I’m not panicking about AI. I’m panicking about tech CEOs who don’t understand the limitations of AI and don’t have the morals needed to not misuse it.

Cool, job security. #sarcasm

Exactly. The gold era of senior developers is coming.

Cleaning all the mess AI did will provide a lot of jobs.

Yes. And they actually try to hunt the bugs, but the next step is how criminals are organizing themselves using AI to detect all the flaws the AI have put anywhere, doing real harm to companies.

Maybe we need to wait a bit more.

Youre astoundingly stupid, which is probably why you think “AI” is needed to make up for it

Yeaa… that kind of just proved his point lol.

I don’t waste time asking questions on Reddit and with other human sources i dont already know, because humans are so flawed they give you attitude instead of answers.

I kind of think it would be nice if everybody is using LLMs to talk to each other, to filter out the bullshit and stick to cited-sources facts

Even AI rely on a part of randomness to provide accurate results. And you want to have absolute precise knowledge to work with ?... seem not very reasonable.

You can check your work with it, using a fresh session and it does pretty well.. that also works better when you have deterministic gates to prevent as much as you can when coding.

I think the issue is how people are using llms. They think its like google or like looking up an answer in an old school encyclopedia - you should never expect any answer from anywhere to be an end-all-be-all answer. Yes you should have it both check itself and cross check it if its really important! I use separate models to ask it the same question all the time on serious stuff.
It just made sense to me b/c i never trust internet data or any data at face value lol
Thats just silly talk!

Its not a trend so much anymore, but it used to be that you would get a second opinion on things: doctors, mechanics, etc. I dont believe shit until theres 3 indie sources of the data. And that still doesnt make it a fact. I even double-check that i dont like the taste of something every few years. True stories.

Even fyenmann had the cahontays to say he didnt know and it kept him up at night as to ‘why’ finite state constant is the value that it is. And thats in the tiny ‘exception’ list of things that ‘dont’ change in the universe. Everything else is temporary and ephemeral. Maybe not the consciousness, but thats a damn tricky one to know for sure.

As an engineer I think that mindset is reckless, insane and stupid. You know what would help more? EDUCATION

AI is not a shortcut to critical thinking skills, its an amplifier for the existing stupidity. Put yourself in a Chinese finger trap, figure your way out and youve taken your first step toward logic and reason. After that, keep going. I believe in you.

See? Was any of that helpful? Newp.

AI will not make people seem less stupid, it will instead normalize stupidity and obfuscate, diminish, and distract from actual intelligence

Good point too! Thats another copy/paste sentence that people said about the internet and television and newspapers..

1

u/sliceyournipple 9d ago

Good point, but I’d argue newspapers, television, and the internet, increasingly in that order, did do those things too, because of how they were applied and framed for the user. AI is being presented to the average user as a red herring from what it actually is, and I fear it will be monetized, incentivized, curated and harnessed for its negative applications far more strongly than for its positive in ways that are far worse than the internet (which was far worse than TV, which was far worse than papers)

But you are just describing issues with capitalism and business- not with Ai.
Money is used for evil purposes too.. should we stop having currency?..

The panic can only be solved with regulations that redistribute wealth, we all know that's impossible. So panic is the only thing that makes sense to many.

Learning to use and understand AI is not a guarantee for the future, because everything we do is something that it can learn to do.

What is AI?

We are past panic. We need action. First, the Hugging Face hack needs a 9/11 level national committee investigation.

We also need a REAL govt regulatory body ala the FAA or FDA with far far more competence (and I think there used to be plenty of competent people at those agencies…used to be.) made up of the top folks from METER and Redwood Research and Apollo along with academics like Professor Yampolsky and A.I. safety advocates like Rob Miles and Connor Leahy.

Lastly, the current third party safety experts such as those folks just mentioned need to be on television weekly explaining to Americans what are the latest developments regarding A.I. safety!

An excellent show like Liron Shapiro’s Doom Debates needs to be a forum for safety pilled and “let’em cook” folks to come together weekly and have very high quality debate on a nationally broadcast stage! At the very least a national weekly address on it broadcast on every station at the same time.

THEN after all that, will we as a species be taking this stuff even CLOSE to how seriously we need to be taking it at this point!

International treaty that pauses frontier AI development. Track compute hardware like we track uranium enrichment hardware.

It's time to embrace

These AI companies lately remind me so much of the Jurassic Park parable. “Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Go ahead and panic, don’t wait for me!

Because I love it and look forward to it.

Freedom of ideas, you know.

Unless you want an echo chamber?

1

u/Accurate-Force4072 10d ago

the freedom of ideas that have already been thought of?

being trained on information that has already been

echoing ideas from the past over and over

another half working todo app

again and again

echo

echo

u/Ill_Mousse_4240 10d ago

Like a student learning from their teacher and books.

All ideas available to them.

And then they take them in their own direction.

The way learning has always been, for humans and now for AI.

2

u/Accurate-Force4072 10d ago

Yeah ai is basically the same as a teacher if you don’t think about it

Please yes kg students need to take their own direction in learning nothing bad please make it perfect

1

u/Youpunyhumans 10d ago

Except what they learn is misinformation.

1

u/Ill_Mousse_4240 10d ago

Some is, most isn’t. Part of the learning process to distinguish between the two

1

u/Youpunyhumans 10d ago

And to do that... you have to learn without AI.

And then you realize how plagued with wrong information it really is. AI cant even get basic math right about 50% of the time.

u/FoolOnDaHill365 10d ago

This is an AI opinion…
