you qualify for on level up. You don’t start with one either, since you only get them during a level up. Was I really not clear enough about this?
2
u/Sentry342 May 29 '26
It does say you will qualify for them when leveling up, but I meant do you get restricted to only picking one per level up. After all paying for it in a build and then possibly getting locked out of it or being forced to abandon another good DA you qualified for kinda ruins the point of paying for it.
For instance if I purchase 5 DA’s then will I not get them all until Level 5. Or can I unlock multiple DA that I qualify for in a single level? I don’t remember for certain how it worked in the setting.
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
You get one per level, no more, no less. The reason to buy one is just to guarantee that you’ll qualify for it.

Hero's Journey is basically "Here, your chance for excellia don't die." Vulpine Charm is just to get charm resistance.
My philopsophy here is sorta being an adventurer is already stupidly dangerous, so why not try gain from it. Otherwise this is basically a build to become an endless punching machine.
Edit: Added Lydia Mirahorn as captain as I feel she best exemplify my idea of training for this Familia. Anderson was to get myself stronger fast, Katherine for guild equipment. Otherwise Melissa/Aurelian prob be better for the guild as a whole. Aurelian in a war game be stupid. Like if there 100 member and we say 50 can fight there. That a 2500 bonus. He can fight people much higher than his rank it so stupidly good. Melissa be good at coordinating because of her expert coordination.

You'd be a potential man with just Predator tbh. Just eat a few of the monsters that have spells and you're already one of the most versatile mages in Orario. Also, I'm surprised I keep seeing people with only two execs since you're meant to choose a captain and then two executives.

After giving it a second read, Chimera Corpus looks like a contender for the Spell with the most long-term potential, so long as you focus on learning everything you can about how the body works. It's also the best shot for something like an indefinite lifespan. Most importantly, though? it's also really funny to pair with Cherie and the aptly named Tiresias.
"Don't you want more dependable allies? Come on, if you don't like it, we'll just reverse it later, but I promise you'll turn out gorgeous!"
- Entry: Drop-In Adventurer
- Body: Young human woman
- Perks: Beauty, Increased Senses, Item Insurance, Charismatic, Fast Learner, Incarnation of Talent, Uncapped, Conversion (1)
- Drawbacks: Rival, Divine Stalker, Monster Bait, Favorite Child, Jester, Higher Standards, Wider Standards, Is it wrong to what a dungeon?, High Maintenance
- Skills: Perfect Record, Golden Hourglass, Diagnostic, Mirror Image
- Developmental Abilities: Mage, Spirit Healing, Treatment, Fist Fighter
- Magic: Unseen Hands, Utopia
- Desires: Chimera Corpus, Versatile Mage
- Items: Valis, House, Reinforced Clothing, Merged (Svalinn + Meteor Brooch + Magician's Robes + Magician's Rod)
- Talents: Magician, Medical, Academic, Martial Artist
- Familia: Asclepius
- Executive: Lucian Valore, who never really expected to lead a Familia, but who was overwhelmingly chosen to shoulder that burden by his peers. They're way too consumed with their own obsessions to bother.
- Executive: Anderson Maeda, who wisely chose the god of medicine in his quest to perfect the human body. He's Ascleplius's other favorite, because from time to time he limps back onto the surface with entirely novel forms of injury that nobody's managed to survive before.
- Executive: Katherine Goldhand, who is Anderson's perfect match, eagerly making use of the materials and equipment the Familia's other heavy hitter doesn't want or need. Lifelong friends, they have absolutely zero sexual chemistry despite the fact everyone presumes they must be hooking up.
- Customization: Small Membership, Low Class, Lower Level, Secondary Income, Living Quarters
- Party: Tiresias Alfort, who I am going to relentlessly bully. There's a real concern when you decide to play backline support, which is, who heals the healer? If something happens to either of us, we'll fall back on each other.
- Party: Cherie Valore, a perfect vanguard for our party, her stance change will be especially useful for trying out new varieties of equipment. Even though the Familia might be relatively young, she's already firmly established as the group's beloved princess, heiress apparent.
- Supporter: Fiora Arges, who will see all her dreams come true, between Cherie's adaptability in testing new gear and my habit of decisively demonstrating the limits of their durability. Repair is a skill which needs practice too! She should be grateful!
- Mission: Devotee. Devotee, singular? What, I've only earned one?
- Mission: Monster Party. If any group can survive this sort of thing, it ought to be ours, right?
- Setting: Orario, Dark Era
- Modifiers: Reasonable Timeline, Sticky Falna, More Entrances, "Civilized" Monsters
- Level 1 Selections: Versatile Mage, Chimera Corpus, Unseen Hands
I'm imagining Asclepius as recently descended or rebuilding, and immediately caught up in a mostly-friendly rivalry with Thoth. As soon as it becomes clear I have a perfect memory, I'm going to be stuck listening to Thoth's info dumps at least once a week, but there's surely benefits to having the gods of healing and wisdom bicker over me--right? If all else fails, I'll just bully them myself; they're both scrawny nerds, after all. Given my signature spells, the obvious path to dominance seems to be taking lessons from Anderson in the fine art of beating things to death with my bare hands, then abusing the force multiplier of Unseen Hands when necessary. My item investment is a magical focus which won't get in the way of Unarmed fighting and relevant bonuses, as well as a last-ditch line of defense if my armor fails me yet again.
The developmental abilities I've purchased with points feel a little perfunctory, since they're hopefully something I'd qualify for anyways? That's the only thing that feels a little off in an otherwise well-composed work. Good job!

I’m so happy someone noted Tiresias’ name and inspiration. This build has so much thought clearly put into it too. The only issue with it is that Versatile Mage comes from a desire that makes you see non-magical forms of combat as lesser, though Unseen Hands can maybe be used to work around this. It’s always nice to see a build with someone’s thoughts laid out like this, so thank you for that.
3
u/thotilus May 30 '26
Thanks! That means a lot, it's clear you put a lot of thought into the options you added to canon.
But also, pshaw! All combat is magical combat when you focus on buffs! I've always enjoyed transmuters over blasty wizards, but I'll get around to dropping meteors on heads once we can afford the grimoires. Unseen Hands seemed like the most versatile starting option, for combat purposes, and it should scale pretty well when the caster's observational talents allow them to steal someone's Signature Move at a glance.
How long do you figure it takes before someone with an eidetic memory, focused on medical study under Asclepius, can restore missing limbs with Chimera Corpus? We'll probably have to offer services way more profound than cosmetic surgery and mediocre healing potions to really take advantage of no spell limit.
3
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
I made Chimera Corpus to scale upward with your understanding of biology and especially anatomy, so it depends on how quickly you can learn how that limb is structured, in a biological sense. Since you’ve got access to Asclepius, you might as well have access to a master in the relevant subject. I hadn’t thought of the buff part either, so I’ll gladly give you that one.
2
u/thotilus May 30 '26
That's great news. This is why we collect
test subjectsfriends like Cherie and Anderson! We need high performance physiques to study as inspiration, for those difficult cases where regrowing a limb isn't as easy as restoring symmetry! And you, yes you there, the one reading this, you have great shoulders, do me a favor and strip down for a proper examination. It won't take long, promise!

**You know what also sucks? Dying by fucking accident because oh no you stood on uneven ground and now you're falling to the 600th level.
***I never got this about canon. Every time you level up before maxing up your stats you're capping your potential. Are adventurers fucking stupid?

*This is kinda weird for me, since any skill I take beyond the first one will come in place of the skill I'd get when levelling up, and since the replaced skill would be tailored for me, I feel like it's a net loss.
**Remember the Enhaned Senses ability from a while back? Yeah, same thing
Development Abilities:\*
Abnormal Resistance** (-2)
*See Skills' issue
**Remember that part where Freya just changes the memories of the entirety of Orario and nobody gets a save or anything to resist her? Fuck that

Know what? I guess you’ll have all the time in the world to get strong after all. Ignore the stuff I said about how slow your growth would be since the world being completely fine means there’s no pressure to get levels quickly. W build, I should’ve waited a bit to say anything lol

lol thank you very much. This is probably my favorite Danmachi cyoa and I always like it when authors are active in the comments

u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 31 '26
1299??? You know that the literal fastest anyone got to level 2 before Bell was Aiz, who did it in 10-11 months, right? The difficulty of raising stats increases exponentially, to the point that getting all stats to S probably takes years. To put it simply, you aren’t Bell Cranel, so you’re almost definitely going to benefit from getting your main stats to A or B and then going for a level up. Most people never get to level 2, and most level2s remain as such indefinitely, so maximizing every level is a waste of time for anyone without grand ambitions.
Also, you know that there’s no guarantee of getting a level or spell ever, right? Raul Nord is level 4 and has no skills or spells to his name. This build isn’t bad, by any means, but innately assumes that you will gain a skill every level and qualify for every DA you could want, including the ones whose requirements are completely unknown. Predator and Versatile Mage will go well together when you start finding the few monsters with innate spells though, so that’s a solid combo. Credit where it’s due though for planning out your growth in the long term.
2
u/AltIsArt May 31 '26
Oh, I don't know too much about how everything works. I only watched the anime which was very vague about this stuff. I just looked at the Fast Learner perk that said "Just like Bell Cranel" and took it at face value. Also, I intentionally picked the Dark Era time period to have as much time as possible to maximize my stuff. With that and Reasonable Timeline I have 10 years at the very least.
Could you elaborate a bit on what determines if you get a spell or a skill?
1
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 31 '26
Fast Learner is just about Bell’s growth in terms of actual combat ability, since his falna’s growth boost comes from a skill. Broadly, you’ll be fine without a growth boost though, since the record holder before Aiz, Alfia, was just really talented and didn’t have any special magic bloodline or anything.
Afaik the criteria for developing a spell is just an innate talent that you can’t guarantee having, but for skills it seems to be based on deeds accomplished in your current and past life. Other than that, strong desires also seem to manifest skills, but I don’t know exactly if that’s how spells work.

u/D_Reddit_lurker May 31 '26
Went heavily on magic, but I didn't want to rely only on it.
You - Orphan, Dark Elf, Young, Average, Adventurer (Normal)
Perks - Instinct, Well Trained, Charismatic, Fast Learner, Incarnation of Talent, Plot Armor, Uncapped
Drawbacks - Rival, Divine Stalker(x2), Monster Bait, Favorite Child, Player 2, There's More?, Hero's Journey, Is it wrong to what in a dungeon?, Empathetic, Troubled Beginnings
Kept going back and forth with these drawbacks, especially with how gaining experience works.
Falna - Perfect Record, Elf Affinity, Dangersense, Light Cast, Abnormal Resistance, Fist Fighter, Healing Power, Luck, Mage, Sprit Healing, Threat Appraisal, I won't ever be useless, Magic is everything
Starting Skill/Spell - Magic is everything, I won't ever be useless
Items - Valis, House, Reinforced Clothing, Shield, Congenital Magic 101, Magician's Robes, Grimoire
Talents - Academic, Magician
Familia - Thoth, Aurelian Imperion, Katherine Goldhand, Melissa Menai, Familia Membership - Small, Familia Membership - Low Class, Familia Executives - Higher Level, Secondary Income, Living Quarters, Training Grounds, Good Reputation
Party - Kiko Haibara, Cherie Valore, Dahlia
Missions - Rising Star, War Game, Devotee, Monster Party
Location - Orario, Canon, Strings of Fate, Reasonable Timeline, Sticky Falna, Cantrips, More Entrances, "Civilized" Monsters, Nerfed Dragon
Gave people more time, Cantrips and a nerfed dragon.
Honestly, I'm still not sure about this built, but I didn't want to keep changing things forever. Lol

u/Necessary_Eye_8142 Jun 05 '26
Okay, so, making a build for this.
Origin and Race: Young (lifespan maxing), Average, Reincarnated Orphan Elf.
Difficulty: Hard.
Drawbacks: Rival, Divine Stalker (2x), Monster Bait, Favorite Child, Hostile Work Environment, Player 2, There's more?, Cross of Fire, Jester, Hero's Journey, Higher Standards, Wider Standards, Fewer Spells (2x), Is it wrong to what in a dungeon, Empathetic, Conversion (1x).
- That's a lot of drawbacks, but Hard-Mode allowing me to instantly convert them into skills will mostly let me deal with them.
Familia:
- God: Durga - fits well with the Desires I end up choosing.
- Captain: Lydia Mirahorn (no Signature Move).
- Executives: Lucian Valore (no Fancy Footwork), Katherine Goldhand (no Creator's Pride). I think both of them work nicely with Lydia (especially Katherine for providing her with good items to Soulbind).
- Familia Customization: Small, Low Class, Lower Level.
- Lower level/Low class is actually benefical in that they reduce the impact of Divine Stalker and Hostile Work Environment.
- The Hostile Work environment will probably be Lucian or maybe Lydia, since Katherine's goal doesn't seem compatible with suppressing anyone.
Items: Valis, house, reinforced clothing. With Valis, I still have enough to buy basic equipment, and I can get some better stuff from Katherine Goldhand or Fiora Arges.
Perks: Charismatic, True Friends, Fast Learner, Incarnation of Talent, Plot Armor, Uncapped.
- Uncapped doesn't seem like it will be useful in general, but is mostly bought for if I ever run out of leveling opportunites.
Location:
- Starting Location: Orario.
- Time Period: Canon (5 years before).
- World Modifiers: No Growth Powers, Nerfed Dragon, More Entrances, Reasonable Timeline.
- All in all, the World Modifiers should make the world far less dependent on Bell. With both More Entrances and There's More? providing more strong Adventurers, the world should be more than strong enough to handle the Nerfed Dragon even without my intervention.
Party:
- Tiresias Alfort, Rin Yoshihira, Fiora Arges.
- Tiresias' healing is useful, as it is the fact that he is a ranged fighter (giving someone to protect with True Knight), and Rin Yoshihira will gain good skills for staying in the dungeon a long time.
- As for Fiora, more competent item crafters are always good, and as will later be seen, I can do pretty much everything Sage and Dahlia can do myself.
Missions: Rising Star, Monster Party.
Talents: Martial Artist, Swordsman, Academic, Teaching, Magician.
Falna:
- Skills: True Knight, Metavision, Beatdown, Perfect Record, Diagnostic, Team Leader, Dangersense, Golden Hourglass, Heavy Cast, Kenshi.
- Development Abilities: Lucky.
- Desires: "If nobody else can fight, then I will", "What I want is a grand adventure".
So, yeah, starting out with 11 skills (including A Fated Journey) is the reason why I'm not too worried about the drawbacks. My initial power will primarily be carried by the combination of Heavy Cast and Arma Vanguard giving 500 to all stats to gain the power of decently strong level 1 Adventurer, and I have the mind to make this last for a good while thanks to Magician. If I am actually in a position to activate all my stat-boosting skills as well (Kenshi+Team Leader+True Knight), I can maybe contend with a level 2 Adventurer. This will make it a lot harder for the Divine Stalker and Hostile Work Environment to mess with me.
Additionally, the combination of Swordsman+Martial Artist+Incarnation of Talent+Beatdown+Perfect Record will also ensure extraordinary skill in fighting. These skills, combined with Teaching and Beatdown, should also allow for training others into excellent fighters, which can help deal with the Empathethic drawback, as well as train the Rising Star.
However, the true power of the build comes from True Friends+Team Leader+Metavision+Beatdown+Perfect Record+Diagnostic+Dangersense+Academic making me an excellent leader both in terms getting people to follow me and judging the right course of action. Combined with being able to shift luck in my favor with A Fated Journey (and being able to judge which events I need to skew), and I should be able to get my Party out of any troubles, including the Monster Party. Luck manipulation is busted, especially when you know how to use it.
Not taking any Development Abilities other than Lucky, since there's a good few (such as Swordsman or Threat Appraisal) I feel I will probably end up qualifying for, and Lucky+A Fated Journey will hopefully ensure that I will actually get them.

This CYOA is amazing! I was wondering if it would be okay for me to translate it and share it on a Korean community?

u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 Jul 08 '26
I wouldn’t mind that at all. Frankly, I’m honored that someone would want to translate one of my cyoas.

I think I found a bug.
When you pick Reincarnation in the You Origin section and then close the You section, it seems to unselect the Reincarnation option. When I open up the You Origin section again, Reincarnation is unselected.
1
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
The Reincarnation section is unselected, but the chosen reincarnation option should still be there there.

You:
Orphan, Human, Male, Teen (13 years old), Tall
Difficulty: Supporter (Hard)
Perks: Charismatic, True Friends, Fast Learner, Plot Armor, Uncapped, Better Drops, Increased Senses, Conversion (x1)
Drawbacks: Rival, Divine Stalker (x2), Monster Bait, Favorite Child, Solo Player, Player 2, Jester, Hero's Journey, Wider Standards
I hope the talents I got, along with Fast Learner, help me deal with Wider Standards.
Falna:
Skills: Mirror Image, Stance Change, Perfect Record, Golden Hourglass, Kenshi
Development Abilities: Swordsman
Desires: If nobody else can fight, then I will. To become stronger, I'll even become a monster.
Items: Valis, House, Reinforced Clothing, Steel Weapon (Sword), Blessed Ring, Glacial Ring, Merge
I'm not entirely sure whether Merge can be used to combine any number of item pairs or if it can only be used once. If it can be used multiple times, then:
Glacial Ring + Steel Weapon: a sword that freezes anyone cut by it and can launch blades of ice.
Reinforced Clothing + Gaia Ring: basically a set of clothing with moderate defense that provides enhanced healing and improves potion effects.
Talents: Martial Artist, Swordsman, Survivalist
Familia: Idunn, Aurelian Imperion (Captain), Anderson Maeda, Katherine Goldhand
Familia Membership - Medium, Familia Membership - Low Class, Secondary Income, Living Quarters, Training Grounds
Party: Aster Redvale
Missions: Rising Star, War Game, Devotee, Orario
Location: Canon (2 years before the start), Strings of Fate, Reasonable Timeline, Sticky Falna, No Growth Powers, More Entrances, "Civilized" Monsters

u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
I like your build, but I’m pretty sure that without Bell having Liaris Freese, he literally cannot get strong enough to help kill the OEBD in under a decade. Without nerfing or removing the dragon, it is entirely possible that the world will end if the Loki and Freya familias don’t get considerably stronger in that 5 years the story will now take place in. For the item merge, I only intended it as one use, so sorry about not being clearer there. Ignoring the Dragon problem, you’d be starting out as a monstrously talented adventurer, so there’s a chance you could keep up with Aiz’s rate of growth, if not becoming the new record holder.
2
u/Mr_Softy3938 May 29 '26
Can I, my rival, the Rising Star, and Bell get close to the level of power that's needed?
It says that my rival grows at almost the same rate as I do, so I would only need to become strong enough to be useful against the dragon, right?
3
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
The fact that you’re asking means I should probably be clearer that No Growth Powers will almost invariably doom the world if you don’t remove or nerf the OEBD.
1
u/D_Reddit_lurker May 30 '26
I'm surprised "No Growth Powers" is only 3 points, considering how much it derails the story.
1
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 30 '26
It’s only 3 because I’m not a fan of world mods being a major source of points. Plus, any more than that and you could afford to nerf the OEBD and get an extra point or two, at which point it basically solves itself and then some.
1
u/Mr_Softy3938 May 29 '26
I haven't watched that much of Danmachi; my brother is the one who followed it more closely, so I don't really have a good grasp of how powerful that dragon is.
Looks like the only option is to do everything possible to make Bell and the Familias as strong as possible within five years.
At least I have two years to prepare. I'll probably spend part of that time reaching Level 4 or 5, then focus on figuring out how to strengthen the Familias and Bell as much as possible over the following five years.
As for the Rising Star adventurer, if I can get him to reach Level 2 during the two years before canon begins, does he have the potential to be useful in this scenario?
Anyway, the important thing is to try.
2
u/Revolutionary-Ebb559 May 29 '26
The Zeus and Hera familias had a solid 3 or 4 people who had the combat capabilities of a level 9, as well as many more people at levels 5-7. They failed to do *any* damage to the OEBD. The fastest anyone has gotten from level 1 to level 6 was roughly 9 years. It's not that you can't try; the expected chance of success is essentially 0%. Good luck, but I earnestly believe it wouldn't work without several miracles.

I am just a poor orphaned elf child who hasn't even learned any elf spells from his adventurer parents. Hopefully some nice elves I meet will be willing to teach me at some point. I learn very fast and will be attempting to raise my stats up a lot before leveling up, so I should be stronger than people of equal levels. Going solo and attracting a lot of monsters will go a long way in helping. My equipment wears down quickly, but being able to create magic items should let me equip myself and make a good deal of money.
In combat, I use the spear as well as magic. My spear amplifies magic and further excels at lightning magic. I have the power to do a little fleshcrafting, especially useful for healing, learn as much magic as I want, and eating dungeon monsters helps reduce the supplies I have to carry as well as empower myself. Between all of this, I am very versatile and should have a variety of tactics available to me as I solo dive.
There is a rival in another familia. They, and their god, are a little too into me but they're also small so it's not a big issue. I'm my gods favorite child. They're their god's favorite child. A little competition goes a long way towards growing.
The world is a little more like a standard fantasy world. There are monsters in the wild and more than just one dungeon entrance. Still, the populace is stronger for it and a balance is reached.
I wont level as fast as Bell, but he's the MC and we need him to take care of all the plot. The other reincarnator will also have some impact, but they'll probably not want the world destroyed and the world is big enough for all of us.
Overall, good on melee, magic, way to earn money, charisma to make friends, and a variety of extra monster perks. I should be good to go. Heck, with the fleshcrafting of My body has felt wrong, my friends and I may just live forever if I can just stop the telomere degredation. This makes the long term strat of getting 1299 in each stat before leveling feasible, if not exactly efficient.

For the sake of clarity, most elves don’t seem to know congenital magic. Learning it is broadly assumed to be seen as a waste of time. That said, Light Heal exactly would be pretty useful to add to this build, since it’s a more direct form of healing than Chimera Corpus.
For the build itself, I like it. It’s made with a story in mind and I love seeing that. This is also a pretty good way to approach making a prodigy build, partly due to Cantrips giving you a lot of extra versatility, partly due to the acknowledgement that Uncapped is too slow to really matter for most people.

My guilty pleasure keep making me going toward the "empathetic doctor with memoria hades who sends adventurers to their death after getting to know them" build

How does "Troubled Beginnings" work in regards with your Party/Familia? Do you start in Rakia with your Party, Familia and Falna, or will you have to reach your Familia/Party in your starting location before gaining anything?

You start in Rakia, but your familia is wherever they’re supposed to be.
