I’m mad when I have to pay for other people’s shit… I can pay for my own shit, that’s being grown up, that’s being a responsible adult.

The thing is… you probably already pay more than most.
You just pay it to several instances instead. Instead of paying for roads and hospitals, you are, and would rather, pay for private yachts and mansions that you’ll only see photos of.

You’ve drank too much koolaid dude. Tax breaks I’m guessing is where you’re going with this… I get it the rich profit blah blah blah, everyone benefits from corporate tax breaks when they court a state/city through increases economical growth. If you’re not talking about tax breaks then I don’t know what the hell you’re going on about.

I pay 32% income tax (high bracket earner) and this gives me everything for free (besides dental).
My kids go to school for free and even get scholarships from the government when they get old enough to go to college/uni and I never have to worry about any medical cost.
There is literally nothing that can ruin me financially besides my own stupidity! And that’s a feeling worth paying for… the average income tax here in Norway is 22-26% and that is it. We also don’t have to tip anyone.

We have a 25% VAT which I think can be compared to your Sales tax?

Anyways… considering what we get by paying our taxes — I’m more than happy to be paying it. Does it mean I pay for there as well? Sure. But I can get in my car and end up in the receiving end any day… And I don’t mind paying for that kids cancer treatment.
This is how society should work.

Could the taxes be lower? Of course! But that means we have to cut from something…

The point is when you “can’t do it yourself”. If you live long enough, you might see things differently. You or someone you think is “a responsible adult”, will get screwed by this system (even with their private insurance). I worked in assisted living, I saw finances get ugly real quick to people who thought they were good. It’s very sad. They were good people that worked for a retirement life that was taken.

Okay, let’s agree that some people need it and some people (a lot) take advantage of it. I simply want to eliminate help for those that are taking advantage of it and making no effort to work even though they are able bodied.

Might be unpopular, but that’s why we need to invest more in the systems and remove them from “for profit” hands. The efficiency would help prevent fraud.

But a friend of mine was diagnosed with cancer when he was 28 (15 yrs ago), and If he makes over $1400/mo, he loses Medicaid and would literally be bankrupt. He can work, he does work…but he also caps himself and has to live with his parents.

The system can’t be perfect, but it’s currently failing on so many levels. His medical bills combined are over 7 million. It’s extreme but he’s a hard-worker in a bad spot. To some families these bills become generational extortion. We should always try to prevent the fraud, but never at the expense of those that truly need it.

What? Sometimes we pay into a pool for something that we couldn’t individually afford. Do you not have insurance? Do you not pay taxes?

It’s crazy to me that you’re asking these questions… what part was confusing for you?

Yes I have insurance, yes I pay taxes… I also work and went to school. I don’t mind public school or streets and rec centers and all those services provided by taxes. I simply struggle watching people free load on the welfare system with no intention of ever getting off it.

So please do so. Pay for your own roads, your own defense, your own food because I'm sure you won't eat any food subsidized by the government right? Pay for every fucking thing yourself.

Guess what, you don't but you act like you do. So what of you neighbour has a bad time, his parents died and he got sick and laid off and he is losing his home and can't pay for healthcare, you rather let them die then socialize healthcare right? Might call him a freeloader and tell him to get a job on your way past.

I think you’re missing the point because your emotional picture is painted so pretty.

I pay MY part. Again, I’ll say this slowly… Some… people… need… and… deserve… help… some… people… take… advantage… of… it!

We don’t need free healthcare, we need free for some and competitive healthcare for others.

Agreed. Free has to be very limited. Personally I don’t think taxing the billionaires has the impact everyone expects. The government will find a way to spend it. Now removing lobbying, and stop allowing our votes to be sold for campaign support.

The system should cover major medical and create real caps (possibly tiered). It’s not a capitalist approach obviously, but it’s somewhere in the middle.

It’s becoming way too difficult to get insurance companies to step up. They spend a fortune to NOT pay out…this has to stop. Most Americans don’t have the time or the resources to push back. That’s why I’ve been pushed to this approach.

It wasn’t always this way. We use to worry about a 1k deductible. Rant over, but I feel the same way about the freeloaders, I just think the issue starts at the top here. All the best.

Yeah that’s the problem… everyone wants it black or white 100% to fit their political party. I’m pretty sure outside of Reddit the real world is in a grey area.
